"Negredo's fallen through, time to sign Jimmy Bullard"
― what makes a man start polls? (Noodle Vague), Monday, 22 July 2013 12:36 (twelve years ago)
negredo link is true but he wasn't really 'at' madrid, they just exercised their buy-back clause while he was at almeria and sold him on to sevilla

oh i'm sure it's all true, i just liked him piping up to say so cos that's where we were at at hull city
― r|t|c, Monday, 22 July 2013 12:40 (twelve years ago)
cavani signing is delusional, they might have offered £2.5m for him but in 2009 he had already scored 14 serie a goals the previous season so they might as well have offered paul mcshane
― Selena Gomez is very Neotenous for Caucasoids (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Monday, 22 July 2013 12:42 (twelve years ago)
one might indeed suppose he's issued a come and get me plea to joe kinnear there

Hiddink out at Anzhi.

Is Kernow Cornwall?
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 July 2013 14:39 (twelve years ago)
Yes.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 22 July 2013 14:39 (twelve years ago)
Hiddink to Barca then?
― Number None, Monday, 22 July 2013 15:14 (twelve years ago)
^^ It's the craziest "rumor" that everyone is suddenly saying. Hiddink would tear up the tiki taka football. But maybe they would want that since it's glory days are over? I find it highly unlikely.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 22 July 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)
Gerardo 'Tata' Martino new manager of Barca
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 22 July 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)
Standard reporting that Liverpool are closing in on Soldado, I wasn't aware that was in the offing. How good is he?
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 22 July 2013 17:30 (twelve years ago)
Hiddinck has been surprisingly poor at Anzhi. May have jumped before he was pushed.
― Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Monday, 22 July 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)
though he was the one doing the pushing?
― Number None, Monday, 22 July 2013 17:56 (twelve years ago)
Two games into the new season, one draw, one loss. Not great but to leave after two games? I do think he left on his own accord, with Meulensteen ready to take over. I think he's just seen enough there tbf.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 22 July 2013 18:06 (twelve years ago)
Anzhi were nowhere near Zenit or CSKA last season, after spending huge amounts of money, and don't look any better now, having spent even more. Might have been of his own accord but he was under a hell of a lot of pressure.
― Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Monday, 22 July 2013 18:13 (twelve years ago)
Nothing would make me happier than for Abramovich to just hand him some pointlessly destabilising job at Chelsea.
― Matt DC, Monday, 22 July 2013 18:20 (twelve years ago)
Martino to Barca is fairly heartwarming given the current climate of the managerial carousel, where if you've got the experience you qualify for any going job automatically. Obvs this bonhomie does not extend to David Moyes, who I hope sinks Utd for the next 2 years at least, if not beyond

Spurs are apparently "not far away" from meeting Soldado's £26m release clause, according to Valencia's president.
Bernard to Arsenal for £21m is an interesting rumour.

scoop! i have a friend who works at the tie rack at madrid-barajas and he saw bale and pérez having breakfast this morning in the airport nandos

Nandos do breakfasts???
― what makes a man start polls? (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:35 (twelve years ago)
lol spiralli
you still haven't given us the lowdown on everyone's favourite phallically-dubbed centre-back btw, or do you regard the custom of asking about a player signed from a lower division to be in bad or condescending taste
― imago, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:38 (twelve years ago)
just that he's our only new signing and it'll soften the blow of having no money & potentially having to play all our matches at the priestfield in 3 years' time
― imago, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:39 (twelve years ago)
They're really good at first but they go soggy quickly and you soon realise you've paid far too much.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:39 (twelve years ago)
oh shi
Just hearing from a mate that he knows a guy oddjobbing in spain (recession ;_;) and he gave a quote for taking down old soffits and doing up the flashing on a beautiful little country pile just outside madrid just yesterday......to gareth bale.
― mundane peaceable username (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:39 (twelve years ago)
suspect info imo - my mate's a typist for real and he says there's no so many zeroes on the end of Bale's new contract that he never needs ask a price for anything again
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:41 (twelve years ago)
imago - i don't know how many time you think i have seen the city play in the last 7 years... i can tell you that i have seen wood play live twice and he was the best cov player on the field both times albeit with very little competition. he has 'presence'. prevailing opinion with the couple of friends i have back home who still torture themselves regularly is that they were a little bit surprised as they thought/hoped he was just not quite good enough to attract notice.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 11:49 (twelve years ago)
well, apparently he left on a free, which i didn't even know. can't even get my second hand opinions right sadly. so here is a direct quote: "he was quite good, better than what we have". that, right there, is faint praise.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:01 (twelve years ago)
ty, realness is probably the #1 attribute of a good championship defender tbh. clint hill being the sublime archetype. and regarding the 'not quite good enough to attract notice' well that's our lingering hope now too
― imago, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:02 (twelve years ago)
“I’ve always liked Karl,” said the QPR manager. “He’s a good sort, he’s a competitor. He looks like he wants to win.
“He’s captain of Wolves and whenever I came up against him he always had that attitude about him that he’s very determined. I think he is what we need at the club.
“He’s a bit of a leader on the pitch and he will be a big asset for us. He is having a medical and it should go through today.”

Wolves' Karl Henry insists tackle that injured Bobby Zamora was fair• 'I felt it was a good tackle,' says the Wolves captain• Midfielder sends his sympathies to the Fulham striker
Karl Henry insists he did not intend to injure Fulham striker Bobby Zamora, whose right leg was broken in a tackle by the Wolves midfielder. Zamora, who also has ligament damage, will be out for as long as five to six months despite a successful operation.
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:33 (twelve years ago)
fuck the world tbh
i grimaced when we signed derry and rbrqch but this really is something else
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:37 (twelve years ago)
Just as well Bobby Z's not the sulking kind. Is he staying btw? The big league needs Bobby Z imo.
Oh, and another defeat for Man Utd. Moyes is acquiring an air of haplessness, rarely agl.
― Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:38 (twelve years ago)
people say these pre-season friendlies don't mean anything but a string of defeats kind of does imo.
― Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:39 (twelve years ago)
maybe two not a string yet. i'm just thinking back on liverpool losing loads of warm-ups before finishing seventh in 09/10

― r|t|c, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:41 (twelve years ago)
Henry's reputation as a dirty player is a bit unfair. He's slow as fuck so he gets to the tackle late if he gets there at all but mostly he doesn't get there. also he panics if he's got possession and struggles to pick out a pass at 3 yards, and as a shield for the defence he's not up there with a sodden paper bag, but other than that he puts a shift in. kudos.
― what makes a man start polls? (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:50 (twelve years ago)
I'm more concerned with the quixotic nature of our transfer policy than another pre-season loss. It's all a bit...Arsenal
― Number None, Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:53 (twelve years ago)
Given Liverpool have stayed at that level for four years now, I think it was due to more than an unfortunate set of pre-season friendly results
