he's not back fully fit as yet, but tbh he's handled the defensive aspects of both games this week brilliantly.

Just watched Neville huffing and puffing vs City on MOTD - if Bale has anything close to Bellamy's pace Neville won't even bother chasing him, though he'll likely have a good go at slowing him down early on.

drop BAE, and there's no actual noticeable change in positioning from bale whether he's sent out at LB or LM imo

in a week where we have deservedly beaten arsenal and chelsea i'm not sure i'm int he mood to acknowledge any problems.

BAE is a much-improved player, but if it's a choice between the team with him in it or Bale at LB and Palacios in DM, then it's an easy choice.

Thudd's performances in the centre with Modric this week- hardly have given Capello food for thought?

Capello will pick him in the squad but not play him IMO*, which would, I think, be fair

*barring injury/final group game

what's fair is often wrong

Started every game bar injuries/suspension- Jenas is a fading memory.

Hargreaves has improved hugely since never playing football anymore imo.

There's a place for Thudd in games against teams that will sit back and defend- a full-time DM won't be needed and won't have enough to contribute in attack.

But I doubt he'll go, Capello doesn't seem to fancy him.

would this be the Capello who has given him a cap and IIRC said nice things about him

definitely got an aggro streak. some lovely passes today and some neat defensive work, thought he generally looked pretty good, albeit happy to let city play in front of him

maturity shown in the past maybe dozen games makes him a squad cert imo.

I think Gareth Barry limping off increases the possibility of Thudd going to the World Cup quite considerably.

well no word on that yet but it didn't look too serious.

the fact that barry has been fairly anonymous in a fairly anonymous midfield for quite a lot of the season should probably come into play too.

barry has always made a weird virtue of anonymity though: some players make it look easy, barry has such an excess of composure that he makes it look boring.

its a pretty important thing in the premiership in the moment: barry, carrick, denilson, ballack, lucas- all kind of that same anon but important centre mid

huddlestone has become that guy, but with three or four world class crossfield passes per game. a little more consistency in the goalscoring and i can't see how he won't be in the running for england's first XI

there was a beautiful moment where he dummied to shoot, beat his man, dummied to shoot again, then slipped it wide for lennon (who cut inside, crossed for the Crouch knockdown, fell to Bale on the rising half-volley, almost sumptuous goal)

yes that was good. thudd dummies look nonsensical, it's like watching a glacier send you the wrong way over aeons

he did it a couple of times to notable effect. when he chooses to skin his man it is like some great natural wrong has been unleashed
