mind you at least they're real, unlike the woman he rescued that time

'This is a little bit strange, not so German' Lewandowski told newspapers in his native Poland. 'We are acting normally, and Borussia’s management is not.'

'I always give it my all. That they keep me is not fair.'

Watching from the sidelines are Bale's former club Southampton, who are in line to pocket 2.5% of any transfer fee.

But that pales in comparison to the 15% sell-on they are believed to have agreed at the time of his 2007 move to White Hart Lane.

Southampton waived that clause at a time when they were in financial difficulty, instead receiving around £1.5m and goalkeeper Tommy Forecast, and now stand to earn just £2m as opposed to £13m if Real sign Bale.

mizzell, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 18:01 (twelve years ago)

they waived it in late 2010 when bale was already being valued by levy at over £40m

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 18:02 (twelve years ago)

this is probably a strategy from epl sides when buying from the champo or below, or from badly run clubs abroad......lower the upfront fee in return for conditional or delayed payments in the knowldedge that they are likely to accept a smaller lump sum when they get into financial difficulties a few months later

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 18:05 (twelve years ago)

Of all the dumb moves we made over the past decade, the Forecast deal still seems like the dumbest by some distance.

Big Tommy Forecast. He is tall, and on a positive note let's assume he will grow into the role after first-day nerves. Shall we help those scrabbling hicks, or is that scribbling hacks, at the GET with those handy synonyms: foresee, foretell, forewarn, prognosticate, guess... how apposite. He spent half the game licking his lips and sipping water like a nervous laboratory rat hyped up on a diet of salt 'n' shake crisps and Fanta. He came, he stayed, he flapped, he flipped, he caught, he was overwrought and spread happiness among the travelling Creweites. His first contribution was to let a cross squish through his hands and he didn't make a save of any sort until way, way into the second half, when a shot hit his legs. He was noticeably less woeful when stood in front of the away supporters.

I really should start reading Cod Almighty again.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 20:20 (twelve years ago)

Tommy Forecast. Tommy. Forecast... I just... I mean it's so unlikely.

I always feel that way about Steve Heighway

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 21:46 (twelve years ago)

Really? I've never had a problem with that, in fact I always thought it apt as he flew down his personal highway, the left wing.

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 31 July 2013 21:55 (twelve years ago)

tv show abt swansea on bbc1 now

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 22:09 (twelve years ago)

Nice one, I put bbc1 on to watch that but had to turn off when there was 'a question of sport' special on and would've forgotten.

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid and they will tell the Spanish club that the prospect of a deal would increase if the striker Alvaro Morata were included as a makeweight.
...
They have put forward the left-back Fábio Coentrão and the winger Angel di María, whose values they have variously factored into the potential package, but Tottenham maintain that the deal will be on their terms, meaning that they choose any makeweights and the one that they want is Morata.

Is any of this actually real? I haven't even seen a bid confirmed yet, I don't think.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 22:21 (twelve years ago)

The same story has just been rewritten in a slightly different way every day for the last week, although the Morata bit is new.

Something weird going down around the Soldado transfer, Valencia reportedly have an issue with the agent.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 22:47 (twelve years ago)

Nah sounds like the agent issue has been wrapped up now too, and he's been left off Valencia's official squad for their US tour

Everton 1-1 Juventus goes to penalties. A fan ran onto the field and took a PK that Howard saved. Asamaoah hit his better after the chuckles

@SpursOfficial
We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Valencia for the transfer of Roberto Soldado subject to medical. #THFC

Number None, Thursday, 1 August 2013 09:37 (twelve years ago)

seems pricey but i guess it's ok this summer

do kinda wonder where spurs might be if they'd been similarly willing to splash out on previous occasions

r|t|c, Thursday, 1 August 2013 10:18 (twelve years ago)

Levy doesn't seem to place any value on acting quickly. See also the various stadium sagas (not sure the new one is even yet off the drawing board?). Sensible enough from a business pov I guess, not sure how great from pov of a supporter. Maybe not so bad - it's tolerable if more slapdash at Liverpool, you get kind of used to a narrow band of possible outcomes.

Any idea what the undisclosed fee was r|t|c?

Celtic were allegedly after him but it seems promising Championship strikers are now out of our league.
