best beloved bearded mercurial Hellenic "striker" georgios samaras is moving to the nasl - the second tier of north american "soccer" - specifically an expansion team called Rayo OKC, owned by the owner of Rayo Vallecano

I didn't realise how hard he tried for us until I watched the shower of meh fucks we have now.

been getting progressively estranged from the actual active following of celtic - i.e. bothering to watch the games or at least the highlights - for a while now. i check all the scores, read all the match reports, am on KDS every day etc. but with the time difference im dealing with im not ruining my early mornings on the weekend for the deila bus

the one game I was able to attend this year we did win 6-0 tho #talisman

uncle tenderlegdrop (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 12 March 2016 00:07 (eight years ago) link

I'm getting to a point where I'm not even arsed if I miss the highlights.

onimo, Saturday, 12 March 2016 00:08 (eight years ago) link

the inevitability of the promotion of rangers and the return next season to the eternal "old firm" soap opera really leaves me with a feeling of bored dread.

i mean - ignoring for now the fact that celtic have contrived through consistent downsizing to create a title race with aberdeen this season - a celtic dominated spfl for perpetuity frankly isn't that exciting either, but a few years away from the regular glasgow derbies has let me reflect on how i really don't need that kind of animosity in my life.

uncle tenderlegdrop (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 12 March 2016 00:16 (eight years ago) link

It's hard to admit but the most interesting thing in Scottish football for ten years is Rangers running out of other people's money.

You and me both, and I don't even have the time difference excuse.

... actually you and me both and thousands of others tbh

astonishes me whenever i return to scotland and find that people still care about this stuff

I'm meeting my mum for lunch today. Long gone are the days when I'd have insisted on a pub with a telly or rearranged for another day.

tbf to, errrrrrr, me, one of my problems is I used to know a whole lot of Celtic fans in London, but now I don't know a single one (where have you hidden them?)

I am watching Thistle v Celtic. It's brutal.

onimo, Saturday, 12 March 2016 13:04 (eight years ago) link

I saw the last 20 minutes. That was tremendously brutal.

I'm totally assuming full Highlander bragging rights for cup wins over the last twelve months, even though I really hate Caley Thistle so much that I was actively supporting Falkirk. So, aye, well done Ross County. You made my old man very happy indeed. Though any more trophy wins and they might take down the photo of my him with the North of Scotland Cup that apparently still lurks within whatever they're calling Victoria Park these days.

Jackson Irvine's hair, though. Seriously. That's not a good look for Easter Ross where even mullets and stonewashed denim are probably looked at with a degree of envy.

"All the emotions, it was blank, all black, the fans were screaming."

Right cheery way to describe a cup winning goal.

two weeks pass...

Griffiths is playing poorly tonight. The net effect on the team is to render it completely unwatchable.

Ronny following that proud Celtic traditional of baffling full back decisions. Currently got Scott Brown at right-back in order to somehow play with two forwards. Well, one forward, plus whatever Colin Kazim-Richards is.

This post from me from August:

anticipating the title-race - and i don't think it's wrong to use that term, aberdeen spent most of last season within striking distance, although they were ultimately comfortably bested - being much less close this year. deila's been around for a wee bit now, and should be able to set-up a team to grind out the results, rack up the points.

Nostradamus am urnae.

trickle-down ergonomics (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 5 April 2016 20:45 (eight years ago) link

That was utter dreck. Scott Brown seems to have gotten worse with the addition of hair. Someone scalp him pronto. Oh, and Deila out, obv

ailsa, Tuesday, 5 April 2016 20:49 (eight years ago) link

sad day when youre delighted that hearts defeat aberdeen and give you some breathing space in the run-in. win the morra and celtic are 8 points ahead, with what, 5 games left? albeit with one against the dons.

trickle-down ergonomics (jim in glasgow), Friday, 8 April 2016 21:43 (eight years ago) link

"win the morra"

Not convinced that will happen.

Hasn't helped. Though while you're at it, can you tell Leigh Griffiths he's pish at penalties?

Actually pretty good stuff for the most part - though I was thinking we'd never score.

feel a bit sorry for ronny being a dead man walking and having to stick around for a perfunctory title celebration

who next?

Lennon is a free agent after leaving English Championship side Bolton Wanderers but is not the only potential candidate.

Roy Keane has been mentioned as a possible replacement, while two other former Celtic players - David Moyes and Malky Mackay - have not distanced themselves from the job in recent weeks.

;_;

Romeo Daltrey (Tom D.), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 11:23 (eight years ago) link

I will run several miles away from Celtic Park if McKay or Keane (or Lennon) get the job. I feel a bit sorry for Ronny - he seems a decent bloke, but the job was clearly very wrong for him, and he for it. Still, not exactly gutted to see him go.

ailsa, Wednesday, 20 April 2016 12:51 (eight years ago) link

The problems at Celtic go much higher than the manager, but he had to go.

I wouldn't let him see the season out - if you can't trust a manager to overcome a poor championship team (and they really were pish - we played badly and still got a draw, hit the woodwork twice and missed the sitter of all sitters) how can you trust him to overcome Hearts and Aberdeen to crawl over the line?

Our senior players are a shower of shit who decided long ago they weren't going to support the manager. Scott Brown in particular is taking the absolute piss.

Didn't know we were well off with Lennon tbh.

punnerist spoon here (onimo), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 15:50 (eight years ago) link

the disillusionment in the fanbase is running wild right now, feel like celtic either need a really promising managerial appointment - which i don't even think is feasible for financial reasons tbh - or a root and branch shake-up of the management - i.e. lawell out.

also i must confess soothsayer powers. my alarm woke me to go down to the CSC on sunday to watch the game, had a feeling that it would be crap and/or celtic would lose and went back to sleep for a few hours.

trickle-down ergonomics (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 16:19 (eight years ago) link

If Deila was to go now, would you trust Collins and Kennedy to limp us over the line? I wouldn't. We just need to brave this out, but they REALLY need to be confirming a replacement right now to give the new chap time to identify players and decide where we're going next.

ailsa, Wednesday, 20 April 2016 16:29 (eight years ago) link

If Deila was to go now, would you trust Collins and Kennedy to limp us over the line?

No, I would sack every one of them. I'd rather have me in charge.

punnerist spoon here (onimo), Wednesday, 20 April 2016 16:35 (eight years ago) link

Can you play left back - no, wait, that's the only position we've actually got someone good in!

ailsa, Wednesday, 20 April 2016 16:44 (eight years ago) link

Going to be a strange old atmosphere when/if the league is won.

sktsh, Monday, 2 May 2016 20:49 (eight years ago) link

So long Arabs, and thanks for all the underwhelming players.

Looks like Hibs are being Hibs again.

Camberwicker Man (onimo), Wednesday, 4 May 2016 23:05 (eight years ago) link

Odd as a Celtic supporter knowing that your club basically destroyed another one and got them relegated. Ho hum, the circle of life, if we have any players that start performing well then someone comes and snaps them up. c'est la vie.

got a wee soft spot for hibs but feel like I wouldn't mind them languishing for a bit.

Is Jack Nicholson really qualify as "Partyman"? (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 4 May 2016 23:21 (eight years ago) link

Hibs!

Camberwicker Man (onimo), Saturday, 7 May 2016 11:56 (eight years ago) link

Hibs have unHibsed themselves. What's the most Hibsy thing they can do in the next 45 minutes?
