Once I saw Alcatraz was playing for Everton and Howard was in goal then the result was inevitable. No English teams involved in Euro QF's for the first time in 20 years!

pandemic, Thursday, 19 March 2015 20:01 (eleven years ago)

watching wolfsburg on delay, another assist by kevin de bruyne.

pandemic, Thursday, 19 March 2015 21:22 (eleven years ago)

Bendtner seals it

Napoli, Wolfsburg, Kiev, Zenit, Brugges, Fiorentina, Sevilla, Ajax/Dnipro

pandemic, Thursday, 19 March 2015 21:52 (eleven years ago)

Do Ajax fans always sing that one bob marley song?

Blandford Forum, Thursday, 19 March 2015 22:02 (eleven years ago)

Not singing anymore.

Rainbow DAESH (ShariVari), Thursday, 19 March 2015 22:06 (eleven years ago)

so the russian and ukrainian teams aren't allowed to play each other. hardly a free draw then.

pandemic, Friday, 20 March 2015 12:11 (eleven years ago)

blimey lfc representation here as well!

pandemic, Friday, 20 March 2015 12:12 (eleven years ago)

(xp) good way of increasing the likelihood of a Russian v. Ukrainian final.... in Warsaw too!!!!

Betel-chewing Equipment of East New Guinea (Tom D.), Friday, 20 March 2015 12:15 (eleven years ago)

sevilla - zenit (andre - unai)
dnipro - brugge
kiev - fiorentina
wolfsburg - napoli

looking frwd to that last one.

pandemic, Friday, 20 March 2015 12:15 (eleven years ago)

one month passes...

Sevilla with the perfect away performance so far, early goal and chances on the break.

pandemic, Thursday, 23 April 2015 19:57 (eleven years ago)

Howler from Beto, Rondon taps in. Game on. So awful from the keeper.

pandemic, Thursday, 23 April 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

Beto so shook that Hulk decides to shoot from about 35 yards away on the right touchline, off the bar and in. Outrageous.

pandemic, Thursday, 23 April 2015 20:35 (eleven years ago)

Zenit rampant right now. Hulk blasts away from distance, Beto tips over.

pandemic, Thursday, 23 April 2015 20:39 (eleven years ago)

Sevilla break, Gameiro strikes. 2nd away goal, Zenit need 2 in 5 mins.

pandemic, Thursday, 23 April 2015 20:48 (eleven years ago)

Sevilla through, that was a terrific 2nd half.

pandemic, Thursday, 23 April 2015 20:58 (eleven years ago)

Dnipro
Fiorentina
Napoli
Sevilla

pandemic, Thursday, 23 April 2015 20:59 (eleven years ago)

napoli vs dnipro
sevilla vs fiorentina

hoping for a napoli - sevilla final tbh.

pandemic, Friday, 24 April 2015 10:12 (eleven years ago)

I think that would be the most likely outcome.

Dniepro goal yesterday was pretty sweet.

Yes! Nikola Kalinic!

Petite Lamela (ShariVari), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 18:53 (eleven years ago)

Aug 28, 2008 - It was Croatian football coach Slaven Bilić who dubbed the young striker, Nikola Kalinić, "the future of Croatian Football".

mizzell, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 18:56 (eleven years ago)

kalinic is rightly going to obtain the patronage of a hoy hoy as THE NEXT ZLATAN sometime next season after a backheel thru the legs of kieran gibbs, followed by a £16m january move to juventus and a bidone d'oro

The Pole scores!

Petite Lamela (ShariVari), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:13 (eleven years ago)

krychowiak is very impressive, an epl style destroyer with some technique in addition to brute force

lex merk a tory ya? (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:15 (eleven years ago)

Wonderful free kick.

Petite Lamela (ShariVari), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:29 (eleven years ago)

terrific game this. seville's second so sweet.

pandemic, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:47 (eleven years ago)

itv bros seemed to neglect to mention the quality of the throughball which was even better than the exquisite run and finish

lex merk a tory ya? (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:48 (eleven years ago)

very fond of formerly hyped prospects who do nothing for most of their twenties before a reflorescence in their 30s like reyes and quaresma

lex merk a tory ya? (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:50 (eleven years ago)

been impressed with the variety of seville's corners. btw guardian's interview with emery this morning was a p good read.

pandemic, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:51 (eleven years ago)

shit guardian football liveblog emailers would make a niche thread but

“What started as a great day for humanity has turned into a great afternoon for soccerball here in the USofA,” hollers Art Dubano.

lex merk a tory ya? (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 19:53 (eleven years ago)

nice pass, assured finish

pandemic, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 20:17 (eleven years ago)

blimey dnipro player just keeled over with no other player around him

pandemic, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 20:31 (eleven years ago)

clashed heads a couple of mins earlier, hopefully nothing more serious than concussion

pandemic, Wednesday, 27 May 2015 20:33 (eleven years ago)

good stuff, glad seville won.

two months pass...

Sampdoria made a massive fuss about qualifying for the Europa League this season, having risked disqualification over a betting scandal, and have just managed to lose 4-0 at home to FK Vojvodina in the preliminary round.

I wear my Redditor loathing with pride (ShariVari), Thursday, 30 July 2015 22:56 (ten years ago)

poor old samp (a great-grandfather i never met was a Genoese samp fan so i have some affection for them). i remember very clearly five years ago when they were on the cusp of qualifying for the champions league and threw it away http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/08/25/sampdoria-3-2-werder-bremen-aet-pazzini-puts-sampdoria-in-charge-but-subs-prove-crucial/

Celtic website spinning brilliantly like it's all one big tournament.

Get behind the Bhoys as the European campaign continues

passive aggressive DN (onimo), Thursday, 27 August 2015 23:00 (ten years ago)

ha!

the draw for the groups is 12pm GMT tomorrow. Not sure when the fixtures are announced. I know when the dates will be played, and know that if I'm lucky and Celtic play at home on the match day that falls on Thursday September 17th I will be able to go to two home matches at Celtic Park when I'm home to visit for a fortnight. Ha, fingers-crossed to be able to attend a Europa League Group game, what has become of me...

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 27 August 2015 23:08 (ten years ago)

but, you know, nothing like a Thursday night tie against a team half the punters haven't heard of with the top-tier of the stadium closed is there?

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 27 August 2015 23:10 (ten years ago)

Well I assume all the punters have heard of all the teams, at least. 17th September is an away game though.

I'm out of the country when Fenerbahce come to town.

ailsa, Friday, 28 August 2015 14:31 (ten years ago)

aye im gubbed. no Europa league action for me.

Fenerbahce should be interesting. Hopefully Deila plays Mulgrew at left-back again, he'll have Nani in his pocket no bother.

And Dear Dedryck will have RVP running scared.

you too could be called a 'Star' by the Compliance Unit (jim in glasgow), Friday, 28 August 2015 20:18 (ten years ago)

That's an interpretation for sure. I'm glad I'll be watching it in a bar where beer is a euro. I may not come back home.

ailsa, Saturday, 29 August 2015 08:35 (ten years ago)

two weeks pass...

Some potentially good matches on:

Fiorentina / Basel
Ajax / Celtic
Dortmund / Krasnodar
Anderlecht / Monaco
Dnipro / Lazio
Sporting / Lokomotiv

If Spurs are going to get out of the group i think they have to win tonight but i'm not sure it's going to happen.

I wear my Redditor loathing with pride (ShariVari), Thursday, 17 September 2015 09:28 (ten years ago)

Rodgers' attitude towards the Europa League is infuriating and should actually be grounds for dismissal imo.

pandemic, Thursday, 17 September 2015 14:49 (ten years ago)

Wtf is this formation? 3 at the back again with emre can back on defensive duty.Gomez a cb by trade I believe but generally playing lb so far for lfc now playing in midfield??

pandemic, Thursday, 17 September 2015 17:05 (ten years ago)

Ah actually Gomez one of the 3 CBS and can in midfield that makes more sense. Outrage retracted. Still Rodgers out anyway.

pandemic, Thursday, 17 September 2015 17:06 (ten years ago)

great advert for English football

tbf there was only one English footballer on the pitch

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:22 (seven years ago)

not was is. I hate Chelsea with a passion but Arsenal falling flat on their faces is never not funny.

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:22 (seven years ago)

And he just gave a penalty away

oscar bravo, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:23 (seven years ago)

Blandford Forum, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:35 (seven years ago)

Can't they cancel this final now, it should never have happened in the first place ;-)

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:36 (seven years ago)

Just so fucked off, can't we nationalise this fucking club already.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 29 May 2019 20:56 (seven years ago)
