KC wins on penos after a fairly good game. Philly trying the Holland/Krul move bringing in the replacement GK at the last moment was gutsy, and he blocked one, but not good enough in the end.

Home finale. About 40k+ people in tow.

I'm sure this city will become ambivalent like we do with all teams here but I ain't seen excitement like this since Shaquille's rookie season here

welp bummer last game against Philly, but damn was that a fun first season for OCSC. can't wait til next - already reupped my season tix, just moved the seat to a better location.

then they announce we have a NWSL team now, the Orlando Pride, and we sign Alex Morgan via a trade. (guess she's happy, her hubby plays for OCSC). Orlando really doubling down on this soccer mania - and then they announced a b-team in Brevard county in the USL.

Central Florida now has three soccer teams. Insane to think of years ago.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Monday, 26 October 2015 22:31 (ten years ago)

worst season in club history, failed coaches, failed players, failed ownership (again)

new gm (president?) for next year, no coach yet (though there are rumors: petke, ramos, friedel (lol) and others), no USL team, no direction, no plan

these obvious points coupled with the rumors I hear from the VP level at the club on down lead me to think the chicago MLS concern won't be relevant for a long time

ooft, hard times.

whitecaps in the postseason and playing at home is great for me, except im broke as hell and probably will be watching on tv, ho hum!

man I miss playoff games

you should be thanking chicago for hiring frank yallop at the end of 2013 instead of him going to vancouver (which was the big rumor at the time)

So seattle won. Means that the whitecaps conference semi final is guaranteed to be against cascadian rivals - portland beat kansas and it'll be kansas, kansas beat portland and it'll be seattle. Pretty happy about that.

Looks like Toronto is making the most of finally making the playoffs. Ugly first half.

Kreis out at NYCFC, suddenly the top choice at all the shitty teams looking for coaches (including mine).

Not a good playoff year for the league's big-money players. NONE of the league's Top 15 highest-paid players still alive in the playoffs.

Not stoked per we, but I'll watch and hope for Cbus to be totally humiliated

is a bit of a shame that the apogee of the soccer season in north america occurs on a sunday afternoon in december ie competing against football, the most popular sport on the continent

Karl Rove Knausgård (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 3 December 2015 17:22 (ten years ago)

Timbers! Seattle must be pissed, but not as pissed as Cbus.

the crew's goalkeeper wasnt "a great advert" for the mls mind you, christ.

fucking portland

reginald lin (alomar lines), Monday, 7 December 2015 04:54 (ten years ago)

Officiating was pretty terrible of course, but I don't think it decided the game any more than the sloppy fuckin' play did. Still entertaining.

And now the fun starts, players could start moving today: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orlando-city-lions/os-mls-free-agency-1207-20151206-story.html

almost time.

they've sold 57k tix to Orlando City's opener tomorrow. stoked....i upgraded my seats

part of me is more excited for the Pride season tho.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 March 2016 17:46 (ten years ago)

57k is seriously impressive. Vancouver is def a "soccer city" to an extent and we made the playoffs last year but the opener will be like 22k in a stadium with a potential capacity of over 50k :/

Nwsl is cool would def attend matches if I lived in a city with a team, maybe they'll expand to canada one day - hoping it endures, feel fairly confident it will.

Cornelius Pardew (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 5 March 2016 20:28 (ten years ago)

New beginnings for the Fire once again tomorrow. They looked good and organized in preseason but the team is very young and not very deep. It'll be 50 and sunny tomorrow in Chicago which is amazing, but if there's a full house it'll likely be due to people coming out to see nycfc.

I like the new coach but the organization still just screams amateur hour.

pratt truss it (dan m), Saturday, 5 March 2016 21:38 (ten years ago)

how is attendance at Fire matches? I attended one like, two years ago (my first ever MLS match) because I was in Lincolnshire on business, and one of the execs from the front office tried to sell me a ticket package the other day (left me a voicemail). that was a bit...weird!

Neanderthal, Sunday, 6 March 2016 15:20 (ten years ago)

(the match was fun - it was against the Whitecaps iirc)

Neanderthal, Sunday, 6 March 2016 15:20 (ten years ago)

"fill the bowl" an unfortunate slogan for Orlando City today

Neanderthal, Sunday, 6 March 2016 16:48 (ten years ago)

going to my first sounders game in a while. new turf, morris, thunder in the forecast. Should be fun

fun final minutes in OC
do chi fans really holler 'puto' at GKs? did i hear that?

portumnes (alomar lines), Sunday, 6 March 2016 21:06 (ten years ago)

Chicago does but it's not just them. even United States fans have started chanting it at USMNT matches. fuckin infuriates me.

Neanderthal, Sunday, 6 March 2016 22:49 (ten years ago)

and yeah bizarre final minute. was a pretty garbage match today with some really bad officiating (what else is new).

Neanderthal, Sunday, 6 March 2016 22:50 (ten years ago)

sounders was one of those: dominated, fair red, fluky loss. the game changed with the weather. <3 ecs singing 'seattle sunshine.'

They're desperate to sell tickets. I have friends who haven't been to games since 08/09 that are still getting calls, despite their repeated efforts to get off the lists, including being aggressively offensive to the people who call. Attendance is all over the place, yesterday was pretty good but probably because of NYCFC stars coming to town. Without that I'd imagine it to be around 14k. There are allegedly 6500 or so season ticket holders, and that number has been dropping.

do chi fans really holler 'puto' at GKs? did i hear that?

#notallfirefans

jk jk, but really, it isn't everyone, or even a majority, but it's a huge problem that the supporters have been trying to solve for a few years. The FO is totally two-faced about it, speaking out about it and threatening sanctions to people who do it, but doing nothing as far as action because they're afraid of putting people off from buying tickets in groups, which they rely upon due to their low numbers I discussed above. And yeah, it's a problem elsewhere too. In my own discussions/arguments/fights about the matter, the single largest retort/excuse I hear about it is it's a "cultural" thing for Mexicans. I love my Mexican-American friends and family, and I hate to hear their culture besmirched that way.
