that reminds me of this

Commentating on the Argentina-Romania match in the 1994 World Cup, Hansen said that "the Argentine defender warrants shooting for a mistake like that". The previous day, Colombian defender Andrés Escobar had been shot dead, a killing widely attributed to punishment for an own goal Escobar scored in Colombia's 2–1 loss to the United States earlier in the same tournament. The BBC issued a public apology for Hansen's poor choice of words.[27]

the other day i was trying to find out what happened to wayne brown, the leicester defender who was swiftly moved on after he voted for the bnp

couldnt find anything past 2011, lower league defenders dont so much retire as drift off the face of the earth

anyway i like that there has to be a disambiguation because two wayne browns (footballer) were born in 1977

same as ben watson (footballer), two of whom two were born in 1986

sadly yet to find two footballers of the same name born in the same month

So what is the job situation now?

I was offered a chance of a year at Plymouth, but I turned it down as I knew the baby would be arriving, and I did not want to put my career ahead of my personal life. You don’t want to miss the early days and months of your daughter’s life so I decided to knock football on the head. I also had so many niggly injuries in my last year at Preston that it helped the decision. I didn’t see eye to eye at Hull with Phil Brown, so when he became the Preston manager it cemented my decision.

So I knocked it on the head to spend some quality time with the family.

Day to day now I am a property manager for my mother in law’s rental firm in Ipswich. We have just over 500 properties on the books and I work is to look after these properties in terms of inspections and tenants and so on.

I must admit I have found it hard. Going from training with 30 lads each day to working with three middle aged women in an office has been tough. It’s been a tough transition but I accept you have to earn a living.

I’m also doing a little bit of coaching so there may be an opportunity to get back involved with the game a little bit next year.

Well good luck with everything Wayne, thanks for your time.

No probs, thanks for inviting me on to your website.

At the start of the 2008–09 season, Myrie-Williams returned to Cheltenham Town, signing on a one-month loan deal on 14 August 2008. On bringing Myrie-Williams back to the club, Cheltenham manager Keith Downing said "Jennison is an exciting young player who will give us some different options. We've perhaps been lacking a bit of pace and he will give us that as well".(41) He made his second debut for the club four days later, scoring with a header in the 80th minute to ensure Cheltenham picked up their first win of the 2008–09 season with a 2–0 win against Swindon Town.(42) Myrie-Williams made five appearances for Cheltenham during his one-month loan spell, scoring one goal.(43) He returned to Bristol City on 15 September 2008.(44) Shortly after returning to his parent club, Myrie-Williams was loaned out to another League One club, this time in the form of Carlisle United.(45) Myrie-Williams stated that the move appealed to him because of manager John Ward, who he had played under at Cheltenham Town — "We have kept in contact since I was at Cheltenham. He's a good manager and I enjoyed playing for him. I heard about a possible move in pre-season which came to nothing but I'm delighted to finally be here".(46) He made his Carlisle debut on 20 September 2008, coming on as a 72nd minute substitute in a 2–0 home defeat to Leeds United, a result that ended Carlisle's 100% home record.(47) His loan spell was extended for another month on 15 October 2008.(48) His final appearance for Carlisle was in the club's FA Cup 1–1 draw with Grays Athletic, a game in which Myrie-Williams was substituted after 59 minutes.(49) He made 10 appearances during his two months at Carlisle.(43) Myrie-Williams was loaned out for a third time during the 2008–09 season, his fifth loan spell in total, when he joined Hereford United in January 2009.(50) He scored his first goal for Hereford on 17 February 2009 in the club's 2–0 home victory against Leeds United, scoring with a low shot to give Hereford the lead just before half-time.(51) He returned to Bristol City after Hereford's 1–0 home loss against Peterborough United on 21 February 2009.(52) A month later, Myrie-Williams rejoined Hereford until the end of the season.(53) Myrie-Williams scored his second goal for Hereford in an away draw with Yeovil Town in April 2009.(54) He made 15 appearances over the period of the two loan spells, scoring twice, as Hereford were relegated back to League Two after finishing bottom of the table.(43)(55)(56)

Sigurdsson talks like he plays – intelligently – although there is one thing that, on the face of it, is not quite in keeping with the 25-year-old’s suave image. On his Wikipedia page, under “Business Interests” it mentions how Sigurdsson is a “prominent member of the Icelandic fishing industry”, having become chairman of a company in his homeland in 2011, and his boats catch lumpfish, cod, wolffish and plaice.

At Swansea it is well known this is total nonsense and, as a result, a subject which is a source of annoyance to Sigurdsson whenever it is mentioned. In which case, why has he not bothered to edit the damn thing? “I’ve got more important things to do!” Sigurdsson says. “I’d rather play golf than go on to Wikipedia!”

No way jel. We've signed Macho and some other geezer as cover for Carlo, since De Goey has gone. I suppose the thinking is that you need 3 senior keepers. They also have two young goalies : Evans, who was on loan at QPR and somewhere else last season, and Pidgeley. Evans has played for England U21, so must be good enough to be one of the senior squad keepers. It's like the situation at Arsenal - Stuart Taylor looks pretty good to me, but he must be soundly pissed off to be pushed down the pecking order by various foreigners. I mean are Shabaan and Warmuz really any better than him.

CFC WILL sign Joe Cole AND Defoe. You read it here first.

Dr. C (Dr. C) wrote this on thread Chelsea on board I Love Everything on 12-Mar-2004

We will beat the Arse good and proper this time - wait and see.

But yes, the goalkeeping situation is insane. And they're all crap apart from Carlo - Ambrosio has played once and was embarrassing, Sullivan has moved with the agility of an out-of-condition tree sloth recently, Macho should never have been signed (Sunderland's 3rd choice last season!) and who knows about the Dutchman?

Next year we need 3 : Carlo, Cech and Pidgeley. Actually Lenny will be good in a year or two, but is prob. not ready for the premiership yet.

We will beat the Arse! You read it here.

With Celtic, he was mainly used as a reserve, but was a respected member of the squad, weighing in with important goals when called upon. He also experienced European football for the first time with Celtic, and even then the continentals found the raw McInally's rough and tumble style hard to counter – indeed, McInally was sent off against Rapid Vienna in the first leg of this soon to be notorious tie, in the European Cup Winners Cup 1984–85.

Described by Sir Frederick Wall, the long-serving Secretary of the Football Association, as "the richest man who ever played football for England", Gosling was the scion of a wealthy Essex family and was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge.[1] The oldest of seven brothers (and one of 14 children), four of whom played cricket for Eton against Harrow, he was, recalled the early sportwriter JAH Catton ("Tityrus"), "the most aristocratic-looking man I ever saw", a view concurred in by his England international colleague C.B. Fry, who described him as "the best-looking man of my acquaintance" and one of the players whose presence in the Corinthians' side contributed to "their reputation up North as a team of toffs".

After his retirement from sport, Cunliffe Gosling served as a Justice of the Peace in his home county, Essex, and in 1902 was appointed as High Sheriff of Essex[2] and a deputy lieutenant of the county.[3] He died in his bed, recorded Catton, leaving a fortune proved at over £700,000 (£21,260,000 at current prices).

This old story is not featured in Andy Payton's quite cursory wiki entry.

Burnley striker Andy Payton was offloaded on loan to Blackpool in disgrace yesterday 72 hours after appearing before Burnley magistrates, who heard that he spent Sunday evening at a pub before writing off his Volkswagen Golf GTi against the side of a house.
Police then broke into his estranged wife's home, after Payton abandoned his car, and went upstairs, where, the court heard, they found Payton, half-naked, hiding in the wardrobe. Payton's defence said he was looking for his children's Christmas presents. He was fined £750, given 80 hours' community punishment and disqualified from driving for three years.

Ideye was a surprise omission from Stephen Keshi's 30-man unit, and the 25-year-old did not hide his disappointment at the situation. He, however, accepted his fate calmly, stating that it is a wake up call for him to improve on his game.

He was a tough, physical player who would probably not suit today's style of non-contact football; he was rated by The Times as the 23rd hardest man in football and a valuable member of midfield.[2]

During his time with Brentford, Hurlock was known to the fans as "Gypo" because of the large gold earring that he wore, and Animal, due to his big curly hair and beard.

Marney is a free-flowing midfielder and has proven to be a key factor in distribution throughout the teams he has played for. He has recently, at his latest club Burnley, developed a reputation of being a 'hard man' of football, picking up 12 yellow cards and 1 red card in the 2012–13 season, higher than all of his Burnley colleagues and the second in the Championship. He is not shy of a challenge but shows good control of his aggression.
