Went to a turn of the century fashion exhibit with my wife back in the 90s.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:05 (fourteen years ago)

sounds cool

mizzell, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:06 (fourteen years ago)

hey terrence boyd is officially an american!

mizzell, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:06 (fourteen years ago)

It was a very cool exhibit.

On centerbacks: \tThere has to be someone besides Onyewu. Anyone, really. I like George John, but he's too slow for internationals. But his positioning is much better.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:08 (fourteen years ago)

i'd just like those guys given a chance to play.

mizzell, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:15 (fourteen years ago)

Our CB problem is real, if you look at the youth nt rosters there are few natural defenders.

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:18 (fourteen years ago)

I agree. Gooch has proved he shouldn't play, so someone else needs their shot at it.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:18 (fourteen years ago)

so why hasn't whitbred been called up?

mizzell, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:19 (fourteen years ago)

or john?

mizzell, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:20 (fourteen years ago)

There are dudes in MLS who could step up and get a shot, Anibaba for the Fire and Opara at SH come to mind. I think Cameron is a lost cause.

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:21 (fourteen years ago)

Whitbred is "injury prone". Think he was released by Norwich?

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:22 (fourteen years ago)

because he's apparently made of white bread and just as hardy. He seems to pick up injuries regularly. Plus he likely wouldn't play now because I think he's out of contract and wouldn't risk it.

xpost

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:23 (fourteen years ago)

Er, Opara at SJ above. Stupid phone.

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

hmm didn't know that. hope klinsmann calls up some new guys soon. the rest of the team is looking fairly solid (not great tonight) but the defense is pretty poor.

mizzell, Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

i haven't been watching but fuck this team anyway

toandos, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 04:08 (thirteen years ago)

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Wednesday, 13 June 2012 05:09 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

usa v mexico next week at the azteca? how the hell did I sleep on this?

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 6 August 2012 19:59 (thirteen years ago)

what's acceptable? 3-1 and not totally overrun?

toandos, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

given that I've read mo edu is being tried at cb I'm going to say 3-1 might be optimistic

would like to see boyd get a goal and seanjohn make a crazy acrobatic save but I'm not holding my breath

DX Dx DX (dan m), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 17:09 (thirteen years ago)

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/grant_wahl/08/14/us-mexico-exhibition/index.html

dunno if I would call mexico a contender at the world cup just yet, but it's hard to argue with a lot in this article. they've come a long way since 07 even.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

Had never seen Peralta until the Olympic final but he was impressive. I'm pleased Andres Guardado has moved to Valencia, he was too good to be playing in the second division last season.

Looking forward to tonight, with trepidation.

boxall, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

I'm reading a lot of talk on twitter etc where people are straight bashing some of the n00bs that got called up, saying they don't deserve to be there b/c it's Mexico, and nothing is more important than beating Mexico. WTF? What about finding new starting CBs that aren't 30+ years old? What about putting some real pressure on these kids in a game that doesn't _really_ count and seeing who steps up? The beating Mexico at all costs myopia is what partially got the team in the state it's in to begin with.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Wednesday, 15 August 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

a not-very-full azteca, weird

toandos, Thursday, 16 August 2012 00:13 (thirteen years ago)

I forgot this was tonight.

USA USA USA

blue öyster crüt (m bison), Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:01 (thirteen years ago)

That ought to silence the naysayers who didn't want Brek on the squad.

Howard's a beast.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:02 (thirteen years ago)

Tim has been unconscious, couple of those late saves have caused my heart to skip a beat

blue öyster crüt (m bison), Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:04 (thirteen years ago)

Wow. 75 years of futility by the wayside.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:07 (thirteen years ago)

HOLY SHIT

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:08 (thirteen years ago)

blue öyster crüt (m bison), Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:10 (thirteen years ago)

does this mean we get mexico's gold medal?

blue öyster crüt (m bison), Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:10 (thirteen years ago)

The Mexico excuses are already flying I'm sure, but without irony, and without jingoism, let me say:

USAUSAUSAUSAUSAUSAUSA

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 16 August 2012 02:19 (thirteen years ago)

Contentos por que sabemos que le ganamos a un muy buen equipo, en unos de los lugares mas difícil de todo el fútbol. Saludos

two weeks pass...

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/soccer-dirty-tackle/jamaica-strategy-opponents-come-kingston-them-high-then-212052612--sow.html

The U.S. will play Jamaica in a World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium in Kingston on Friday -- a place known to opponents as The Office since "no one wants to go to the office." But as Tropigol.com explains, this isn't your typical office (unless you work at High Times magazine):

That atmosphere can be a bit intimidating and quite unique for international sports since there's the pungent scent of marijuana that has been known to permeate from the crowd. During the 2001 World Cup qualifiers, U.S. players said they could smell the drug as a cloud of smoke hovered over the crowd on a sunny Saturday June afternoon.

"They say when they come there, they smell marijuana," [Jamaican midfielder Dane] Richards said.

A mate of mine was at the Nou Camp to watch Barca back in '04, he was taken back by the amount of fans smoking weed in the stands beside him.

Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

squad looks a little thin without bradley and donovan

Howard
Dolo Boca Goodson Johnson
Jones Torres
Corona Dempsey Shea
Altidore

?

mizzell, Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:13 (thirteen years ago)

the fat man in jersey predicts the following, more likely imo

-----Shea------------Altidore--------------Gomez----

---------------Edu--------------Jones------------------

--------------------Beckerman-------------------------

Johnson---Bocanegra----Cameron-------Cherundolo

---------------------Howard-----------------------------

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:45 (thirteen years ago)

btw this is on beIN SPORT which afaik not everyone gets, might want to check yr provider if you're planning to watch it

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)

also ray hudson NOT calling the match ;_;

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)

he was taken back by the amount of fans smoking weed in the stands beside him

this is gonna sound corny as fuc but here goes: i've been getting high (outside) and going to sounders games by myself for about a year and i CANNOT believe how much more, tactically, i've gotten out of the games. off the ball movement, width, 1v1 matchups, tactical shifts, all are more clear. and yeah it could be that i'm going by myself (not concerned if gf/friend is bored), watching more in total, whatever, but man, i suggest it, one hitter quitter and sit and ~~watch~~.

anky, Thursday, 6 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

when we went to the grand opening of red bull arena in 2010 there were some massive bluntz circulating in the stands. in retrospect I can't believe we didn't get thrown out/arrested.

didn't get a lot out of that tactical-insight-wise beyond "damn I wish we had joel lindpere" and "oh shit we are going to suck this year".
