oh Malky also scored or did something that weekend of yore, can't remember what, where or for whom

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i used to looooath cardiff but the soft spot for malky has put that on hiatus for now

arsenal and their fans in particular are a perpetual source of annoyance and rmde but idk about hate really

spurs i'm normally ok with but if i meet yet another one irl i might just snap tbh, idk if it's my social circle or my fragrant musk or what

r|t|c, Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:16 (thirteen years ago)

did anyone see birmingham are now sponsored by an e-cigarette company.. sort of delightfully appropriate i thought. should have posted it on real england thread really

r|t|c, Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:22 (thirteen years ago)

think i just find white hart lane incredibly grim. not that say upton park isn't but spurs feels more unpleasant. i also had a big run-in with their press officer a few years back.

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

how the fuck are cardiff spending 8m on this big danish lad when villa just got one off the same shelf for 1.5

r|t|c, Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

Arsenal fans are lovely and I don't know any in real life

Actually that's not true, although the only one I really know is French

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:31 (thirteen years ago)

Twenty years ago he'd've been English

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:32 (thirteen years ago)

I definitely hate individual players or managers more than teams, there's always a Mata or an Essien hidden in there somewhere I secretly want to root for

Except at Stoke, obvs

I'm surprised at the limited hatred felt for teams among the ILF commiunity. My hatred for many, many football teams is broad and deep, and runs from abstract resentment due to the behaviour of long-departed boardrooms ("the big five" as was are damned forever in my eyes for the formulation of this stupid Premier League and their gross and unreasonable abuses at the time and since) to very particular beef arising from personal indignity visited on me by visits to the clubs in question (the endless hours I sufered at the Withdean, Bristol Rovers' refusal to allow us ot get off the bus at their dump, that sort of thing).

Not to say I extend this hatred to supporters of these repulsive organisations, obviously. I've even been known to talk to Argyle fans, on occasion. At a push.

Tim, Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

My hated list changes depending on formation and how much refs let them away with

Occurs to me that dmac here is Dolly Parton to Real's Jolene.

Uh, I'm from Scotland, I'm surprised I've got any hatred left over for other clubs

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 27 June 2013 15:00 (thirteen years ago)

^ I don't know that I have the visceral, almost-physical loathing required to hate clubs, they're still fairly abstract entities to me.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 June 2013 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

i hate villa and by extension any team that plays in remotely the same colours - i have over the years been able to retroactively justify hating west ham, burnley and scunthorpe on personal grounds. i hate wolves. i don't hate any of the other west mids teams really, not even birmingham tbh, but i can enjoy any birmingham-area teams doing badly. i hate leicester and forest. i don't hate liverpool but i do seem to especially relish their failures. i hate sheff utd. i think i hate spurs and arsenal particularly because every fan of either team i have met irl, citizens of ilx excepted, has been just a complete dickhead. i don't have any ire towards man utd; chelsea and man city i don't like but it's not really deeply felt. i hate juve, lazio and bayern. i went to st etienne on an exchange and i was indoctrinated into hating lyon. i like real madrid, i really don't know why. i hate barcelona but i think that will only last as long as their smugness. i hate rangers, that feels mandatory, and arbroath because of conflicting angus-region loyalties.

since I don't really have a club any more I have nothing but a free-floating hatred of myself.

Tim otm

Hate: Birmingham, Birmingham, Stoke, Birmingham, Leeds, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Palace, Warnock, Birmingham, Birmingham, Man U, Rangers, Madrid, Franchise & Birmingham. I'm sure there's more but that's all that springs to mind right now.

Airdrie, Airdrie United, Airdrieonians - whatever you call them they remain detestable

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 27 June 2013 15:53 (thirteen years ago)

i hate villa and by extension any team that plays in remotely the same colours

I sympathise with this position but only Argyle play in a green and white first-team strip in England and if I were to allow myself to hate teams who played in green and white I'd end up lining up with some undesirable elements, one way and another.

Tim, Thursday, 27 June 2013 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

Merdey, do you consider yourself broken free? Is the liquidation that done it?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 June 2013 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

Vague's hatelist ridiculously similar to my own, although my caveat stands that hating a whole club is in most cases a bit weird

I'm free down here, though I was virtually free already, not much difference between the very negligible press coverage that kept me very loosely attached and zero press coverage. But it's different when I'm up north, my brothers are still ('still') fans so I have to play the role a bit. Feel I need to somehow seriously commit myself to a new club though, I'm not doing this football fan thing right.

Fanois och Alexander (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 27 June 2013 17:31 (thirteen years ago)

hm I think the Olympic Stadium is my local stadium so West Ham makes sense. Now for Darragh to teach me how to love Andy Carroll and we're sorted.

Or maybe I should choose some random Sheikh who doesn't yet own a football club and see where that takes me.

Either that or a crossover with Grand Theft Auto where you have to build up a vast criminal empire and fritter it away on trying to get Wayne Rooney to join Arsenal.

Can't watch the vid on my iPad. Is it Bony?

Regardless, Bony is quite a catch. Was player of the year last season in Holland. Goal scoring machine. If you see him walk he looks so slow, but he's so fast, so strong.

u2 prob that utd youth fa cup team of 1990 tbrr, are they still here yes how well erm who's better fair point but ffs

Obv you meant 1992, but I've just investigated who was actually in the 1990 youth cup team. Aside from Giggs, it's probably safe to say you'd only have heard of one other player. Guess who...

(answer to be revealed next time I remember to check this thread)

Nope. Clue: there was a gap of more than 8 years between his third and fourth appearance for the first team.
