Not sure about that: Yaya Toure £24m, Ozil £12m (must've been more?), Meireles £10m-ish all not so far off Modric imo

Ismael Klata, Friday, 17 June 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

ozil is an amid/support striker, and in last year of contrac

touré wasn't quite proven in any given role, though he's probably found his niche now

meireles not really first rate hence fee

luka m's actual value probably about £30m, but in a summer of inflated transfers and after a bidding war w/ ynahtid and chelsea, it's not unfeasible that city pay £40m

deems should be more worried about citeh sending adebayor in return, possibly after levy sniffs at a lower exchange offer from chelsea containting drogba, while muttering something about amortisation

this is so depressing

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Sunday, 19 June 2011 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

Think they're going in for Usain Bolt, pretty sure he's better than half their first team at the mo.

j/k lacan (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 19 June 2011 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

chelsea type player imo

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 19 June 2011 23:01 (fourteen years ago)

story in the independent now claiming he will take it all back, or clarify that he meant he will be happy to go if the club want to sell him.

mizzell, Monday, 20 June 2011 02:46 (fourteen years ago)

all arry's idea to squeeze levy

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Monday, 20 June 2011 08:33 (fourteen years ago)

'arry 'as suggested he might be after a couple of big top tops to convince Modric and Bale to stay. It'll be interesting to see where he'd want them to play. If the Leandro Damaio interest is as solid as the papers suggest and the bids for Dembele and Abel Hernandez were legit, it might not be up front, unless we're going to have a total clear-out.

модный хипстер (ShariVari), Monday, 20 June 2011 08:44 (fourteen years ago)

Story in the Independent seems to suggest that Modric doesn't have the stomach for a fight and won't force the move, I suppose a Gareth Barry/Liverpool situation is as good as we can hope for here.

Modric and Bale are both young, we may placate them by saying we'll sell one or both later if we get another season out of them. Redknapp will be happy as it makes it likelier that Levy will be bounced into behaving like a big club - ie making a couple of big signings without having to wait for the moon on a stick to come in from the Bentley deal.

Also apparently Kia Joorabchian is involved in some way? That's not good news and is bound to annoy Levy. Like, he'd stand to get a fee if Modric was sold to Chelsea but not to another club, or something? Very dodgy.

Matt DC, Monday, 20 June 2011 08:51 (fourteen years ago)

well fuck that, we should just shoot the cunt

Modric will be ok if he stays. He's got five years of a contract, it was a pretty stupid move by him tbh.

I think the chances of him going were far greater before he opened his mouth

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Monday, 20 June 2011 09:01 (fourteen years ago)

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Monday, 20 June 2011 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

How would the resident Spurs fans feel if he does stay?

Chris, Monday, 20 June 2011 23:56 (fourteen years ago)

delighted, tbh.

i always thought berbatov would have snapped out of it, and doubly so for modric

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Monday, 20 June 2011 23:58 (fourteen years ago)

Won't cause irreparable damage to the relationship? I think Gerrard was forgiven pretty quickly wasn't he after the Chelsea thing(s).

Chris, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:02 (fourteen years ago)

nah i can't see it, if he stays he'll get out there on the pitch and play and it'll blow over.

i'd have had sympathy with him, relatively anyway, before he opened his mouth on fri night.

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:05 (fourteen years ago)

Football fans are fickle creatures. Utd fans forgave Rooney once he started playing a bit again.

Number None, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

i can see modric's case tho, i really couldnt see rooney's.

beta the drivel you know (darraghmac), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 01:00 (fourteen years ago)

Luka Modric spotted at Anfield. Stayed tuned for photographic evidence.

Lots of talk that Spurs have accepted a bid of £35m from United. Fingers crossed it's just gossip.

модный хипстер (ShariVari), Saturday, 25 June 2011 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

no way would we accept that

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Took a few but none of them are very good - he kept MOVING!

Chris, Saturday, 25 June 2011 20:15 (fourteen years ago)

couldn't get one of him scoring no :)

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Saturday, 25 June 2011 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

I had my head in my hands at that point I'm afraid.

Chris, Saturday, 25 June 2011 21:34 (fourteen years ago)

fair point

good article about the lovable tyke in goal.com- why is luka modric so highly rated when lampard scores more and fabregas has more assists, they conclude that it's because he's good at other stuff.

remarkable stuff

Chunks on strippers is the game of my frog (darraghmac), Saturday, 25 June 2011 21:40 (fourteen years ago)

The Modric rumour seems to be stemming from "TransferUpdate" on Twitter, who seems a tad suspect to say the least

Had an inkling this was possible when he scored two v Spurs in Madrid in April. You could do a lot worse.

Drogba news gone quiet lately, I suppose he's staying.

boxall, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 23:44 (fourteen years ago)

yeah looks like drogba stays, tho apparently moves were mad efor lukaku today so....

i rate adebayor's ability, but his attitude stinks

if we're loaning strikers then sturridge pls

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 23:46 (fourteen years ago)

in fact, part swap for modric would be good business there

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 23:47 (fourteen years ago)

and so it looks like going

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 July 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

So making him captain didn't work then? What's your source here, I thought Chelsea were more interested in Pastore now.

boxall, Sunday, 24 July 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

source is pmac, by text, from tesco. dunno where he gets his info tbh

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 July 2011 18:08 (fourteen years ago)

Gotta add that one to my RSS, thanks for the heads-up.

boxall, Sunday, 24 July 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

he'll not be happy at being outed

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 24 July 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

ya never set me wrong yet iirc

who shivs a git (darraghmac), Sunday, 24 July 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

Saw a copy of the Daily Star on Sunday on the Tube earlier, the back page had Chelsea bidding £27mn for Modric with Sturridge going to Spurs as part of the deal iirc.

James Mitchell, Sunday, 24 July 2011 20:34 (fourteen years ago)

Sturridge and 'arry at Spurs would be a lethally funny combo for ILF lols.

two years pass...

For as long as this guy can walk, he can have a spot in my midfield.

Up there with Berbatov and VdV as the most persistently joyous players to give the ball to in my footballing memory (Spurs edition) and it seems impossible that he's still somehow putting in performances like he did tonight
