Lol srsly? This deal gives us a year to plan for his departure rather than having to suddenly rebuild over a summer, and there are maybe three clubs in the world who would even pay £50m for him, and no guarantee that they will. And we get a year more or him, at the very least.

Seems sensible if only to avoid a repeat of the Modric fiasco.

We have 4 years to prepare for his departure if that is the situation. The modric fiasco was we kept him for a year and he performed well.

Doesnt matter how many teams would pay 50m if there's more than 0, and there is.

17m bale gamble is worth taking what with bigger tv deal plus if successful champs league revenue (and ability to attract better quality of replacement) at the end of it. "time to plan" should really already be in hand tho

ya in theory, sure. but it rarely seems to work out like that and in any case there should be enough money there now to still build usefully around him

Levy's main failing has been inability to plan for the departure of big players, or at least he's tended to leave replacements to the last minute, and bungled several deals as a result (Damiao, Moutinho being the big ones). As I've said before we won't sell him even if he doesn't sign, this is just to head off a summer of speculation and minimise pissing and whining.

tbf those two deals have been legit nightmarish by all accounts

I can see that outlook, but i dont agree that the cause is an inability to plan. Levy just pushes the deal too far. That wont change in another year, i mean damiao and moutinho have been 'just missed out on a deal' targets for three years now!

Capel would seem a decent lw candidate, damiao moutinho ya sure, and id prob make a cheeky bid at swansea's other spanish player

Tbf i acknowledge that there's no terrible hardship in the bale issue, but on a long term contract there sees little point inthrowing cash at him and also giving him an out next year.

Would happily take Pablo H, maybe Scott Sinclair as well although City are presumably paying him ludicrous money to never play.

Someone gimme an idea of what he'd do for us. More positive than parker but surely not a priority.

There'll be plenty of teams in for McCarthy, I can see him ending up at Liverpool more than anywhere.

Theoretically it would allow us to offload Livermore and put us in a position where we could listen to offers for Huddlestone and Parker. The chances of both Sandro and Parker being injured at the same time are relatively high I think. But I reckon he'll go elsewhere.
