Either that or a crossover with Grand Theft Auto where you have to build up a vast criminal empire and fritter it away on trying to get Wayne Rooney to join Arsenal.

Can't watch the vid on my iPad. Is it Bony?
Regardless, Bony is quite a catch. Was player of the year last season in Holland. Goal scoring machine. If you see him walk he looks so slow, but he's so fast, so strong.

u2 prob that utd youth fa cup team of 1990 tbrr, are they still here yes how well erm who's better fair point but ffs
Obv you meant 1992, but I've just investigated who was actually in the 1990 youth cup team. Aside from Giggs, it's probably safe to say you'd only have heard of one other player. Guess who...
(answer to be revealed next time I remember to check this thread)

Nope. Clue: there was a gap of more than 8 years between his third and fourth appearance for the first team.

Some guy who was signed as a stopgap circa 2000 then? Laurent Blanc? Andy Goram? William Prunier?

Marc Bosnich!

That's the fella

Remember when Bosnich goosestepped around White Hart Lane? What was the result of that? We've come a long way since then, RVP apologising in case his celebration at Stamford Bridge was misconstrued, etc.

Bozza must be about the same age as Mark Schwarzer, thinking about it. He's been retired for ages.

Bakary Sako to Fulham for £4m looks likely - love him but really not sure he's Prem class
Blackburn match our bid for Luke Murphy - here we go

damn 4m is good money. doubt any of our shite will fetch that much
sad for the cruelty but murphy would have been a pretty preposterous coup in fairness
1m for a kid with his cv is srsly 1995 throwback pricing, can't believe it's not a piranha bloodbath bidding war

palace have apparently signed peterborough livewire dwight gayle. good luck to him in the premiership, hopefully when they go down he'll stay
― rockety communism (imago), Friday, 28 June 2013 11:52 (thirteen years ago)
this is the classic thing with modern english fitba though, clubs seemingly act like murphy actually having played games (150 appearances at 23yo and captain of his side) is a bad thing. much better to spend 8m on fabian delph or whatever out the cradle before he gets tainted with experience
― r|t|c, Friday, 28 June 2013 11:55 (thirteen years ago)
there used to be credible explanations about relative cost of European vs homegrown but just over £1m for Murphy looks crazy tbh
― for many people a really special folder makes a huge difference (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 June 2013 11:57 (thirteen years ago)
i'm slightly butthurt about gayle as well, he was another on my tearstained fantasy champo shopping list. plays a lot like remy imo
otoh never a more crystal palace player did you ever see, at least the cosmic (w)rightness will be of some comfort
― r|t|c, Friday, 28 June 2013 11:57 (thirteen years ago)
think i saw the gayle fee was like 3m though which is maybe a bit strong for anyone not epl

But yeah, lol at those quotation marks. Can't work out if they're trying to make a point
Stoke just bought Erik Pieters from PSV, for 3m no less. Good riddens.
Watch this 40sec film of his 'finest' hour at PSV, getting a red in his first match after 7 months of injury, smashing his hand through glass cutting the artery in his wrist:
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=NuCR63ZyPKs&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNuCR63ZyPKs
Good luck Stoke, and thanks!
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 28 June 2013 18:54 (thirteen years ago)
How was he not at Stoke already?! Perfect transfer imo.
Also maybe I've been on this thread too much, but right it feels like 90% of this year's transfer deals involve PSV.
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 28 June 2013 19:09 (thirteen years ago)
Haha otm IK, he was born for Stoke!
As for the latter, maybe I have been on this thread too much, infecting and boring you all about PSV? But then again, it is an extraordinary transfer period for PSV. We already raked in 22 million by selling Lens to Kiev, Mertens to Napoli, and Pieters to Stoke. And then Toivonen is expected to join Norwich City, too. Exceptional sales really, compared to recent years when it was usually Ajax getting insane amounts of cash (Babel comes to mind).
I will keep my PSV banter out of here if it bothers people though.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 28 June 2013 19:16 (thirteen years ago)
No! If it wasn't for PSV there'd be nothing but young wingers disappearing into Anfield.
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 28 June 2013 19:24 (thirteen years ago)
Isn't Toivonen a bit too good for Norwich?
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 28 June 2013 19:25 (thirteen years ago)
That still is my pov too. But he's not had the best of seasons last year, bit on and off, and is regarded as a 'mean player' here. It's exaggerated, I think he would fit with Liverpool, bring them some gusto and poison in their attack.
PSV want to really get rid of him though. They told him he will be playing in the second squad if he doesn't renew his contract (only one year left). That's the new rage in Holland, clubs desperate to earn some dough for quality players who want to move on yet are sitting out their contract to be free agents. Conflicted about it, but I can see the reasons behind it.
In short, yes, I think he is too god for Norwich. But Bony is too good for Swansea, too. They still have to make it happen in the PL though, first. The next step will come naturally then. Or not, if they crumble under the pressure. Dutch league to PL is such a huge step. Hello Afonso Alves.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 28 June 2013 19:34 (thirteen years ago)
Would you mind elaborating on Bony? I've wondered how he'd do at Spurs but we've never really been linked.
― anonanon, Friday, 28 June 2013 19:52 (thirteen years ago)
Sunderland hope to sign Tom Huddlestone from Tottenham Hotspur for £5m. Talks regarding the midfielder continue but the 26-year-old's potential arrival seems a deviation from Paolo Di Canio's policy of recruiting speedy, athletic players.

― William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 28 June 2013 21:00 (thirteen years ago)
@anonanon: big disclaimer that should go with this is that the step from Eredivisie to the PL is huge, it's hit and miss if they succeed or not.
But Bony is a top class striker. Was MVP and top scorer of the League. Worked his way into the Ivory Coast squad as a striker playing along side Drogba. He's not unlike Drogba. Strong physique, seemingly lazy and slow. He can be invisible for 60 mins and then suddenly he is there, scoring three times. Tap ins, headers, far distance shots, free kicks, v all round. With a great acceleration to boot.
I really look forward seeing him in the PL. Just not sure if Swansea is the team for him tbh. Vitesse, a satellite club of Chelsea, play the same like Chelsea too. Think his qualities would benefit a counter attacking, fairly defensive playing style best.
On the other hand, Swansea could be a perfect second tier team for a player like Bony to rake in the goals week in week out like its no big deal.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 28 June 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)
Would take Bony over Adebayor any day of the week tbh
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 28 June 2013 21:19 (thirteen years ago)

Bas Dost is buried in the dull flame of existence at Wolfsburg. Still half decent though.

― Ismael Klata, Friday, 28 June 2013 21:38 (thirteen years ago)
What bemuses me about Pieters moving to the ~PREMIER LEAGUE, THE HOLIEST OF HOLY'S~ is this:
- Pieters has been injured on and off for two years now- Played 16 matches in 2011-2012, and only 2 (!) in 2012-2013- In one of those last two, he got a red, bashed his hand through a glass window, injuring himself for another three months
So HOW does someone at Stoke go "Hmm, that Pieters guy, yeahhhhh let's fork out 3.5million for that guy!"
How?
