Liverpool should just keep Suarez imo. Maybe take Sanchez too.

Ok, I can kind of see that IK. But a national transfer like Carroll's and him flopping so hard is just... Damn.

The thing is you'd probably still be saying that even if £15m to West Ham was his only transfer

Other than that, a squad with Neymar, Messi and Suarez? Quality, sure, but maybe at least one captain too many on deck? I foresee trouble.

that does seem like a fair enough price for the bitey one tho? idk at this point I'm just pissed off we didn't get more for Ronaldo when you see vastly inferior players like Bale and Suarez going for similar money
― Number None, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 22:48 (eleven years ago)
Steady on. His buyout's supposed to be £80m, the Echo says Liverpool want £75m for some reason and not necessarily Sanchez as part of it, so presumably £75m it'll be. Dunno who we spend it on though, Aspas can't do it on his own. Wouldn't mind Lukaku.
― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 2 July 2014 22:51 (eleven years ago)
I don't know NN, what was it, £80m? That was a big deal in 2009 iirc. But we're five years and huge inflation on.
― In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 2 July 2014 22:51 (eleven years ago)
theres no clear evidence of the value or terms of any buyout clause; beware biddable local journalists
liverpool can probably get away with fighting this in a way that they couldn't with mascherano, making clear they won't accept a lower fee because of the ban, i hope they do
they know they can afford to keep an alienated suarez for another year and he will still perform for them
rodgers' transfer history is poor, sturridge was supposedly pushed by the rest of their adjunct committee rather than being a pure rodgers target such as sigurdsson
he is now using leverage to spend money in a way that doesn't make a huge amount of sense
there is ample precedent that signing a lot of players at the level of lallana (not athletic, technically good but not special, already 26 -- limited upside) or essentially unproven talent like can (physically powerful, not seen as intelligent enough in possession by bayern hierarchy) in one window can be risky
suarez doesn't guarantee, but certainly gives a good chance they can requalify for the cl
without him, and with perhaps 10 or 15 more games than last season, and serious money invested elsewhere (and now two football managers in manchester), that chance falls significantly

The Croatian was officially unveiled at the Nou Camp yesterday and he said: 'The fact he has had the character and the strength to go in front of everyone and say sorry says a lot about him as a person.
'Not every person has that strength to admit they have done something stupid. I rarely say that I am wrong so this says a lot about him, he has shown the character and strength he has so he should be commended for that.

Cellino is so suspicious of the number 17 that he had the seats at his former club, Cagliari, taken out and replaced with 16B. Now he has instructed the new Leeds head coach, Dave Hockaday, not to select Paddy Kenny after discovering that the goalkeeper’s birthday is on 17 May and concluding that he is bad luck for the Championship club. Kenny, the second-highest earner at Leeds on £10,000 a week, has been left at home while the other players embark on a pre-season trip to Italy and he will not play for the club again.

The Real Madrid keeper posted an image on Instagram where he can be seen beside his son, Martín, with a comment "his first time", referring to the fact that it was the little one's first ever visit to the beach.
A user commented: "Throw him [your son] in the water and see if he floats, you mole". The keeper replied with a barrage of insults: "You have to be a total son of a b*tch to leave that comment. I hope you have the capacity to think about what you wrote for 3 minutes, YOU TW*T!!!"

Dejan Lovren has told Sportske Novosti his head is already at Liverpool despite Southampton rejecting an offer worth 20 million pounds.Croatia defender Lovren, 25, appeared set to be the latest star to depart St Mary's, with Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana already having moved to Anfield while Luke Shaw has joined Manchester United. Their former coach Maricio Pochettino has also departed for Tottenham. However, new Saints boss Ronald Koeman rejected the Reds' bid for Lovren and the player has expressed his frustration at the situation."Liverpool sent the offer and the club haven't informed me," he said. "Not even about the subsequent Liverpool bids. That wasn't right. I found out about the bid from other people which disappointed me and I realised I've got no business staying at Southampton."Liverpool sent a 20 million offer and they (Southampton) paid nine million for me, so they would've earned twice the amount."At this point, I don't know what I'll do and I don't like it. It was unbelievable that a few days ago I had an offer of 20 million pounds. It was in the morning and by the afternoon the club had said I was not for sale. Frankly, my head is already at Liverpool."He said he had addressed a letter to the club to make clear his feelings but no longer knew who was in charge of such decisions."Honestly, I don't know who the main man at the club is anymore," he said. "They are now looking for 25 million pounds, but I don't think they'll get it."He added: "Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Only Real Madrid have as many fans around the world. The last time I played at Anfield, I got chills when I heard 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' I would like to listen to it all the time."Lovren, who arrived from Lyon a year ago, insisted he would not be looking to leave Southampton if the club had aimed higher."Look, I'd gladly stay in Southampton if the club had any ambitions, if they kept the key players," he said. "[If that had happened] not even the Liverpool bid would have dissuaded me."He added: "When I decided to go to Southampton, many people were surprised, but I went because the people at the club had great ambition. They gave me assurances about the project -- the former chairman, Nicola Cortese, and the former coach, Mauricio Pochettino, convinced me. They gave me incredible confidence."When I began training there, I realised they had a very good team. They promised to buy two more players -- they bought Osvaldo and Wanyama. They are great players. The aim was to qualify for Europe, to get into the Europa League at least."He said that midway through the season, when concerns were raised over the direction of the club and Cortese ultimately left, he realised there were problems."No one knew who would take over the club," he said. "Suspicions were raised. I asked Mauricio what was happening and he couldn't say whether or not he would stay on or make promises for the next five or six years about investment in the club, challenging for the Champions League, making new signings or keeping key players."It was because of that I'd agreed to sign for Southampton. When the chairman left, and Pochettino was going too as early as April, I realised things had fallen apart."
