Really great interview, that. He was on Second Captains a while back, all the stuff about Moyes's secret room is really interesting.

Like, his record in the transfer market at Everton wasn't flawless was it? Not that he didn't make some great signings.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Saturday, 5 October 2013 09:27 (ten years ago) link

Nothin like flawless, just that he spent very little on a lot if good players, and tended to keep them around. The dozens he spent nothing on and didnt make it could be moved on no fuss. The few big signings that didnt work could be balanced maybe against the guys he developed. But id not say his transfer record was better than good.

Yeah that's an excellent piece.

Yeah I'd agree with that Darragh. I'm only being harsh on him in the context of trying to rate this system he seems to have.

I think that could be applied to most good to average managers.

Yeah probably fair. Fergie had a pretty great record, high-profile flops and all but so many amazing purchases.

his notable weakness was strikers, plenty wasted on shit like beattie, johnson, beckford, and an inability to prolong the form of yakubu and jelavic

and that was ferguson's notable strength through the years with a very small number of exceptions like new batistuta dong fangzhuo

He currently rotates with Pablo Zabaleta in competition for the right-back berth at the Etihad, but has made just two appearances this season - including a surprise start in the 3-1 loss against Bayern Munich.

Richards is happy competing with the Argentinian, and is paid around £65,000 a week. However, Newcastle could offer a significant financial incentive to move to St. James' Park.

Such a Newcastle player.

Matt DC, Friday, 11 October 2013 14:47 (ten years ago) link

slightly disturbing that ashley/kinnear will offer a significant financial incentive to someone already on £65k and who has hardly played for 18 months

i think it would be best for him if he could be played as a cb though, too cumbersome for fullback

yanga-mbiwa seems to be the rancid marrow in their january window abel and cole clearance box too

Pardew went on: ‘You're talking about a high level (Premier League).

‘We've got fantastic players at our football club and is he better than the ones we've got?

‘I was a bit like ‘hmm, not sure’. I think (Andre Villas-Boas) was a little bit like that as well.

‘But fair play to the lad, he's come into Tottenham's team and done terrific and now he’s made that extra step which is great for England and Spurs in particular.

‘He brings a 'nothing to lose' character to the pitch.

‘He was a massive bonus the other night.’

Turan has now committed to the club until 2017, and has spoken of his personal joy at remaining with Atletico, where he says he feels part of a family at the club.

“I am delighted to have signed a contract extension with Atletico Madrid. I feel like I’m part of a family here,” he said.

However, his agent has hinted that the Premier League is still on the agenda for Turan, whose signing of a new contract has seen his buy-0ut clause with the club rise to over £30m, which may be a ploy simply to make more money out of his sale if top English clubs come calling for the Turkish international again.

“Arsenal and Liverpool? A destination in the Premier League would be to the liking of the player and I can confirm there are clubs interested, like the two mentioned,” his agent said.

two months pass...

“Mario wants to leave Milan in January,” Mino Raiola told The National.

“I don’t know where he will go, but we will look at different options.

“Chelsea is an option, but there have been no real offers and I cannot say anything.”
