Oh, I like that. Poor lad's still stuck in the old ways of holding up scarves and so forth.

Did he not fail a medical at Hull last month?
― Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:03 (twelve years ago)
Any idea what the undisclosed fee was r|t|c?
Celtic were allegedly after him but it seems promising Championship strikers are now out of our league.

i wouldnt have expected us to have the good sense and nous to wangle anything lower than the £4m hull agreed

― r|t|c, Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:15 (twelve years ago)
seriously i'm fairly chuffed honest, everyone likes a kevin phillipsian wheeze
only thing is the midfield is still flat static pony so service and support to him is doubtful
― r|t|c, Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:17 (twelve years ago)
I think it's worth a punt for his scoring record. Whatever issue there is with his knee doesn't seem to have prevented him playing much (40+ games in each of his last two seasons).
We signed John Hartson despite him failing a medical with his knee at Rangers and he never missed a game with it, though he missed loads due to back problems and being a lazy bastard.

Doncaster sign him out of One Direction:

Another Liverpool target goes elsewhere.
― Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:45 (twelve years ago)
Who exactly is left to spend that £85m+ on anyway?
Suspect that Levy has planned this knowing full well that Madrid won't part with Morata/he won't want to go. It's a deliberately self-sabotaging deal.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:50 (twelve years ago)
there's no confirmation of any deal anywhere i can see.
― Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:52 (twelve years ago)
Line from AS earlier was a deal of 104.5m agreed, no talk of players swapped, but yes no official confirmation as yet
― clique- your heels, together (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:55 (twelve years ago)
not sure i really understand why they're insisting on morata in particular
― r|t|c, Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:56 (twelve years ago)
because he's a promising striker but they won't have to pay him very much?
― Number None, Thursday, 1 August 2013 13:58 (twelve years ago)
if spurs end up with
lloriswalker kaboul vert baedembele sandro paulinholamela soldado chadli
plus some cash for the stadium, they should put up a statue of levy and baldini
― mizzell, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:34 (twelve years ago)
Woss wrong with lil aaron
― clique- your heels, together (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:40 (twelve years ago)
doesn't score enough, but i actually think he would still contribute a lot in the new system
― mizzell, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)
how about
lloriswalker kaboul vert baedembele sandro paulinhobale soldado chadli
and we postpone that cash for the stadium until next year
― anonanon, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)
Soldado watches sadly as yet another Bale shot whistles by his head
― Number None, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:45 (twelve years ago)
Would take Lamela in an instant. I'm pretty worried about the threadbare nature of the defence at the moment - with Caulker gone we're down to one fully fit CB and that's Michael Dawson.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)
What odds would I get on Bale, Rooney and Suarez all staying at their respective clubs for next season?
― Matt DC, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:49 (twelve years ago)
a dizzying 7/1 at Labrokes apparently
― Number None, Thursday, 1 August 2013 15:51 (twelve years ago)
that actually includes Fabregas as well
Bale prob wont reach 105m ever again tbh, its such a premium over what he's 'worth' that it's almost 50% 'we've not signed cavani nor neymar nor falcao oh shit' itemised.
― clique- your heels, together (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:02 (twelve years ago)
It's even more ridiculous when Arsenal're bidding for Suarez with 40 plus change
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:09 (twelve years ago)
Suarez has a bit more "wear and tear"
― Number None, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:23 (twelve years ago)
bale is going this summer and it will probably be for cash only

of course as soon as levy buys a striker, this problem arises. sounds like the romanian guy might still happen after steua play the second leg of their CL playoff.
― mizzell, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:25 (twelve years ago)
morata could be loaned but after this sumer's u21 where he proved himself the best spanish #9 prospect since torres in 2002, he isn't likely to be sold, and in the event that he were sold it would be with a buyout clause like carvajal had (€5m sale to bayer last summer, madrid exercised option to buy him back for €7m this summer)
― Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)
what was the last player swap deal that actually happened?
― mizzell, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)
This is what makes me think it's deliberate - there's no chance of Spurs getting Morata permanently and Levy will use that as an excuse to sink the deal.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:35 (twelve years ago)
hes just fucking with them
the figures quoted for bale are so inflated that he will sell
― Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:40 (twelve years ago)
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/statistiken/transferrekorde/transfers.html
if you look at this, and disregard this summer's transfers where the outcome isn't yet known, the only ones from the top dozen or so transfers are those where they were virtually guaranteed to succeed
zidane -- easily the best player in the world and did not depend upon athletic gifts that could disappear at any time (like kaká)cristiano ronaldo -- 24 year old ballon d'or holder, moving to a more familiar country, supreme athlete, an almost unprecedented narcissistic commitment to his own conditioning and improvement buffon -- the best goalkeeping prospect in living memory, 23 yrs old, moving within the same country
as good as bale is, he isn't as good as they were and he has all the risk factors too (dependent on athleticism, moving to unfamiliar country and a much more pressurized environment)
the sums mentioned in all the main uk and spanish papers are so high that levy's decision is almost made for him
― Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:48 (twelve years ago)
the only /successful/ ones
― Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Thursday, 1 August 2013 16:49 (twelve years ago)
The best thing about the fiat currency system is that eventually Caroll'll be inflated the fuck out of these lists.
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:02 (twelve years ago)
I doubt Madrid's real offer will be as high as the sums mentioned in the papers and considering the inflationary effect a sale will have on the price of a potential replacement I am not at all sure Levy will sell this summer
― anonanon, Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:03 (twelve years ago)
Was the last /big/ swap deal Zlatan for Eto'o plus 40m cash? Cos that deal is still crazy
― not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:08 (twelve years ago)

this essentially says 'sorry that's too much money, no deal', right?
― clique- your heels, together (darraghmac), Thursday, 1 August 2013 17:58 (twelve years ago)
the sums are probably true or truish but madrid might want to delay the payments over a number of years, and given that real madrid aren't go to be able to sell land to the the municipal govt for inflated prices any more, levy will be reluctant to accept it
― Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Thursday, 1 August 2013 18:03 (twelve years ago)
I guess I'm assuming Levy buys a Lamela-type replacement if he sells Bale. In which case Madrid throwing more money at us is just throwing more money at Roma/whoever so it's kind of moot
― anonanon, Thursday, 1 August 2013 18:03 (twelve years ago)
