Congratulations to St Johnstone and all their supporter.

ailsa, Sunday, 19 May 2013 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

Ended up on the pitch. Fucking delighted. No need for the snide.

michaellambert, Sunday, 19 May 2013 14:31 (thirteen years ago)

I wasn't being snide - anything that's bad for Caley Thistle is good for me!

ailsa, Sunday, 19 May 2013 16:18 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah congrats michael - really amazing result for your guys, and well deserved. Stuart and Tam totally otm much about the poetic justice of clubs whp've had to live within their means and cut their cloth carefully being the top sides this season.

sktsh, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:12 (thirteen years ago)

Rumours of a "Texan consortium" interested in a 51% stake in Dundee. Should I wander down to Dens Road with a bag of popcorn?

Really pleased with how our season turned out, feel a little sorry for Caley as they were so close. We totally crumbled after the split last season and it was painful. Hopefully we're a wee bit better prepared for Europe this time and Brown Jr doesn't hang himself over it.

I may be a little sensitive to comments like "St Johnstone and all their supporter". It's a sore point for those of us that do turn out, and I try not to get on any high horses about it - this was my first season ticket. We actually had an atmosphere on Sunday (the 'Well supporters helped a lot too!) and it felt like a Real Game, which was great. Atmosphere in the away end at Tannadice a few weeks ago was good too.

michaellambert, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:26 (thirteen years ago)

Also, do we think we can find one last Vlad quote for the thread title next season, or do we close that chapter?

michaellambert, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:27 (thirteen years ago)

Also, Sunday was the most anxious I've been all season, knowing we could do it (even if it relied on other results) given our recent history of bottling it in games that mattered.

michaellambert, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:28 (thirteen years ago)

Old sort-of meme from round these parts, absolutely no offence meant :)

Dunno if we can muster up a Vlad quote, but I bet I could find a Charles Green one...

ailsa, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:34 (thirteen years ago)

I think if we really wanted to, we could probably find enough jungle book quotes to last ten seasons. Chuckles maybe more fitting though*.

I daresay if we wait until the audio of the board meeting onimo posted about on the other thread is released, we'll probably have a treasure trove of quotes..

(*not particularly looking fwd to the inevitable "Oh come on, you all wanted to liquidate those purple huns too - Angelo Massone" - Scottish Football 2014-15 thread though)

sktsh, Monday, 20 May 2013 23:59 (thirteen years ago)

The feeling I get from twitter Tims is that it's better if Hearts stay up because all that sporting integrity pish goes right out the window when it's annoying Rangers supporters.

The Parvenu Fucktard (onimo), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 11:55 (thirteen years ago)

I read a belter of a bit of hypocrisy on the Timternet yesterday "I’ve no love for Hearts, but I don’t think they deserved to get screwed over because of the mess Romanov got UBIG into." People are agreeing with him, the same people who are going "lol huns" at anyone trying to draw a club/holding company distinction to prove that Sevco are Rangers and Rangers aren't dead.

I think it'd be both hilarious and very wrong if Hearts are liquidated and somehow stay in the SPL.

ailsa, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 12:03 (thirteen years ago)

Anyway, happy 10-years-since-Seville Day. I'm in here somewhere:

This is nice: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/may/22/paul-lambert-motherwell-dortmund

I remember when he went, thinking it was like idk Simon Stainrod joining Milan or something, then the next I heard was on friday sportscene or something showing a stadium full of fans giving him a standing ovation when he left.

18 YEARS! HOW?

The Parvenu Fucktard (onimo), Thursday, 23 May 2013 15:30 (thirteen years ago)

I swear every single one of these "this happened X years ago" is adding years to my life, or making me realise I've mislaid a decade somewhere.

ailsa, Thursday, 23 May 2013 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck, have just realised that cup final is on Sunday! Why are they doing this? My weekend was going to be very conveniently divided into football day/day spent with missus. I'm gonna need to make excuses both days now like a weasel. I was just really looking forward to Saturday!

Eyeball Kicks, Thursday, 23 May 2013 16:37 (thirteen years ago)

Because UEFA don't want us interfering with the Big Cup final that kicks off hours later. Stupid bah jumpers for goalposts etc.

ailsa, Thursday, 23 May 2013 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

This is the worst buildup to a cup final ever

paolo, Sunday, 26 May 2013 13:57 (thirteen years ago)

Yes, it's awful, isn't it? Gary Caldwell really is the most boring man on earth.

ailsa, Sunday, 26 May 2013 13:59 (thirteen years ago)

Celtic were excellent to a man yesterday. Some people saying Hibs didn't show up but I thought they just lacked an edge up front, maybe Griffiths wasn't 100%.

I understand twitter was a delight yesterday with Rangers fans in a hurry to be offended that British Army hating Celtic fans displayed an "Islam CSC" banner at Hampden.
1) What's offensive about Islam?
and
2) lol @ this

haha

Algerian Goalkeeper, Monday, 27 May 2013 14:35 (thirteen years ago)

Twitter was hilarious, aye, some Blue Order or Vanguard Bear heid yin was tweeting MPs and Piers Morgan and shit like that about how offensive it was that we possibly had Islamic supporters at Hampden or whatever the fuck his problem was. The Achill Island CSC flag was clearly in view several times during the match, ffs.

ailsa, Monday, 27 May 2013 14:39 (thirteen years ago)

re the match, I was genuinely a bit worried for the first five minutes or so as Hibs raced straight out of the blocks, but the goal knocked their heads down a bit and they never really rallied after that.

If *Hibs* didn't show up, fuck knows what people made of James Forrest. I assume he never got subbed off until the 88th minute because Neil Lennon forgot he was even on the park.

ailsa, Monday, 27 May 2013 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

Anyway: roll of honour for 2012/13

SPL Champions: Celtic
SFL1 Champions: Partick Thistle
SFL2 Champions: Queen of the South
SFL3 Champions: Sevco

Scottish Cup: Celtic
League Cup: St Mirren
Ramsdens Cup: Queen of the South

Bring on the close season madness!

ailsa, Monday, 27 May 2013 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

The Johnny Russell to Celtic story is gathering momentum. I'd be very happy with that. Not so happy to see the Fraser Forster to anyone else stories (usually coupled with "he has to play in England to put himself in the reckoning for the England squad" - despite him already being selected while playing in Scotland).

I see Sevco's transfer embargo's going well - four signings in a week.

no man is an islam (onimo), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, it's kind of ridiculous, isn't it? One of them was on the news (Law or Clark, can't mind which one) last night giving it all the "you have to just look at their history to want to play here", aye, their one year of being a bit pish in Division 3 screams "come and play for us", doesn't it? It seems a particularly stupid move for Cammy Bell, like Ian Black before him he was on the fringes of the Scotland squad, still, he'll be on telly more than he would be with Kilmarnock I guess.

I'd be OK with Russell to Celtic an' all, am assuming Hooper's off elsewhere.

ailsa, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 14:59 (thirteen years ago)

Speaking exclusively to Record Sport, Balde said: “I know Celtic have been in contact with my agent because they are going to lose their main striker – but I have more ability than any striker at Celtic.

“If a deal is reached where I end up playing for Celtic, the fans will be asking themselves after a just a few games, ‘Gary who’?

only first impressions and all that but fuck this guy

no man is an islam (onimo), Thursday, 30 May 2013 11:08 (thirteen years ago)

I should maybe caveat that with "if the Record have reported his comments accurately" because y'know.

Millwall given permission to speak to Lomas. Was only a matter of time before someone came after him. Will be interesting to see if the Millwall fans could cope with his appointment, plenty of them vocal across the internet.

As much as I like the idea of wee Jody returning as manager, I think Hartley would be a good shout. Or maybe Callum Davidson, if we're going for another first-timer.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

Wd hire hartley in a heartbeat

sktsh, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

Yup. He rates Stevie May too, would be good for us to get better at making use of our own young players.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

Where is jody m atm?

sktsh, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:33 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, Hartley's had a decent start to his managerial career, though he might want to stay and have a crack at the first division with Alloa before jumping up to the SPL. Has Jody Morris given any indication that he'd take it, he distanced himself pretty quickly the last time it came up?

ailsa, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:34 (thirteen years ago)

Was at Bristol City xpost

sktsh, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

Jody was at Bristol City but was let go in January. Saw an interview with him online, one of those "where my career went wrong" type things. Doesn't feel like long since I was reading him in a Saints match program talking about being up here giving him his love of the game back.

I agree about Hartley maybe wanting a crack at the first, but who knows. I'm not sure if his brief time playing at Saints was particularly happy either, wasn't paying much attention at the time.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:39 (thirteen years ago)

stevie may is awesome.Wish we couldve got him permanently.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:45 (thirteen years ago)

I've been pleased to see his progress but massively frustrated he's not been playing for us. Can't help but feel Lomas did the right thing for May's development, but for the lack of a long term contract.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:49 (thirteen years ago)

He got a new one year contract right?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:55 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, but it was squeeky bum time waiting on him to sign it.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:58 (thirteen years ago)

we could never have afforded the wages he would get but we were disappointed he didnt get a longer contract so we could loan him again. He kept us up really and got us into 4th

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 23:05 (thirteen years ago)

TBH i don't think he'd have re-signed with us to go out on loan again. I'm not sure he'd expected it to happen last season.

michaellambert, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 23:43 (thirteen years ago)

So Utd have lost two of their best players (Daly and Russell). Flood is away too and I wouldn't be surprised to see Mackay-Steven go
