lol

what is the experience of being a coventry fan? it must be something hellish and unending, a purgatorial torment that surpasses anything else in football

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 14:52 (nine years ago)

I can't think of a bigger football club indignity than being reduced to a groundshare with the Cobblers. I really did scream out "The Humanity!" when I read about that. Would rather start again from the bottom wrung with a clean slate than do that.

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 14:58 (nine years ago)

I've never been to Sixfields but it can't be as bad as the old ground

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 15:01 (nine years ago)

the only thing i can think of comparing it to is when those guys watched grown ups 2 every week for a year
every year

nxd, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 15:02 (nine years ago)

xp
It is just a typically soulless nu-stadia in the middle of a retail park. Once during a windy game someone a few rows in front of me got injured by part of the stadium falling on them, nothing serious but the game was called off.

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 15:04 (nine years ago)

I went when they played on the cricket pitch, probably the worst pro "stadium" I've ever visited

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 15:09 (nine years ago)

One of my fave ever seasons was spent going to loads of shit old grounds I'd never been to before. I've never been to Kenilworth Road but love the legend that you have to trespass through someone's garden to get into the away end.

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 15:17 (nine years ago)

That is really amazing. Cheltenham is the one I hate most, though the two old sides of our place are probably the "worst" in the league now. They'll have all the character* knocked out of them soon enough.

I used to enjoy going to weird non-football towns when we were in the conference: days out in Farnborough or Canvey or Grays. Leigh RMI!

*asbestos

Tim, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 16:35 (nine years ago)

I wonder how many of these old stands still have asbestos in their roofs. Was just googling it and apparently Tynecastle Park - before it was re-developed - had a saftey net to "protect" people from dislodged chunks of it when the ball would hit the roof o_O

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 19:56 (nine years ago)

I'm sure I've normally seen asbestos removal professionals doing air tests in space suits - not perforated gear!

THIS IS WOLVESBALL

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 20:30 (nine years ago)

lol!

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 20:34 (nine years ago)

that pic reminds me of a Welsh left-back from 16 years ago who became known as the Transparent Taff for his miraculous diaphanous qualities on the pitch!

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:17 (nine years ago)

just sack everybody ffs

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:39 (nine years ago)

I wonder what Brucie thought of seeing a team that is a lot greater than the sum of it's parts.

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:49 (nine years ago)

do you know you've scored 5 more goals than us all season loooool :/

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 21:54 (nine years ago)

There was a point where we conceded from nearly every set-piece so our goals against column isn't too pretty either. But 2-1 or 1-0 is our default sort of win score. And you probably already know how quality VLP is until the final third - like a few other of our attacking players. but fuck it, i love them all right now!

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:04 (nine years ago)

yeah i'm surprised but sort of pleased VLP has lasted, just goes to show what a difference it makes when a manager knows how to use his players

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:05 (nine years ago)

I'd forgotten what winning felt like :)

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:07 (nine years ago)

nothing like a last minute winner

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:09 (nine years ago)

iirc

barry snappleton (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:09 (nine years ago)

I have sat through some serious defeats to the fucking Irons - 6-2 away and 1-3 at home comes to mind - so congrats LJ. This has got me thinking of when Burnley used the FM computer/or some kind of idiotic moneyball divination to decide that Brian Laws was a top class manager!

calzino, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:32 (nine years ago)

a last minute winner scored by an absolute wasteman while half the team can't look, indeed

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:38 (nine years ago)

my current game has peter crouch the best manager in the world

nxd, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:39 (nine years ago)

haha just checked charlie adam is his assistant

nxd, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:39 (nine years ago)

this is real madrid ftr

nxd, Tuesday, 7 March 2017 22:40 (nine years ago)

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 09:31 (nine years ago)

getting unintentional Dennis Cooper's Frisk vibes from this one.

calzino, Saturday, 11 March 2017 12:21 (nine years ago)

it occurs to me these all look like badges for overpriced microbrews

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 12:28 (nine years ago)

there might be a place for a completely not arsed about overpriced beer in the new era thread!

calzino, Saturday, 11 March 2017 12:56 (nine years ago)

Carling, Strongbow and Jaegerbombs in the new era

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 13:09 (nine years ago)

if you like your jazz and film classy, strikes me you'd want fine beer as well :P

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Saturday, 11 March 2017 13:19 (nine years ago)

i've got nothing against any beer but drinking the horror away on a budget requires something with a little less attitude

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 13:24 (nine years ago)

My budget is more supermarket brand plonk and lager, as much as I'd love to be a full on bon viveur. I am too much of a pisshead to go down the pay more for quality and less quantity route. If I cut out the booze for two nights it feels like a week!

calzino, Saturday, 11 March 2017 13:35 (nine years ago)

lol! thread is turning into AA confessional space! I need to some googling on the Reading manager from the 1930's who was apparently a pisshead + whose insouciant attitude to team affairs was along the lines of *pulls hip flask from pocket and takes swig* "who we playing today then lads?"

calzino, Saturday, 11 March 2017 13:43 (nine years ago)

all fair, all fair

bet there are some wholesale deals on good stuff. worth investigating at any rate

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Saturday, 11 March 2017 13:47 (nine years ago)

Hello, I'm a Fulham fan. In the UK at the moment so I'm going to the Blackburn game in midweek.

I've not really followed the Mighty Cottagers (lol) this season, but from what I've seen our gameplan is based largely around giving Sone Aluko a free role to blaze wide from eight yards as often as possible

Girl with Curious Hair, Saturday, 11 March 2017 13:51 (nine years ago)

would settle for having somebody who blazes anywhere tbh

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 14:29 (nine years ago)

a rare VLP goal that was actually a shot on target, must have been some kind of keeper error! But bless him all the same.

calzino, Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:32 (nine years ago)

we are literally scrapping it out against a team that are already relegated. be nice to check in on League 1 again.

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:33 (nine years ago)

no, wait, we've got a pen

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:34 (nine years ago)

Costa, already a broken man at 22, misses from the spot to keep his summer transfer hopes alive

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:36 (nine years ago)

Noodle Vague contemplates toddling off to the pub to watch the FA Cup but can't bear the thought of all those African lads sat in the back crying

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:37 (nine years ago)

ohmygod Marshall and Wiemann combine to score a goal, maybe this Lambert fella is onto something nah only joking Lambert Out

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:48 (nine years ago)

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:50 (nine years ago)

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:52 (nine years ago)

this thread = four yorkshiremen sketch, except our actual yorkshireman is supporting the best team in europe

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:54 (nine years ago)

it's about this time of the season my thoughts turn to enjoying Hull FC blaze up the Superleague, with the added convenience that i can turn back to the new football season just as they choke and blow it

snappy baritone (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:56 (nine years ago)

county cricket's available

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Saturday, 11 March 2017 15:57 (nine years ago)
