If you can get ESPN3 they always have the games in their archive for a while.

D@v3 M. (dan m), Wednesday, 14 August 2013 21:09 (twelve years ago)

What the hell? I checked midway through and Bosnia were 2-0 up and cruising.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 14 August 2013 21:10 (twelve years ago)

we're good now

D@v3 M. (dan m), Wednesday, 14 August 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

Jeez! Northern Ireland beat Russia, Paraguay scored three in Germany, Switzerland beat Brazil.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 14 August 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

xp actually no that's not true, I wasn't watching closely but it seemed that Bosnia subbed out most of their good players and then we came back

D@v3 M. (dan m), Wednesday, 14 August 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

xp not US-related but I don't know what else to do with it

from the bits I saw US played pretty well, not like they just muscled and scrapped it, can anyone who saw the whole game weigh in?

anonanon, Wednesday, 14 August 2013 21:30 (twelve years ago)

trying to think about this philosophically w/a tuesday game ticket in my drawer.

anky, Saturday, 7 September 2013 05:04 (twelve years ago)

let me channel the vibe of this board and say orozco you're shit, jozy why do you have to be so stupid, why w/o bradley are you all so fucking ~bereft~ in back, tim howard are you an unequivocal #1? i'm not saying guzan vs mex but you do need to look at yourself including that beard in the mirror tonight

anky, Saturday, 7 September 2013 05:14 (twelve years ago)

That second cr goal hurt a lot to watch.

D@v3 M. (dan m), Sunday, 8 September 2013 01:10 (twelve years ago)

i said this on the WCQ thread, but we looked pretty poor last night (i didn't see the first half), barely able to string passes together or keep possession for a significant amount of time. Michael Bradley is the most important player on this team, imo. good points were landon who showed a lot of fight and was able to deliver quality set pieces and Goodson who got his head on a lot of balls in the area and looked really solid. Beasley kept finding himself with lots of room, making long runs and then pissing away the ball in a most deflating manner. i love Zusi's beard.

anky: now you're getting it

his LIPS !!! (darraghmac), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)

I was happy for them but I kept feeling it was more that Mexico looked absolutely dire more than we looked good. Not terribly dangerous in attack and we got particularly lucky in the back. Any team in good form would have easily equalized against us given the amount of space we gave Mexico at times. We definitely miss Bradley...

Ma mère est habile Mais ma bile est amère (Michael White), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

success in international football, or my perception of it, has really declined to now just being not as dire as the opposition

his LIPS !!! (darraghmac), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 16:55 (twelve years ago)

otm

Mexico were superior the majority of the first half but seemed to have completely given up in the second. No enthusiasm for getting forward. Bradley's absence was huge, but Mexico had some absences too (I don't think Ochoa would have played the ball as badly as Corona did on EJ's goal, for starters). A friend said, "Beating Mexico is sort of a national pride big deal, beating ~this Mexico~ isn't really that big of a sporting deal." And I stick to that.

Still, lol Mexico.

Should be interesting to see what Klinsi does with the remaining qualifiers as far as rosters/lineups. Not ever seeing Orozco again would be a good start.

D@v3 M. (dan m), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 19:51 (twelve years ago)

What the hell has gone wrong with the Mexican national team? I thought big things were expected of them after the Gold Cup win in 2011 and the Olympics win last year.

Old Boy In Network (Michael B), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 20:28 (twelve years ago)

Who the hell knows. Success going to their heads? Lack of self-confidence? Too much pressure? Sounds like they're bringing Víctor Manuel Vucetich in as the next coach (Tena only a caretaker?) so that might make for a change.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 10:28 (twelve years ago)

He saw some action in the Gold Cup this summer iirc but he doesn't really seem to figure in the first choice squad any more.

dan m, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 15:22 (twelve years ago)

Besler, Gonzalez, Cameron, Goodson are the first choice CBs afaict, outside back positions are a lot more problematic

So, Harry Redknapp revealed Jurgen Klinsmann "will almost certainly take Oguchi Onyewu to the World Cup." Hmmm.... #USMNT

two weeks pass...

GOALKEEPERS (3) : Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Tim Howard (Everton), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire)

DEFENDERS (7) : DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest), Michael Orozco (Puebla)

MIDFIELDERS (7) : Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Roma), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Brek Shea (Stoke City)

FORWARDS (6) : Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders FC), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

dan m, Monday, 11 November 2013 15:32 (twelve years ago)

Lichaj back in the mix again is interesting, though pretty much everything I've read about him indicates he doesn't have what it takes. Luckily for him, though, none of the other pool fullbacks seem to have what it takes either.

dan m, Monday, 11 November 2013 15:34 (twelve years ago)

Lichaj always looked "sub-standard" edging towards "pretty bad" whenever I saw him playing for Villa fwiw. And competition in Villa's back four hasn't exactly been stiff these last three years or so

Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Monday, 11 November 2013 16:07 (twelve years ago)

Yous are gonnae get pumped so hard by Scotland :)

paolo, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 10:30 (twelve years ago)

Also since when has Beasley been a defender?

paolo, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 10:31 (twelve years ago)

since klinsmann asked him to be one.

wmlynch, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 15:51 (twelve years ago)

Yup, outside back is the weakest spot for the US right now.

dan m, Wednesday, 13 November 2013 16:14 (twelve years ago)

Dull dull dull first half.
