But THUDD works better for a big strike. Simplistic, powerful and onomatopoeic. And you can put extra Ds on the end to indicate POWER.

Anyway having JJ in midfield may not be a bad thing against Liverpool.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:49 (sixteen years ago)

I say you can have both YOMP and THUDD, Batman-stylee

your favorite toy dinosaur ruined my asshole (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:49 (sixteen years ago)

seriously, thudd with a soft 'd' finish just kind of dies out, but YOMP! echoes like a military shout

ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:58 (sixteen years ago)

JJ or kranjcar? would have assumed that niko/modric can do a job centrally, though that may be just a touch too attack minded.

that said, jenas midfield is just a touch too nothing-minded.

ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:59 (sixteen years ago)

Definitely not Modric in the centre up against Mascherano, he's way better with more space to play with out on the left. Probably not Kranjcar either given he plays pretty ineffectively there for Croatia.

Every time JJ has come on we start playing in a different way and there's more penetration through the middle of the park. I'd say Palacios-Jenas-Croatians on both flanks is the way to go.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

I'd trust Modric to win space in the centre, tbh. And I'm not sure that Liverpool, in their current state (including injuries) need much more than Palacios to handle them through the centre.

I'd much prefer to see us put them on the back foot, though in fairness JJ covers a lot of ground off the ball (though again, in fairness he doesn't seem to do much once he gets there)

ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 11:48 (sixteen years ago)

I actually just said YOMP out loud :(

no excuses for not watching him tonight folks- the best passer in the english game.

eh unless he isn't playing for any reason, like.

genial anarchy (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

I think watching a competent passing midfielder would make me cry.

requiem for a team (onimo), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 16:09 (sixteen years ago)

jesus to think that it's only 12 months since our starting midfielders were zokora and jenas- is this right?

genial anarchy (darraghmac), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 16:14 (sixteen years ago)

That Graun piece is v sweet and nice to read in its own way (this is the thread where it is OK to say stuff like that about Graun features) - also I love that he got picked ahead of Ravanelli for his Derby debut, aged 15

I googled Mike Watt. He doesn't sound that famous (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 3 February 2010 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

also it acknowledges that he is the best passer with either foot in england, which maybe more people need to say and hear.

thudd and modric- both in crap form lately (modric back from injury tbf) and that's 90% of our shit form (other 10% dawson's lack of brane and palacios lack of giving a shit intermittently)

quiz show flat-track bully (darraghmac), Monday, 1 March 2010 10:40 (sixteen years ago)

Gonna need Jamie O'Hara back at this rate. Either that or take a chance on putting a Croatian in the middle of the park. Actually, that won't work either seeing as we have no other fit wide players.

Matt DC, Monday, 1 March 2010 10:43 (sixteen years ago)

o'hara back, surely? would rather have him than jenas all other things equal anyway.

Tom Huddlestone has had 64 shots and scored once, the worst ratio in the top flight

mizzell, Friday, 19 March 2010 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

but he takes all his shots first time from 30 yards on either foot. i'm giving him a free pass on that stat.
