Did Everton get James McCarthy as well? Him plus Barry together is still probably a trade-up on Fellaini. Plus obviously Lukaku.

Seems to be a weird sea change among football hacks who claimed for years that having a Director of Football would never work in the Premiership who are now tut tutting at anyone who doesn't.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:01 (twelve years ago)

Yeah they got McCarthy as well, they def seem to have done well out of this window in the end. I'd be really excited about Lukaku as an Everton fan

I'm starting to see Chelsea as something like Avis, running a formula one team on the side

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:15 (twelve years ago)

Utd had all their eggs in the fagrebasket before fellaini's buyout expired.

Coentrao not happening nao?

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:19 (twelve years ago)

if we're on chief execs then i srsly doubt west brom would have lost their marbles like yday if ashworth was still there

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:19 (twelve years ago)

Who is better - Fabregas or Ozil?

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:21 (twelve years ago)

(still surprised utd didn't try and gazump arsenal for ozil)

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:23 (twelve years ago)

i like all the various dark n incoherent cartoon suggestions that chelsea in particular scheme over what other clubs do way more than anyone else

willian and eto'o just to scuttle spurs, ba not allowed to go top 4, lukaku pushed to everton to do more damage there

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:24 (twelve years ago)

Only club still capable of any real mind games obvs

Are Arsenal paying Ozil ridiculous wages or did everyone else just drop the ball and not even consider it a possibility? I mean I'm pretty sure that Spurs would have matched neither his wages nor his ambition but United could have got him, and he'd have made a bigger difference to their team.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:40 (twelve years ago)

200k iirc

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:44 (twelve years ago)

That's what I saw too. Utd seem to be on real budget mode. Spurs and Liverpool couldn't have gone so high, City and Chelsea didn't need to.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:47 (twelve years ago)

Guardian leading with Utd 'farce', says Coentrão deal failed.

Pew. BBC saying Telegraph saying same thing.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:54 (twelve years ago)

eh it's all pr smoke and mirrors cos woodward and moyes ran their mouths about every negotiation, and didnt settle on a few focused targets in the first place. fergie and gill had plenty fruitless /profligate windows in their time

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 09:56 (twelve years ago)

Gill blowing the Ronaldinho deal is the gold standard here.

could list them all day

woodward is not the chairman or the director of football at man utd

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:01 (twelve years ago)

It's not really that bad, but it looks bad because Fellaini is very publicly about 5th choice and could have been bought cheaper earlier as well as not doing much else. This signing could have been spun really positively if they'd gone about it differently

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:08 (twelve years ago)

Given there's no way United could possibly play Carrick, Fellaini and a creative midfielder and still keep TWP in the team, it's not looking good for Shinji fans.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:41 (twelve years ago)

fellaini should have been tidied up at buyout clause, yes- another cm could have been chased then without the desperation aspect.

options from carrick, fallaini, kagawa, anderson, cleverley aren't great but they're a lot better with fellaini filling in either attacking or defensively than they were 24 hours ago.

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:42 (twelve years ago)

Is Shinji all that? In England anyway. I didn't really notice him last season.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:43 (twelve years ago)

They could play him wide I suppose, cue huge amounts of pissing and whining (xpost).

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:44 (twelve years ago)

carrick fellaini
kagawa rooney januzaj
rvp

♫♪ so not gonna happen ♫♪

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:47 (twelve years ago)

De Gea

Jones Vidic Ferdinand Evra

idk Carrick Fellaini idk

Rooney
Van Persie

obv they don't line up in a 442 so imagine twp as a midfielder.

are valencia and young really the wide men there. really?

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:48 (twelve years ago)

i, personally, struggle to imagine the cunt as a footballer obv

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:49 (twelve years ago)

Who is Utd's second-best player? Is it De Gea?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:50 (twelve years ago)

I think he was talking about the Herrera deal but yesterday, on the BBC, I heard Ian Dennis, football correspondent, say, "We are hearing that the deal may well of collapsed." Is this what we pay our licence fee for etc etc.

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:50 (twelve years ago)

i think Fellaini will turn out to be a shade better than expectations but tbh every game Moyes refuses to play Kagawa just makes him a bigger cunt

imagine Brigadoons (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:51 (twelve years ago)

utd's second best player is prob yr pick of the centre halves

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:51 (twelve years ago)

Rafael over Jones surely?

I totally missed Borini to Sunderland yesterday, a move to quicken the pulse of precisely no-one.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 10:54 (twelve years ago)

palace appear to still not be sure if they signed guedioura or not

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:00 (twelve years ago)

mainly cos they've not settled on a spelling you'd think

xxps yeah i picked jones cos he's there atm but i assumed injury right?

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:01 (twelve years ago)

Guedioura is a class act imo. Which is precisely the reason Mick McCarthy sold him in the first place.

imagine Brigadoons (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:03 (twelve years ago)

Wolves rejected several multi-million pound deadline bids from Nottingham Forest at the 11th hour to keep Bakary Sako at Molineux, it emerged today.

In a frenzy of late activity before last night’s 11pm deadline, Forest submitted at least three offers, rising from £1.5m last Thursday, culminating in what is believed to be a final bid of around £3.5m.

All were for straight cash, not involving any other players.

But each time, chairman Steve Morgan, chief executive Jez Moxey and head coach Kenny Jackett held firm. They want to keep Sako in the hope he can help inspire Wolves back to the Championship at the first attempt.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:03 (twelve years ago)

off their rockers quite frankly

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:04 (twelve years ago)

yeah i commented on that on the Express and Star. i'd've snatched their hands off for 3 and a half mill.

imagine Brigadoons (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:04 (twelve years ago)

Sako's dimwittedness is probably not a significant handicap in League 1 but we're paying him Premier League wages.

imagine Brigadoons (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:05 (twelve years ago)

when are we gonna lock this thread down btw?

I think M&M are making a financial calculation based on the inability of League One defenders to cope with Sako.

r|t|c, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 11:10 (twelve years ago)
