If QPR sign Niko Kranjčar and Redknapp remembers to get his Niko Kranjčar card stamped, he qualifies for a free Niko Kranjčar.

Aye, we should keep this for the ILF cognoscenti and let the part-timers have the ILX thread.

so to answer the 'why would chelsea enter negotiations to loan a good player to a direct rival' questions upthread: so they can fuck them off at the last minute leaving arsenal dependent on nicklas bendtner

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 02:23 (twelve years ago)

can imagine fuckboy had a role in that given his loathing of wenger

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 02:24 (twelve years ago)

the ba link is well attested elswhere, nor is disputed that wenger wanted a centre forward since he said in his press conference after tottenham that bendtner was not likely to stay unless they couldn't find someone else to replace him in the squad

given the very late emergence of the lukaku to everton/west brom story it's quite plausible that arsenal would have believed ba was entirely surplus

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 02:28 (twelve years ago)

na na man the 'considering arsenal rivals' bit

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 02:31 (twelve years ago)

yeah deems they have got fewer points over the last two seasons than arsenal, and that's before arsenal bought the greatest player in turkish german history

Mehmet Scholl deserves a mention here

which can be sold for meat if they are boys.. (sorry guys) (imago), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 06:53 (twelve years ago)

Mahmut Aygün oh wait he said player

imagine Brigadoons (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 06:55 (twelve years ago)

In May 2002 and October 2003, he released two successful mixtapes, featuring his favourite bands. The compilation's title "Mehmet Scholl kompiliert – Vor dem Spiel ist nach dem Spiel" is a reference to Sepp Herberger's famous expression "nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spiel" ("after the game is before the game"). In an interview, Scholl said he chose this title because he listens to this music before the game, after the game, in the car on the way to the stadium, and in the car when leaving the stadium. The first volume includes songs by The Beta Band, Sportfreunde Stiller, Jimmy Eat World, and The Notwist (complete tracklist) among others. The second volume includes songs by Oasis, Wir sind Helden, and The Flaming Lips (complete tracklist) to name a few. Once a month, he co-presents the feature Mehmets Schollplatten[11] in the program Nachtmix of the Bayern 2 radio station, which is the culturally oriented channel of the federal public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk.

As a young player, Scholl was quoted with the words "hängt die Grünen, solange es noch Bäume gibt" ("hang the Greens while there still are trees"), seemingly expressing his dislike for the German Green Party. He was widely criticized for this quote because most people did not understand his point which was to point that in near future there might be no trees left, thereby giving his statement an ironic touch. Even though he made further ironic remarks in this interview ("One thing you'd never do?" "I'd never put a blind man at an advertising pillar and tell him that this is the wall he needs to walk down to get home."), some people did not get the jokes. However, he was sued by a Green politician for instigation to murder and eventually he donated 15,000 DM to charity. Afterwards, Scholl was asked by a journalist which party he would vote for, but he answered: "Of course, green, because I cannot let them down", which is a better pun in German ("Grün natürlich, ich kann sie ja nicht hängenlassen"). Perhaps, rendering Scholl into English thus; 'green naturally – I cannot leave them hanging' conveys a little more of his wit.[12]

Yeah, was reading that. Got the feeling he's already too indie-mainstream for ILX, they probably have a shrine to him on WSC or w/e

Number None, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 08:31 (twelve years ago)

tbf it appears to be the first time he's ever been mentioned on ILX, that's a bit harsh

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 10:01 (twelve years ago)

no way! it's definitely been discussed here.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 10:43 (twelve years ago)

weird - I just tried a comprehensive search for him and it made ilx's background turn into tiled union jacks

I got an early mention of Mehmet Mehmet, a Mehmet Aurelio meme, Billy Mehmet showing up like a supernova, and a couple of random mentions of 'Scholl' on footy threads. But no mixtapes, and no incitements to murder.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 10:55 (twelve years ago)

yeah the search doesn't work perfectly but i'm sure we discussed him, nevin, and mendieta as noted indie footballers who aren't total dicks like leighton baines.

scholl was wearing an animal collective t-shirt on some tv show also, i think. which makes him a paedophile as per ilx yesterday.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 10:58 (twelve years ago)

i mean, at the time baines hadn't emerged.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 10:59 (twelve years ago)

Not reading every thread finally pays off. I mean I love the Panda Bear track on the Daft Punk album, I dread to think what that means.

Those searches not my finest, most productive hour tbh; I'm not sinking so low as to hunt misspellings.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 11:08 (twelve years ago)

Didn't realise Mendieta had indie cred, though dimly aware of his nice bloke status.

http://www.complex.com/sports/2013/07/who-is-gedion-zelalem

D@v3 M. (dan m), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 19:38 (twelve years ago)

He's one of yours?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 19:47 (twelve years ago)

With Zelalem’s American ties, curiosity about possible U.S. eligibility is beginning to simmer. He carries a German passport and, from all indications, is not a U.S. citizen. While in high school, he lived here as a permanent resident. His father, a medical technician during his time here, is also a green card holder. It’s unclear whether his mother, also of Ethiopian descent, is a naturalized citizen.

Gedion’s best bet is the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, which clears the way for a foreign-born minor to naturalize as soon as a parent becomes a citizen.

mizzell, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 19:48 (twelve years ago)

he could be (article mentions him possibly applying for a passport) which is all it takes in the era of afro-germaricans to get the national team nerds talking
