i'd have to know how you were sayin it though, to be completely happy with it spreading. for a start, it's never 'yomp' it's definitely YOMP, got to bite down on the 'mp'
― ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 14:04 (fourteen years ago) link
oh don't worry, i typed 'yomp' but said "YOMP"
― Do the english boil pizza? (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 19 January 2010 14:06 (fourteen years ago) link
ok, a small thing but we owe thudd this.
i dream of an entire packed 'Naming Rights Here' stadium barking YOMP as one some day, it will truly be shock and awe for the hapless opposition.

But assuredly it was in that Word of God itself which was in the beginning with God and was God, namely, in the wisdom itself of God, apart from time, at what time that wisdom must needs appear in the flesh. Therefore, since without any commencement of time, the Word was in the beginning, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, it was in the Word itself without any time, at what time the Word was to be made flesh and dwell among us. And that Word was YOMP.

― ma-cheese-mo (onimo), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:37 (fourteen years ago) link
Poor Tom, he deserves better than having 'yomp' as his legacy.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:40 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah what was wrong with THUDD?
― ma-cheese-mo (onimo), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:42 (fourteen years ago) link
UNIT, Big THUDD, YOMP- new marine code
― ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:44 (fourteen years ago) link
and YOMP is only for a THUDD strike, it's not a catch-all or anything
― ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:45 (fourteen years ago) link
But THUDD works better for a big strike. Simplistic, powerful and onomatopoeic. And you can put extra Ds on the end to indicate POWER.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:47 (fourteen years ago) link
Anyway having JJ in midfield may not be a bad thing against Liverpool.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:49 (fourteen years ago) link
I say you can have both YOMP and THUDD, Batman-stylee
― your favorite toy dinosaur ruined my asshole (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:49 (fourteen years ago) link

― ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:58 (fourteen years ago) link
JJ or kranjcar? would have assumed that niko/modric can do a job centrally, though that may be just a touch too attack minded.
that said, jenas midfield is just a touch too nothing-minded.
― ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 10:59 (fourteen years ago) link
Definitely not Modric in the centre up against Mascherano, he's way better with more space to play with out on the left. Probably not Kranjcar either given he plays pretty ineffectively there for Croatia.
Every time JJ has come on we start playing in a different way and there's more penetration through the middle of the park. I'd say Palacios-Jenas-Croatians on both flanks is the way to go.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 11:27 (fourteen years ago) link
I'd trust Modric to win space in the centre, tbh. And I'm not sure that Liverpool, in their current state (including injuries) need much more than Palacios to handle them through the centre.
I'd much prefer to see us put them on the back foot, though in fairness JJ covers a lot of ground off the ball (though again, in fairness he doesn't seem to do much once he gets there)
― ice cool HOOSicle (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 January 2010 11:48 (fourteen years ago) link

That Graun piece is v sweet and nice to read in its own way (this is the thread where it is OK to say stuff like that about Graun features) - also I love that he got picked ahead of Ravanelli for his Derby debut, aged 15

also it acknowledges that he is the best passer with either foot in england, which maybe more people need to say and hear.

Gonna need Jamie O'Hara back at this rate. Either that or take a chance on putting a Croatian in the middle of the park. Actually, that won't work either seeing as we have no other fit wide players.
