travesty ffs
to think we might have covered his fee by selling Chelsea paulinho too
― dn/ac (darraghmac), Thursday, 12 June 2014 23:23 (twelve years ago)
i personally dont really mind this. the only issue i have is how a team of exciting players like hazard, oscar, cesc etc. is managed by such a fucking curmudgeon as jose who'll have them playing boring shit again next season
― a hoy hoy, Friday, 13 June 2014 08:42 (twelve years ago)

"No regrets, I've enjoyed every moment of it with a smile on my face," he said. "The game's changed a lot. It's different. When I first started it was enjoyment."Now it's a little bit robotic, the social media side of things... it's made it boring."It made it calculated. To sign another three or four years into that... it's not really an option for me. It's gone a little bit sour for me."

Unconnected, of course, to the fact that he couldn't get into the first team at Rostov or Blackburn Rovers any more. Has a player ever fallen off so dramatically? He was overpriced when Spurs bought him but he was still fairly good.
― Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Friday, 13 June 2014 10:06 (twelve years ago)
every other fucker we ever bought?

Alan Irvine has been appointed the new West Bromwich Albion head coach, the club has announced.
He previously managed Preston North End, from November 2007 to December 2009, and Sheffield Wednesday, from January 2010 to February 2011.
Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood had been the favourite for role following Pepe Mel's departure in May.

Sherwood wants better offers for coaches Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand.
Sherwood, 45, has told West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace he will not take the job without the duo onboard.

The interesting thing about Alan Irvine is that he isn't actually Alan Irvine, his real name is James.
He is a qualified insurance broker.
He is 55-years-old.

Sample quote from a 110 page thread on a Baggies message-board "I actually feel physically sick".
― xelab, Sunday, 15 June 2014 11:33 (twelve years ago)
relief of not getting Sherwood
― Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 11:36 (twelve years ago)
Express and Star comments are pretty hilarious
now i have no idea if Irvine is gonna make a job of this but
why do pig-ignorant so-called fans bleat on and on about "big name" managers when what means 96 percent of the time is some hack cunt who's well known cos of all the jobs he's fucked up in the past? how can people spend hundreds a year watching their team home and away and still have the thought process of a fucken beached guppy. i got no beef with Baggies fans normally but fuck em all, every other idiot fucken Roy of the Rovers fan, just try 3 hysteria-less minutes of reflection every once in a while and get your fucken heads out of TV punditland
― Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 11:43 (twelve years ago)
and the usual bleating about "cheap options", if you had more than 5000 fans maybe you'd have a point but why not ask Portsmouth or Leeds fans what they think about the magic power of throwing money at shit
― Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 11:47 (twelve years ago)
i hope Irvine reads all the fan comments then sinks the fuckers on purpose just to confirm their worst suspicions
― Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 11:48 (twelve years ago)
lads we are not making enough of 50m luiz
― dn/ac (darraghmac), Sunday, 15 June 2014 12:45 (twelve years ago)
What's Steve Clarke doing? He wasn't shit as a manager, was he?
― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Sunday, 15 June 2014 12:52 (twelve years ago)
West Brom's problem last year was recruitment, and the manager has nothing to do with that. Chief Exec./DoF since the one dude upped and joined the FA has got away with murder. Anelka? Really? Sell Shane Long in Jan?

Vermaelen to Utd? Signing someone not good enough for Arsenal First 11 not the most inspiring start to the summer for Utd. Then again considering what they have at CB atm.
― pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 06:19 (twelve years ago)
Wenger's call on who is better than sanogo/diaby etc not necessarily law
― dn/ac (darraghmac), Monday, 16 June 2014 06:59 (twelve years ago)
Dunno, I reckon Kos and Mertesacker are the best two CB's at Arsenal.
― pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 07:53 (twelve years ago)
a bit worried about us just losing a bunch of players. i really hope this doesnt come back to being like a couple years ago where we bought like 8 players in the final week of august, of which only merte and arteta turned out decent cos everyone else had been taken already
― a hoy hoy, Monday, 16 June 2014 10:57 (twelve years ago)
Someone please give Sherwood a job. "I know my worth and I just want to wait for the right opportunity. I am sure it will come along.”

Another unexpected appointment, it looks like Leeds Utd are appointing former Forest Green manager Dave Hockaday. He was sacked by Forest Green, but I don't know what kind of budget he was operating under. Obviously all the Leeds fans are up in arms because they are so fucking massive etc. I think most of them assumed Cellino would be going for some big name charlie.
― xelab, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 19:21 (twelve years ago)
so who's the jerome anderson to cellino's venkys here
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 19:38 (twelve years ago)
i mean it'd be p cool to think dude just really threw himself into researching underappreciated academy coaches and non-league tactitians but
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 19:42 (twelve years ago)
needs to give willie mackay a call
― pandemic, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 19:45 (twelve years ago)
xxpI reckon Cellino is such a megalomaniac it will be him. It is looking like they will be a selling club in this window before they start buying. First thing it made me think of was Briatore barking orders at the bench via his lackey in 5 year plan. Cellino has got a nondescript greyman who will do as he says and take the blame if it goes wrong. He might be a bloody good coach but his record doesn't suggest that.
― xelab, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 20:05 (twelve years ago)
sky were reporting they rejected £5m from fulham for mccormack this week
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 20:10 (twelve years ago)
He signed a four year contract extension in 2013 so they aren't under pressure to sell him yet, but he agitated for a move in January and lot of people are starting to think that Cellino isn't as loaded as he acts.
