Wasn't Luxembourg a non-qualifying co-host on your bid?
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 3 December 2010 14:08 (thirteen years ago) link
A non-qualifying co-host who wouldn't be holding any matches, in fact?
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 3 December 2010 14:10 (thirteen years ago) link
don't think we've had a tournament where the hosts were ranked 113th in the world before

yeah and also failed the provide enough $$$$ bribes (you'd think they could've done something for us there!)
.. beginning to like the absurd bizareness of this whole Qatar thing though. (for example hadn't until today realized it was soooo small)

i kind of like beckenbauer's idea of having the tournament in january. i'd like to see players in mid-season form once in the WC
― con suelo, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 03:18 (thirteen years ago) link
When it comes to bidding for the next tournament, a country with a sense of humour should put together a satirical bid based around park football and jumpers-for-goalposts, but openly promising €10m each to the thirteen corrupt members, and see how far it gets. I'd've proposed Ireland 2026, but fear that may be a financial burden too far.

Uefa members back winter World Cup. BBC top story for some reason, maybe because the EPL is opposed. I kind of think Qatar has done well to make it this far, they should see it through now, in the summer and everything.

I'm not sure the headline framing and use of statistics is particularly helpful, tbh, even if the article is a bit more nuanced. Qatar should be held accountable for failure to follow through on its commitments and the recommendations stemming from domestic and international scrutiny but it's pretty much the only country in the region making commitments or opening itself up to that kind of scrutiny in the first place.

There hadn't been a Scotland v Israel game for a couple of weeks so... it's obviously good that Scotland won but it would be nice to have the occasional comfortable victory.

Group G is wild.
Norway failed to beat Latvia at home, so sit in third place on 18 points, behind Turkey on goal difference.
Netherlands were cruising to automatic qualification but have just conceded two goals in four minutes vs Montenegro, so they’re on 20 if it ends like this.
Norway play Netherlands in the last game. If they win, and Turkey beat Montenegro, Netherlands would be out.

No easy games in international football.
Elsewhere, I'm faced with the possibility that Scotland might actually be quite good. However. Even though Adams scored (again) I still think we need a centre forward. We don't have really have any centre backs either but Clarke's main selling point is his skill at organizing defences.
