EBTs are perfectly legal if used properly.

I'd throw them out completely if they keep trading but are found to have cheated. Fuck keeping them in the system, seriously. Uefa might also want a wee look over their participation in any of their competitions if they have been playing improperly registered players.

ailsa, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

if i was a Celtic-minded (and not dead) lawyer looking at this i'd be working out how many champion's league campaigns they were possibly robbed of, not to mention SPL titles, and how much that cost the club.

A BIG JOE JORDAN TYPE OF POSTER (onimo), Monday, 5 March 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

every club should get extra cash for finishing 1 place higher. Not gonnae happen though.

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 5 March 2012 18:47 (fourteen years ago)

Why not? I suggested that way upthread (or on the other thread), or possibly somewhere else entirely. Might never get the money, but worth the principle of trying.

ailsa, Monday, 5 March 2012 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

i agree

I wish I'd been able to reject redundancy the couple of times it's happened to me :-(

ailsa, Monday, 5 March 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

i dont remember the motherwell players being allowed to do it when they got screwed over

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 5 March 2012 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

Not that I'd consider a 75% wage cut. Presume these guys have huge mortgages, car repayments, etc, the kind of stuff I couldn't repay if someone took away 75% of my income.

xpost, there were over 20 folk binned the day after they went into administration. Presumably Duff and Duffer think they can increase income and decrease outgoings a different way, but I've no idea how they think they are achieving it. Seizing money from elsewhere is plugging some gaps for now, a luxury Motherwell didn't have, but it doesn't seem a long term strategy for survival.

ailsa, Monday, 5 March 2012 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

cutting the costs to keep them running isn't paying the current £9-15 (depending where you read) tax bill. I still think this is all about delaying long enough for the big tax case to drop while they're still in admin. No point cutting you cloth to come out of administration only to be hit with a £50m bill.

A BIG JOE JORDAN TYPE OF POSTER (onimo), Monday, 5 March 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

That too :-)

Isn't this all some flavour of dereliction of duty?

ailsa, Monday, 5 March 2012 20:04 (fourteen years ago)

9 in a row looks safe enough for them.

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 5 March 2012 21:45 (fourteen years ago)

Way I read that is that there's nothing yet to suggest they need to take action. If anything comes to light from the SPL/SFA investigation, they may think about it. I think if Rangers (current version) have to rejoin the SFL for any reason (like if they get relegated this season following massive removal of points won through playing ineligible players) they may think differently. A newco applying for membership of the SFL wouldn't make any difference, I don't think, as they wouldn't be Rangers so their past shouldn't matter.

I think. Dunno.

ailsa, Monday, 5 March 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

Not saying it's right, btw, just that that's how I read their lack of action at present.

Time for the Rangers fans to sue the SPL/SFA for allowing us to be taken over by a bunch of crooks without due diligence. They are supposed to be the protectors of the game in Scotland.

lol

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 10:35 (fourteen years ago)

That sounds rotten about the lawyer. You can easily imagine a career/life ruined by getting sucked into this stuff.

I was surprised at Whyte keeping £3m in a UK account to be arrested, actually. I'd've expected him to have moved everything he had to Dubai or somewhere out-of-reach instead.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 10:47 (fourteen years ago)

That's only £3m though - I expect there's more, there was £6m of the Ticketus money left over after paying off LBG, and the Jelavic money (has any of that found it's way back to Rapid who weren't actually paid in full for him?), and maybe Charlie Adam's sell-on fee as well? Plus all the unpaid tax and NI money.

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 11:22 (fourteen years ago)

The administrators at Rangers have turned down the offer for cost-cutting made to them by players on Monday.

Duff & Phelps have also advised the squad that if a form of wage cuts cannot be agreed then the redundancies will be more than previously thought.

Gregg Whyte and Mervin dont-call-him-Celik already released according to SSN.

A BIG JOE JORDAN TYPE OF POSTER (onimo), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:44 (fourteen years ago)

STV tweeting that Wylde left of his own accord and wasn't made redundant, rumours that several players have asked to be released from their contracts.

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:49 (fourteen years ago)

Sky sports news said the same and about celik too

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:52 (fourteen years ago)

Sorry, can't watch Sky Sports News at work, just reporting from where I'm following. Assume they're all getting their info from the same place, tbh.

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:53 (fourteen years ago)

i know, i was just confirming what you said

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

i said "released" in my post fwiw

A BIG JOE JORDAN TYPE OF POSTER (onimo), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:55 (fourteen years ago)

i also said Whyte instead of Wylde lol

A BIG JOE JORDAN TYPE OF POSTER (onimo), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:57 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks. I'd assume Rangers Official Media Partner's news is confirmed already though.

Wylde seems a decent person if what he's saying is true about walking away without wages or a redundancy package. I wonder if any of his higher-paid colleagues will feel the same?

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 12:58 (fourteen years ago)

Oh wait, they don't do walking away, do they?

lol @ Ray Winstone. Was reading some "Wylde to Motherwell" rumours a minute ago - might get into the Champions League after all :)

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 13:55 (fourteen years ago)

SSN just called Celik "Sellick" - didn't take long for him to get his name back

A BIG JOE JORDAN TYPE OF POSTER (onimo), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 14:03 (fourteen years ago)

is there anything preventing them arranging to sell players (for more than the sum of their accumulated wages until the transfer window SLAMS OPEN) and so keeping them around with a profit on the books? i would have thought they'd be able to get more from wylde than a few months worth of his wages, unless (big unless) their wage structures are absolutely mental.

Boo-Yaa Too Rough International Boo-Yaa Empire (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 14:03 (fourteen years ago)

not that other clubs would be willing to pay much for players who'll be in the dole queue in a matter of weeks anyway.

Boo-Yaa Too Rough International Boo-Yaa Empire (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

If they are still paying them, they have to find money to pay them with, which I expect would be the stumbling block to that? Or do you mean deferment of wages until the end of the season then pay them what's due to them out of the money their sale has generated? I think that's what the players + reps were offering, and it was knocked back, though I might have misunderstood this (don't know if you can arrange a pre-contract at this stage of the season, even if the club's in administration). Also surely players would just join the list of creditors and any money raised from their sale would go into the pot to pay all the other stuff as well and plug the million/month black hole, so they might not get the wages anyway?

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, i guess i was thinking of it in terms of either the buying clubs paying something in advance (never going to happen) or the old/usual way of working with money you don't actually have yet via loans etc, which is obviously no-go in this situation.

Boo-Yaa Too Rough International Boo-Yaa Empire (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 6 March 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

I might be wrong, but I would assume the administrators have looked at all their other options, hence massive delay in redundancies while they seek alternatives. Or else they are just raking in massive fees for doing bugger all.

ailsa, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 15:00 (fourteen years ago)

aye i read elsewhere that the administrators need to get rid of ten Gregg Wyldes just to pay themselves

Kyle Bartley on Twitter:

"Never was a quitter.. Never will be a quitter. #fullstop"

Easy for you to say when you're not actually employed by the club that's making your current colleagues redundant, eh? (why hasn't he gone back there, btw?) And a nice sentiment towards your team-mates that are falling on their sword.
