Gonzalez starting is weird too but Bocanegra is old and they gotta bloody the new kids' noses sometime.

Deserved. The defense is HORRID.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 22:39 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, really really bad play from both CBs. Weaker there than at forward?

i was only able to periodically look up from work, but there seemed to be a . . . 'subpar work rate'. no pressure on the cross that led to the first honduras goal. guess it was pretty hot/humid tho

Brian Straus ‏@BrianStraus

Hearing Tony Beltran and Justin Morrow are only outside backs on roster. No Bocanegra. Jermaine Jones only German-American coming.

good luck usa

Excited to trot out in this lineup in the stadium named after U.S. Soccer legend Dick Sporting-Goode (I assume).

damning imo. a great read.
certainly not any less concerned about qualifying!

The more I think about it, the more I think there is a certain amount of clickbait/confirmation bias to that article. Which is not to say there isn't important info there for US fans, just that a whole lot of people are finding exactly what they want to hear (and exactly what they have been posting on BigSoccer for years, regardless of coach) in it.

a monolithic testament to shiftlessness and lost productivity (dan m), Tuesday, 19 March 2013 20:01 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i kind of agree, even though the artivle does an alright job pointing out that disharmony is found in every team.
but i feel like the bocanegra example could be seen the other way. so he was dropped, that sucks, but asking him to be involved in the team talk somehow makes it worse? shouldn't he want to contribute any way he can?

mizzell, Tuesday, 19 March 2013 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

Seeing analysis calling for a back 4 of Beasley, Edu, Gonzalez, Cameron. It's kind of sad that that's about the best lineup to be had there.
