Seeing rumors pop up about Barca bidding 27m euros for Vertonghen.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 10 August 2013 15:57 (twelve years ago)

at this point they're being linked with just about every ball playing CB of note tbf

anonanon, Saturday, 10 August 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

True.

Been partying so heavily since news got out that PSV managed to sell Marcelo to Hannover '96 today for 2.5m. Seriously, he's not even worth a dime haha.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 10 August 2013 17:14 (twelve years ago)

Marcelo who, btw, said last year he would be good enough for Barca, to make this full circle.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 10 August 2013 17:15 (twelve years ago)

27m euro a bit of a joke bid tbh in the circs. We're short at cb, he made team of the year, we have levy.

The opening exchanges at the Aviva Stadium were uncomfortable for Rodgers but paled in comparison to Ian Ayre's experience en route to Dublin. Liverpool's chief executive, along with Michael Owen, bravely travelled to the Irish capital with the great unwashed on a Ryanair flight from John Lennon Airport on the morning of the game and endured a gruelling interrogation from the rows behind. Aside from the question of how tight Liverpool's finances must be to send their chief executive via Ryanair (though he may have had checked-in luggage, to be fair), it was noticeable how many supporters demanded the sale of Suárez as stewards gamely attempted their safety instructions while Ayre waited desperately to put his ear-phones in.

anonanon, Saturday, 10 August 2013 18:56 (twelve years ago)

Which was the uncomfortable bit, the sledging or making smalltalk with Michael Owen?

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 10 August 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is trying to raise £6million to fuel a swoop for Chilean midfield general Gary Medel, writes the Sunday People.

Martinez wants the Sevilla star to join his Latin quarter at Goodison and will go for him if he can generate the funds.

Sevilla have been open to offers for their best players this summer and Medel would be interested in coming to the Premier League.

The aggressive, but skilful, 25-year-old is exactly the type of player Martinez wants, particularly if Marouane Fellaini leaves and Wigan’s James McCarthy proves too expensive.

Medel is known as ‘The Pitbull’ because of his tackling and defensive ability and is renowned for his man-marking performances against Lionel Messi in recent La Liga battles.

what, you've all got better things to do?

Number None, Sunday, 11 August 2013 13:02 (twelve years ago)

medel is the most significant epl transfer of the season in some respects

The concept of making the Zuiderzee docile (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 11 August 2013 13:08 (twelve years ago)

The season is ten minutes old, and I'm already tempted to mute Clive and Andy.

Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Sunday, 11 August 2013 13:10 (twelve years ago)

like a side who have never been in the epl can spend that much on a player from sevilla

The concept of making the Zuiderzee docile (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 11 August 2013 13:10 (twelve years ago)

and its money better spent than on cornelius/caulker

cardiff are fairly heavily bankrolled tho

a better example of the new landscape would probably be norwich spending 8m a piece on van wolfswinkel and fer

half decent tbh

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 11 August 2013 13:27 (twelve years ago)

Significance is less about Cardiff splashing out imo and more that it's still fairly modest but nobody outside England (or Wales) can afford it - continental clubs are largely shunning the slightly-below-elite market afaict. Michu the most extreme example, but Liverpool picking up Aspas maybe another, also Spurs getting Capoue.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 August 2013 13:34 (twelve years ago)

norwich have been in the epl for two seasons already

and it's not just being bankrolled.....qpr didn't buy anyone as good as him last summer when they already had cash to burn, a season in the epl and epl establishment in team and mgmt

and wages are more significant.....he must be getting at least £40k/w probably more

second tier spanish teams can't compete with that

The concept of making the Zuiderzee docile (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Sunday, 11 August 2013 14:10 (twelve years ago)

nb he isn't all that great but he provides cattermolish aggression with a lil more composure and tactical sense, which is a lot better for a team at that level than buying second/third tier technical players like granero

Yep. He scored in both CL games against Zulte, too. And he got called up for the Belgium squad this week. He's not even eligible to sign a full contract until he is 18. Everyone fearing he'll be gone next year already.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 11 August 2013 14:24 (twelve years ago)

what happened in Belgium to suddenly make them this footballing world power?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 August 2013 18:32 (twelve years ago)

I just read the name 'Joe Cole' and took a good ten seconds to remember who that was.

There'll be an indie band called Dicked By Six ere long

xp pft, wait 'til Fulham visit Southampton this season

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 August 2013 21:27 (twelve years ago)

rather be tried by 12 than dicked by 6, as the old football saying goes

r|t|c, Sunday, 11 August 2013 21:29 (twelve years ago)

Mick McCarthy was dicked by six, dicked by six, dicked by six.

Has a nice clapping nursery rhyme quality to it.

Barca bid £15m for Agger (rejected), just what we need ffs

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 August 2013 22:18 (twelve years ago)

Hold on - that's Luiz, Vertonghen and Agger all within the last week? They all make sense, like, but it's a kind of scattergun approach to business if so.
