he did well at liverpool too.

allegedly Spurs were trying to tempt Utd into an Hernandez + cash deal for Bale. Which is where the mystery second bidder thing came from

Number None, Thursday, 29 August 2013 11:48 (twelve years ago)

Hernandez would just be an upgrade on Defoe and not really a first-teamer, so I'm struggling to see why the player would go for it.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 August 2013 11:50 (twelve years ago)

lol hernandez is more like soldado than defoe

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 11:52 (twelve years ago)

no coincidence valencia tried to get him (optimistically) on loan because he is as good a like for like replacement as there is

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 11:56 (twelve years ago)

what % of his goals does hernandez score from headers like

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:05 (twelve years ago)

has anyone watched chiriches (sv?)

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:13 (twelve years ago)

I've only seen him a couple of times in the Romanian league where the standard of opposition forwards isn't exactly great but he has always looked very comfortable on the ball. His passing is excellent. He has a reputation for being a bit cavalier at times but i didn't notice anything particularly worrying.

Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:20 (twelve years ago)

he's the largest fee received by a romanian club by a fair measure

Chelsea will sign Samuel Eto’o on a stunning £7million one-year deal on Thursday after admitting defeat in their pursuit of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

Eto’o, the 32-year-old Cameroon forward, is taking a huge pay cut from the £17m a year that made him the world’s best paid footballer at Anzhi Makhachkala and will sign on a free transfer.

However, Anzhi are understood to have sweetened the deal by giving Eto’o a multi-million-pound lump sum to get him off their wage bill.

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:48 (twelve years ago)

negotiations mostly involve crossing out sums until eventually he agrees to fuck off

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:49 (twelve years ago)

Is he still good? What precedents for elite players conquering all after a sabbatical?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:51 (twelve years ago)

he'll be glad to move away from working in such a racist environment

RAWK of Agger's (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:51 (twelve years ago)

anelka's career path was odd xp

which can be sold for meat if they are boys.. (sorry guys) (imago), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:52 (twelve years ago)

anzhi actually made a profit offloading bousouffa to lokomotiv moscow

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:53 (twelve years ago)

yes, the rpl today is a much better league than turkey was when anelka played there

difference was eto'o is 32

feel like torres should agitate to leave now

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:55 (twelve years ago)

Be interested to know where Torres' head is at right now. I wonder if he believes he can ever be 'that guy' for one of the top teams again. Media portrayal has sort of made out that he still believes he is the top guy and gets dead wound up when people imply that he isn't, but he's gotta understand what a risk he represents these days for the money

Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:58 (twelve years ago)

i'm thinking a deadline day swoop from Arsenal

Number None, Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:59 (twelve years ago)

fierce competition for that defensive right wing role to be sure

r|t|c, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:00 (twelve years ago)

Eto'o's record for Anzhi is still like one in two. He might be the first established superstar CF to sign for Chelsea and not fuck it up.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)

Eto'o hasn't been playing as an out-and-out striker for a while. He'd be playing in the same sort of position as Rooney, i guess, but Chelsea, in theory, should still have a centre forward ahead of him.

Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)

Immense satisfaction realising the Liverpool probably wouldn't take him back now. Not that I don't still love him, it's more the knowing that we've moved on.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)

Cameroon, ludicrously, wasted him in right midfield at the World Cup

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:04 (twelve years ago)

cba to source it now but iirc earlier in the window mourinho spoke imo fairly perceptively about the sort of role and supply torres required

r|t|c, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:04 (twelve years ago)

He'd be good at Villa imo, but even they aren't pressed enough to be interested.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:05 (twelve years ago)

if he was free it might be worth it.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:09 (twelve years ago)

think eto'o might work out quite well really, he does (or did, pre-russomillions) have that drogbingnagian strength of will that chelsea have been lacking

r|t|c, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:09 (twelve years ago)

tough on lukaku

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:16 (twelve years ago)

Think Lukaku and Eto'o could play well together, not that Mourinho would necessarily be interested.

Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:18 (twelve years ago)

this might be the first time mourinho plays eto'o as a #9 rather than a right winger

lukaku is still too raw to be a first choice player by default, but he will get games

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:20 (twelve years ago)

Flaminiirc

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:40 (twelve years ago)

Is Flamini maybe a terrific signing for the 'nal? Always liked him.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:52 (twelve years ago)

good signing, 40k/w x 3 yrs so lowish risk

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 13:58 (twelve years ago)

Another midfielder though, is he strictly necessary? They've got more central midfielders than they can play already, provided people stay fit.

Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Thursday, 29 August 2013 14:22 (twelve years ago)

diaby, wilshere, rosicky

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 14:24 (twelve years ago)

central midfielder is a bit of a non-definition tbph

he's the screening presence they don't have

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:00 (twelve years ago)

Eh, ok, 2 "central players" and a playmaker/attacking mid type. Diaby, Wilshere, Rosicky, Cazorla, Ramsey, Arteta, should be able to piece together a 2/3 man midfield out of that lot, no? Obviously take the point about Flamini being a different kind of midfielder to those guys though.

Making a mountain out of a molehill obvs, good player on a free transfer to a club rolling in money. But looking at the current Arsenal squad the midfield's the only area that looked pretty serviceable for top-level competition.

idk, this isn't a very good example of it but I feel like lots of the transfer stories I'm seeing atm seems a kinda unnecessary purchase, or at least that the funds could and possibly should be diverted to other areas. but yeah, these guys are the experts etc.

Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:15 (twelve years ago)

Tbh I liked the idea of Wenger pursuing some combo of Diaby / Rosicky / Arteta / Wilshere / Cazorla (sod Ramsey) and I'm just butt-hurt that he quite sensibly feels the need for a little more negativity in that midfield

Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:18 (twelve years ago)

he can play at right back as well, will be useful come Sagna's inevitable injury and Jenks's inevitable Barca move.

Clyde One DJ Diane “Knoxy” Knox-Campbell (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:19 (twelve years ago)

not really.

diaby plays nowhere
wilshere doesn't do anything
rosicky is a link man
ramsey has played well twice but isnt rly defensive
arteta similar to rosicky and ramsey both, not a defensively minded player

i mean you can say that a footballer with the minimum required levels of fitness and strength could fill in and do the donkeywork but rly im not convinced that that's anything more than a patch solution to an issue that many league-chasing teams allocate one if not two specialist players to

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:26 (twelve years ago)

Diaby, Wilshere, Rosicky, Cazorla, Ramsey, Arteta, should be able to piece together a 2/3 man midfield out of that lot

three with 50%> injured rate, one deputizing regularly on lw while aoc recovers from longterm injury

So hot in Herrenvolk (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:26 (twelve years ago)

yeah, aside form that i mean

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:28 (twelve years ago)

"Asshole Lost in Coughdrop": THAT'S a story (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:28 (twelve years ago)

atm we have 14 fit senior players a few days before playing Spurs. the attempts at signing players have been astoundingly incompetent. welp.

My god. Pure ideology. (ey), Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:38 (twelve years ago)
