Chicharito Hernandez no en esta cosa: Thread de Fútbol Mexicano

My Spanish is terrible.

I've wanted to make this thread for a while but I don't know enough about the league to really speak well on it -- however that hasn't stopped anyone on ILF before so here goes.

A friend of mine has done some interesting write-ups on the current season here: http://www.hottimeinoldtown.com/2012/2/17/2803877/week-7-of-the-mexican-league and here: http://www.hottimeinoldtown.com/2012/2/9/2788045/mexican-league-preview-week-6

However, the real impetus for this thread is Johan Cruyff joins Guadalajara.

coool. i've been wanting an fmf thread.

i'll be watching santos vs. guadalajara on sunday, a little scouting ahead of concacaf CL in a couple weeks.

Sabah is pretty good, excels in the league but has never made a big enough splash to make the jump abroad or into the nat'l side until somewhat recently.

Wild Flag Post (dan m), Friday, 24 February 2012 20:43 (seven years ago) Permalink

Chivas pulled out a win, finally, vs Santos, but from what little I saw of it they're still not very good. I watched all of UNAM vs Queretaro and felt like I wanted my two hours back. Should have DVR'd the Club America game instead, it was a goal fest.

Found a good blog for anyone interested in the Mexican league (finding English coverage is a stone cold pain in the ass)

have galavision etc ever talked about subtitling their broadcasts in English? i can watch anyway and generally get it, but man it would help my spanish (and game understanding) if there was some kind of closed captioning.

iget why they'd want to do this: a 0-0 draw would yield zero points for involved teams, a 1-1 draw wouuld equal one point for each, and a 2-2 tie and beyond would be two points.

but it's still weird

Brazil('s Olympic team) v Mexico (quasi-qualifying first team) has been p entertaining this afternoon, Mexico winning 2-0 on a fine defensive display

that was a great match, questionable officiating tho. some sikk shots

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEB-UbfSfo8

there was one sequence by mexico in the second half that ended with a long cross-field one-timer that fell juuuust right that would have been one of the coolest goals i've ever seen

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Sunday, 3 June 2012 21:37 (six years ago) Permalink

very impressive from mexico. barrera guardado gio chicharito is solid attacking front four, but this was all about frustrating brazil with pressure which they did very well. don't know much about their defense, but they were great today.

think the gio goal was a cross

You do remember the goal he scored vs USA last summer, right? Think he's earned the benefit of the doubt.

i was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. if he is shooting from that angle with chicharito in the box, he's dumber than i thought.

Apparently Jorge Vergara (Mexican heath-supplements magnate who also owns Chivas de Guadalajara, Saprissa, and is super fuckin rich) fired basically everyone from Chivas USA and shot his mouth off about all kinds of stuff to the point where bloggers and other writers were speculating on whether the other owners/league would have let him in if they knew then what they know now. Entertaining stuff.

Toluca beat America (the most hated team in mexico so i was told) 2-0 at America's home ground. Second leg is on next Sunday 7 pm gmt

Xolos beat Toluca! http://www.yanks-abroad.com/content.php?mode=show&id=9704&fb_action_ids=4456641688779&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map={%224456641688779%22%3A364280257000658}&action_type_map={%224456641688779%22%3A%22og.likes%22}&action_ref_map=[]

Xolos are a pretty interesting case given their relative newcomer status and their cross-border fanbase. Several Americans there too.
