oh, as an alternative employment

who're wigan grooming atm, we'll swap

treeship's assailing (darraghmac), Monday, 17 March 2014 15:18 (twelve years ago)

I entirely agree about TS as poison for any new set-up
I agree he's made himself look worse and undermined himself even for any other jobs
I just worry that he will be kept on in some capacity. The worst thing that could happen.

the pinefox, Monday, 17 March 2014 15:44 (twelve years ago)

we don't disagree so much, so!

treeship's assailing (darraghmac), Monday, 17 March 2014 15:48 (twelve years ago)

I think plenty of people would hire him, his public complaining is just setting the narrative framing his inevitable failure for his future job interviews.

I could see Norwich considering him for example

anonanon, Monday, 17 March 2014 15:50 (twelve years ago)

most worrying thing for me is how sherwood has long been described as very highly rated by levy and spurs as a whole.

mizzell, Monday, 17 March 2014 16:01 (twelve years ago)

Sherwood will undermine whichever manager comes in, he really has to go. I keep picturing him as that greasy guy in the second LOTR film who whispers into that king's ear and makes him all prematurely decrepit.

not saying just saying but in his sunday times interview sol campbell attributed the slurs about his sexuality to disenchanted spurs players, you will be invited to guess which fin de siecle spurs dressing room big dogs he might be referring to

nakhchivan, Monday, 17 March 2014 16:13 (twelve years ago)

interesting, Nakh

mizzell, yes, exactly -- worrying. We can't assume that Levy sees TS the way we see him. I mean, if he did, he wouldn't be in post at all.

the pinefox, Monday, 17 March 2014 16:40 (twelve years ago)

Levy didn't have a great number of appealing alternative options though, before the World Cup at least.

Matt DC, Monday, 17 March 2014 17:04 (twelve years ago)

Sherwood had a good reputation internally because the u21s did very well under his watch, though some have said that success owed more to Chris Ramsey

anonanon, Monday, 17 March 2014 17:12 (twelve years ago)

Is Ramsey the geezer that stands nearby on the touchline looking worried?

the pinefox, Monday, 17 March 2014 17:15 (twelve years ago)

he's one of them, yeah

anonanon, Monday, 17 March 2014 17:18 (twelve years ago)

not using soldado instead of the utterly worthless harry kane when he wasnt going to play soldja boy vs arsenal is almost criminally stupid or craven or nepotistic or whatever

sherwood bears witness to the london fitba mafia pretty well, see rob shep shepherd and neil ashtons encomia, he clearly spends time in the right herts cokehead hostelries, much like joe kinnear who chatted up mile ashley second time round in a gastropub whose name escapes me, fairly safe to imagine that timmy has exchanged knowing glances over tinkling urinal cakes with paul kemmo kemsley and anthony kastrinakis

nakhchivan, Monday, 17 March 2014 17:19 (twelve years ago)

extramarital beeeeejes

imago, Monday, 17 March 2014 17:25 (twelve years ago)

Has he registered for the Pro Licence yet?

Chris, Monday, 17 March 2014 19:14 (twelve years ago)

I heard another TS interview tonight.

He had said some players were up to it and some weren't. He was asked which were world-class.

Rather than declining to be so divisive, he started going on about - who else? - Adebayor. (But not Bentaleb!)

All bad enough so far, but the first punchline is, he praised Adebayor for his "world class ATTITUDE."

After he'd finished talking about Adebayor he couldn't really think of any more, but (second punchline) he added: "and the goalie".

the pinefox, Monday, 17 March 2014 23:56 (twelve years ago)

Ha

treeship's assailing (darraghmac), Tuesday, 18 March 2014 00:03 (twelve years ago)

it's worth watching his press conference (not interview) highlights on youtube to witness how dense and cynical he is, he just mumbles incoherently in an affectless, slightly depersonalized way like an educationally subnormal killer on a police interview tape, then occasionally gets baited by a hack and sort of wakes up briefly to give a sarcastic putdown or sententious platitude like i'm a winner, i've always been a winner

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 18 March 2014 00:36 (twelve years ago)

“They are entitled to have an opinion,” he said. “I have sat up there for the last few games and I get a better view of the game. It’s a learning curve for me because when the team is not going so well they want to see you. But they know me well enough to know I am not shirking any responsibility. I am in it with the team. It’s my responsibility as well as the guys on the pitch. At 2-0 and the game going away and then 3-0, I am going to learn more from my players from sitting up there and having a good look at it, rather than getting involved and maybe getting myself in trouble of the touchline.

“You have seen enough of me ranting and raving, but it’s time for me to start assessing and taking a step back and looking what we need to do for the future, because our performances against teams in the top four and the teams above us have not been good enough, so I learnt a lot there today.”

This quote is a masterpiece, genuinely it is. Only a truly stupid man would set out to defend himself like this.

Matt DC, Monday, 31 March 2014 10:58 (twelve years ago)

Can't even bring myself to dislike him at this point. This is all on Levy for appointing a spiteful clown with zero management experience to oversee one of the most expensive squads in Europe.

Pretty sure AVB will guide Zenit to the Russian league now, just to rub it in.

Yuri Bashment (ShariVari), Monday, 31 March 2014 11:20 (twelve years ago)

"I have to sit here because I am too much of an idiot on the touchlines, I don't really know what's going on if I stand next to the pitch, and there's not much point in me talking to the players anyway because I basically just don't know how to turn things around".

Joe Lewis's patience with Levy can't last much longer, I'd imagine, especially if we find away to bungle the Van Gaal thing.

Matt DC, Monday, 31 March 2014 11:30 (twelve years ago)

Levy owns a lot of the company, though, doesn't he? I always assumed he was an employee but he owns about 30%, i think.

Yuri Bashment (ShariVari), Monday, 31 March 2014 11:41 (twelve years ago)

He's a major shareholder in ENIC, about 30% I think, but he could theoretically be shuffled into a non-exec role with regard to the club itself.

Matt DC, Monday, 31 March 2014 11:56 (twelve years ago)

"sitting up there and having a good look at it, rather than getting involved and maybe getting myself in trouble of the touchline. You have seen enough of me ranting and raving,"

Saying "it is better for me not to be near the touchline because I can't control my temper" isn't really going to get you a gig outside Newcastle.

mizzell, Monday, 31 March 2014 13:22 (twelve years ago)

It seems impossible that they are being taken at all tbh, so the who isnt the hardest bit to swallow.

Still say avb out, just wtf at sherwood in

Tim Sherwood: I need Champions League qualification to keep Spurs job
Sunday 19 Jan 2014 8:23 pm

‘We know there are going to be tougher tests ahead, but it’s been a good start for me,’ Sherwood said. ‘If the season were to end tomorrow I don’t think the chairman [Daniel Levy] would be too happy because we are fifth.

‘The final league position has to meet the expectation of the club otherwise it’s ‘‘goodbye Charlie’’.

‘The club needs to finish in fourth place. Anything other than that will be a disappointment but realistically we should be in amongst it.’

Tim Sherwood says record makes him Spurs' best Premier League manager
Saturday 26 April 2014 00.50 BST

"It was never the brief when I came into the club that we had to finish in fourth place," he said. "What was said to me was: 'Can we make the team a little bit more attractive and score more goals?' and I think I've ticked that box."

Not sure what to think about Pochettino. He's obviously a good technical manager, could potentially sort out the defence and should help get the best out of players like Lamela but it always worries me when managers seem to have difficulty getting clubs out of terrible slumps. That period of four wins in eighteen games towards the end of the season is a concern, as is the end of his time at Espanyol.

Yuri Bashment (ShariVari), Tuesday, 27 May 2014 07:52 (twelve years ago)

I have no faith in any manager, chairman nor player nor act of any god to effect any change at spurs.

the only thing worse than being tweeted about (darraghmac), Tuesday, 27 May 2014 08:18 (twelve years ago)

"In Mauricio I believe we have a Head Coach who, with his high energy, attacking football, will embrace the style of play we associate with our Club. He has a proven ability to develop each player as an individual, whilst building great team spirit and a winning mentality.

“I am delighted that Andre has agreed to become our new Head Coach. He has an outstanding reputation for his technical knowledge of the game and for creating well-organised teams capable of playing football in an attractive and attacking style. Andre shares our long-term ambitions and ethos of developing players and nurturing young talent, and he will be able to do so now at a new world class Training Centre.”

"With his great knowledge of the game and his excellent motivational skills, Harry has inspired his teams to consistently over-perform, whilst his preferred attacking style of playing the game sits comfortably with our Club's history, heritage and the type of entertaining football our fans want and expect to see."

“Juande’s arrival is great news for Tottenham Hotspur. He brings with him a wealth of experience, a proven track record and a winning pedigree. Now is the time for us to regroup and look to deliver the results and performances that everyone associated with the Club wants to see.

“Martin is a highly experienced coach and I am delighted that he has accepted what to me is one of the most prestigious positions in the Premiership. He has a reputation for creating well-organised teams capable of playing attractive football. He is very technically minded with a good knowledge of both English and European football, in addition to first class man management skills.

The announcement of the exciting appointment of current France coach Jacques Santini as our new Head Coach after Euro 2004 has sparked an huge demand for Season Tickets for the new campaign - make sure you don't miss out on the action!

"We have a great squad and we owe them a Head Coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season. "We are in the fortunate position of having within our Club a talented coach in Tim Sherwood. "We believe Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward."

anonanon, Wednesday, 28 May 2014 14:16 (twelve years ago)

Southampton had a small squad that had basically run themselves into the ground by Christmas, I'm not sure it'll be as much of an issue at Spurs, even allowing for lol injury crises.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 28 May 2014 15:57 (twelve years ago)

despite none of them being on the england plane, there are fourteen spurs players past&present going to brazil. that's not far off barca

Lloris, Vertonghen, Dembele, Paulinho, Modric, Chadli, Bentaleb, BAE, Dos Santos, KPB, Palacios, Zokora, Postiga, Pletikosa - right?

The last couple took me ages to get.

looking over our squad, if vertonghen will play lb with a decent attitude that's 1 worthy first team defender. best of the rest are crocked or shakey or both, worst of the rest are awful or dgaf and can't be picked.

cpt navajo (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 15:03 (eleven years ago)

regardles of attitude i don't think jan is a fullback. agree that there are plenty of questions about the rest of em.
supposedly bidding 5M for jamaal lascelles who... has a cool name. don't know anything else.

mizzell, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 16:55 (eleven years ago)

I wish I'd found that website, took me an hour in excel. tho I will as able to add a fairly pithy comment field.

lloris
vertonghen- if no prob at lb
kaboul- replace if possible
chiriches- replace if possible
walker- watch like a fuckin hawk, try to sell for decent cash, replace
Sandro
dembele
eriksen
Lennon
lamela not sure how adaptable he is at LW
Adebayor - flaky as fuck but its not gonna happen for soldado let's face it

flog- Dawson, siggurdson, paulinho, naughton, everyone, sell the club, stadium, buy gold or oil futures, learn peace, fuck hateful football

cpt navajo (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 17:28 (eleven years ago)

With Vertonghen, Walker and Chiriches it's a problem with decision-making, not ability or technique - Poch knows how to organise a defence and should be able to work those problems out, ideally with Vertonghen at CB. Kaboul is finished and should be offloaded as quickly as possible, he's either injured or a disaster area, but I don't think anyone would take him. Dawson I suspect will be gone by the end of the summer.

It appears we're hawking Sandro around which strikes me as madness, if we're going to play the sort of pressing game then he's essential in midfield. I was hoping the World Cup would illuminate something about Paulinho but he appears to be the ultimate water-carrier really.

Stoked to see what Poch will be able to do with Eriksen and Lamela.
