this is quite a massive event seeing as Albion + Town were rivals for 74 years, in the David Peace part of the heavy woollen district comes a new heavy hitter with ambitions of FL status ... The mighty Ossett Utd.

Football is dog dirt.

At least Argyle lost.

you know when L**ds are top of the EFL that the 7 wraths of the football gods are in the post. Just put your mortgage on a MK /Leeds scum league winning twofer.

Notts have given Kevin Nolan the boot, I note. They are supposed to have spent quite a lot over the summer so chances are they’ll get a stabilising figure in but I wouldn’t mind seeing them turn total clown car.

Tim, Sunday, 26 August 2018 11:29 (five years ago) link

Disappointing performance yesterday, BPA better all over the field and worked well as a unit moving up and down together and leaving us no space to play.

More worrying is still the lack of ability to change things up when it's not working - we took off a wide player returning from injury after a knock maybe 30 minutes in while one down. Swapped him for a defensive midfielder, because we only had two of them on the pitch already. After an hour we took off a left back and replaced him with a centre forward which meant we had to drop a DM back to lb and push a striker wide to maintain a 4-4-2. Then took off a centre forward who was playing in the middle and replaced him with a wide player, who played out of position in the middle.

Glenn Tamplin starts as he means to go on, sacking the manager he brought in to replace himself at Billericay during the close season because he lost a match for the first time this season.

10 man Preston 2 up on Leeds at the break. Bielsa out imo

Dara and Jimmy both starting for Exeter.

any club looking at a promotion push or even a relegation scrap needs to get the hell out of that crapabou cup asap, cos a run in it is the kiss of death. Although I'm not sure if this is part of Bielsa's cunning plan!

O’Shea was pretty good; Oates did alright but it was hard to judge how well because we left him exposed for big chunks of the game. He put in a few stinking crosses but showed willing.

It turns out VAR is for seeing whether our players went in with studs up but it is not for checking whether their players do petulant little kicks once the ball has gone.

Tim, Tuesday, 28 August 2018 21:41 (five years ago) link

I see The Heff finally won over the Forest fans last night, put in a towering CB performance and completely bullied Joselu and made him look like a lightweight. He went from zero to hero at Town, with the same initial doubts about him looking like a Sunday league beer monster.

Edin sacks Micheal Collins after 6 games at Bradford. Apparently Micheal was a puppet coach on £30k pa, while the German co-owner Edin who fancies himself as a real footie manger was pulling the strings with Greg Abbott advising him!

there is a very bad doc about these Germans at Bradford City called Matter of Heart that I would so never waste my time watching.

I note tactics Tim Sherwood advocating the formal adoption of L1 / L2 clubs as feeder clubs to the proper real footballing organisations in the prem, on the basis that this is the only way that young English players will get the "game time" they need to improve the England team.

I don't know why no-one's thought of this brilliant idea before.

Tim, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 09:52 (five years ago) link

he's always likes to look at the big picture does this lad, like when he used to manage Spurs from the nosebleeds. He's gone up in a hot air balloon this time, take a holistic view of the English Game!

In other news our miserable run continues, dumped out of the Herefordshire cup by Westfields in the first round.

Torquay apparently sniffing round Beadle. They can have him. I'll pay his train fare.

Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Wednesday, 12 September 2018 17:24 (five years ago) link

Poor old Torquay are in a right old hole - bought by a developer, their fans seem to think the owner is happy to see the club drift away down the leagues.

Tim, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 20:12 (five years ago) link

Watch out, Beadle's about...

to be spending a lot more time at home.

Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Thursday, 13 September 2018 11:23 (five years ago) link

Torquay getting Gary Johnson is a show of intent, I would have thought?

Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Thursday, 13 September 2018 11:23 (five years ago) link

Not sure how I feel about Beadle going, so many problems right now, but first real crisis he's had in three years, so surely worth giving him one chance to turn it around? But probably inevitable that we'd need to change fairly soon anyway, so maybe it's for the best. Just have to stop expecting that fourth consecutive promotion.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 13 September 2018 11:36 (five years ago) link

The above with the proviso that I don't follow the team that closely, especially this year.

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 13 September 2018 11:37 (five years ago) link

For all the results were last year he was found out there to be honest - doggedly sticking to 4-3-3 even if it clearly wasn't working despite having to play 2 or 3 out of position to support it.

It was ok before when results were going our way - although often flattering 80+ minutes of negative grind - but now pretty much all the teams have cottened on to the inflexibility it's not going to work in the long run.

I accept losing to Westfields isn't on the same scale as losing to Peggy or Lads Club but to see a near first choice team overrun by a team of players nearly all let go by Beadle for not being good enough (and he was pretty much right in his assessment to be fair) proved the final straw for his inability to get anything out of the team.

Ryan Green as player/manager for Saturday. Gareth Davies seems to have been appointed as Director of Football, which doesn't feel like an interim measure.

After a dismal 0-0 on Saturday, this happened in the FA Cup replay last night:

1' Truro 1-0 Hereford
6' Hereford miss penalty
7' The phrase 'one of those nights' gets used for the first time
13' Truro 2-0 Hereford
18' Truro hit the bar
20' Hereford miss open goal from 6yds
24' Hereford miss open goal from 8yds
25' The words 'one of those nights start getting used every time anyone comments
30' Truro 3-0 Hereford
31' Hereford fans start talking about going home at half time
42' Truro 3-1 Hereford
60' Truro 3-2 Hereford
85' Truro 3-3 Hereford
113' Truro 3-4 Hereford
