can I have that in English

Number None, Tuesday, 7 July 2015 20:15 (six years ago) link

I'm trying to find out myself

dan m, Tuesday, 7 July 2015 20:18 (six years ago) link

So I guess if you bet a buck on the USA and they win it all, you get $1.42.

I'm not certain but it wouldn't surprise me at all if these were illegal sports book odds, based on where I heard them.

dan m, Tuesday, 7 July 2015 22:15 (six years ago) link

Someone with a trombone is playing the theme from "Dallas" in the crowd. USA 1:0 Honduras.

dan m, Wednesday, 8 July 2015 02:20 (six years ago) link

USA through, T&T through and likely winning their group, Haiti eliminates Honduras, Canada about to be eliminated. This tournament needs to be held somewhere other than the U$A.

dan m, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 01:03 (six years ago) link

It's fucking sad that Canada's so shitty imo.

dan m, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 05:39 (six years ago) link

Joevin Jones, who is one of the few new Chicago Fire players worth paying attention to, delivered the free kick on the tying goal 4-4 at the death, Trinidad wins their group over Mexico.

USA v Cuba not rly fair

dan m, Saturday, 18 July 2015 22:01 (six years ago) link

man Costa Rica looking rough. Mexico meanwhile can't keep point blank shots on goal down. this is painful - I doubt Panama is scared of either.

both squads seem to be trying to force things with athleticism and settled into predictable patterns in regulation.

if this goes to penalty kicks I think I'll just read a summary. bleh.

lol yeah. stunned that they somehow got by Guatemala.

I'll be at the US vs Reggae Boyz match in ATL. stoked.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 20 July 2015 01:54 (six years ago) link

now I wish I'd put $500 on Jamaica with those original odds, then I coulda gone and taken out the USMNT team's kneecaps and retire.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 20 July 2015 01:56 (six years ago) link

that was a terrible call. you gonna gift Mexico the match for little to no contact....wow.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 20 July 2015 02:22 (six years ago) link

i hope Panama beats the tar out of them

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 20 July 2015 02:26 (six years ago) link

Fuck this tournament

dan m, Monday, 20 July 2015 03:14 (six years ago) link

lol we still on for the dream final then.

Really thought Costa Rica would make much more of a go of it, highest ranked side at the competition and all.

So much respect for the Mexican commentary on Unimas. They are insisting that Mexico doesn't deserve this and should blow the PK on purpose

Geiger is probably the best American ref out there too, or at least was generally agreed to be until this

dan m, Thursday, 23 July 2015 16:15 (six years ago) link

The Nigerians were annoyed with him during the World Cup. But I can't remember if that was with merit or not.

I didn't think the penalty decision was that bad tbh

Number None, Thursday, 23 July 2015 19:13 (six years ago) link

probably boosted by residual anger from the call from the mexico-costa rica game http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/mexico-beat-costa-rica-on-bullshit-penalty-1718949495

i think it was the triple whammy of the soft peno, a suspect red card and the costa rica game

tayto fan (Michael B), Thursday, 23 July 2015 20:51 (six years ago) link

there were three fistfights near me in the stands during the Mexico-Panama match. I left right before the penalty to catch my bus - can't imagine what that was like in the stadium.

They’re like a Great Real Names thread. I’m not sure that Zeus de la Paz or Jimbertson Vapor will make the starting XI, sadly.

They’re pretty decent going forward.

ShariVari, Sunday, 30 June 2019 18:09 (two years ago) link

Looking forward to the match tonight.

Also props to Haiti

Got your butt drank (Neanderthal), Sunday, 30 June 2019 18:10 (two years ago) link

They have a pretty stacked squad for a CONCACAF minnow, lots of players from the Eredivisie.

Dunno if the 2021 edition is worth a new thread.

Curacao has already pulled out bc covid, with Guatemala taking their place, which is total Concacaf.

Mexico had 83% possession and 30 goal attempts against us last night. Absolutely no idea how it ended 0-0.

Suriname (and Guyana and French Guyana) always play in CONCACAF

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 23:52 (two weeks ago) link

Qatar is an invitee to fill out the field iirc, plus also world cup hype

Imo the tournament won't matter much until several things happen:

1. Other nations besides USA and Mexico (and maybe Costa Rica) can regularly challenge for the win. Lately this has sort of happened with Jamaica, Panama, and Haiti reaching the semis, and Canada seem to be on a bit of an ascent lately.

2. Hold it every 4 years instead of every 2.

3. Hold it somewhere other than the US.

The last one seems far-fetched as it's basically a big money grab for the federation based on packing as many Mexico fans into big football stadiums as possible; the others less so but still moving very slowly.

Still, CONCACAF is a beast all its own, and has a magic you won't see anywhere else. That magic is typically comedy and/or violence (on the field) but it's what we have all the same.

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Wednesday, 14 July 2021 00:04 (two weeks ago) link

Qualifying is still a far better show.
