yeah beyond the big 2 plus like CR and Honduras it starts to get a little thin... tho Jamaica seems to be riding a wave of MLS youth to being a bit of a power again

The T&T football federation has formally outlined plans to sue Jack Warner for the recovery of money he's accused of misappropriating. The allegations that he made off with hundreds of thousands of dollars meant to go to Haiti after the earthquake look the most damaging.

excited for tonight. tfc/LA CCL and then the main event...sounders/santos. it's supposed to be 37 degrees but clear. wish it would piss down rain, f w/ santos a little

until yesterday i thought i had to work tonight. and then my schedule magically changed and my ticket won't go to waste

i think la takes tfc. not so sure about the sounders tonight...

toandos, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago) link

everyone's saying this is the biggest game in TFC's history, bet they take down LA since they're playing at the Rogers Center (=shitty, shitty turf)

dan m, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

tfc/la must be pretty open, 2-1 tfc already, 40 minutes in

Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 26 April 2012 02:01 (twelve years ago) link

sucks for santos, their 4th loss in a final since 2010

Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 26 April 2012 02:02 (twelve years ago) link

am kinda curious, as reading stuff this morning about rayados' victory i saw that this competition hsa been won 13/17 times by mexican clubs. i don't really watch the mls but i would have thought the level of its club would be somewhat similar to those of mexican ones. am i completely wrong and mexican clubs are far better? or do the mls teams not really care about this competition?

Jibe, Thursday, 26 April 2012 06:56 (twelve years ago) link

also btw thanks for posting as this reminds me to go check on the rayados

Jibe, Thursday, 26 April 2012 06:57 (twelve years ago) link

Over the past several years the starting 11 for the MLS clubs in the CCL can hang with the Mexican clubs for the most part, but the Mexican clubs are a lot deeper when it comes to quality of players and also have a ton more money to throw around. I mean Monterrey has Suazo and De Nigris who are damn good but also has Luis Perez w/ 80-some caps for Mexico, Walter Ayovi who played for Barca and many times for Ecuador, plus a bunch of other lesser-capped players in support. I think the way the seasons for each league are laid out has a lot to do with it, too. The way it works currently the knock-out rounds start just as MLS is coming into pre-season but the Mexican clubs are in the midst of their tournament.

On the whole though, really, they're just better. :)

Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 26 April 2012 15:08 (twelve years ago) link

In the group stages of this latest tournament an MLS club beat a Mexican side in Mexico for the first time ~ever~, too.

Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 26 April 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago) link

ok thx for the explanations.

I'd still like to go! But convincing them to go see their most hated team vs. the team that just knocked them out (and played like little bitches the whole time, too) is gonna be a hard sell, even if we already got the tickets - it's still about a 3 hour drive each way. And I admit that part of me is relieved that I won't have to go to a US/Mexico game.

Just when I was thinking the referee was being uncharacteristically good for a concacaf final, an arguable last man red card on America is only given as yellow.

dan m, Thursday, 23 April 2015 02:01 (nine years ago) link

Guess if it's arguable it isn't a red but

Congratulations to Curacao on their first Caribbean Cup title. They beat the holders, Jamaica, this morning.

They have strikers called Jimbertson Vapor, Jafar Arias, Rangelo Janga, Felitciano Zschusschen and Elson Hooi, which is a wonderful collection of names.

Does anyone know the best way to get hold of Mexico vs Trinidad tickets for the Azteca? I'd imagine the away allocation is unlikely to sell out but i'm not sure if you can just roll up on the day.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Wednesday, 27 September 2017 07:58 (six years ago) link

I'm resisting making a Jack Warner joke…

Truth is I don't know. Friends of mine have gotten away tix for US games at Aztecs but they knew people who work for the federation. That's my only guess, actually, to get in touch with the Trinidad FA. (And resist making Jack Warner jokes.)
