The light is great in that one!

The plan was to walk from Maze Hill to Cutty Sark DLR along the path before the sun set but Ava said "This is beautiful. Can we go on the beach?" It was almost completely dark when we finally left.

Michael Jones, Friday, 18 October 2013 09:42 (ten years ago) link

i am really into that, michael. you are i think the only person whose film & digital work i have trouble distinguishing between? either because you're good at scanning prints or else because your digital work is effective, i don't know. i am london agnostic but it looks really nice being where you were.

schlump, Friday, 18 October 2013 19:57 (ten years ago) link

Thank you! I do very little scanning of my own, so I think it's probably because I put a gentle S-curve on everything I shoot digitally.

Not a great shot, but, damn, Kristin Hersh came to my local bookshop and did the world launch of the new Muses record!

Not sure I actually like this photograph but I keep being drawn back to it. Bit more saturated than I'd normally go for, and quite busy with nothing really there.

michaellambert, Monday, 28 October 2013 19:37 (ten years ago) link

i like how abstract it is

乒乓, Monday, 28 October 2013 19:46 (ten years ago) link

also schlump i didn't say this last time but i really love the bike + hand upthread. great balance

乒乓, Monday, 28 October 2013 19:46 (ten years ago) link

yeah, michaellambert, I like that one - the shadows are doing just the right work across the ground, giving this little slice of light to work the frame within a frame...it's groovy. And I think the saturation looks great, not OTT at all.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 01:47 (ten years ago) link

Thanks guys. Was really nice light that day. It's turning so quickly now - around 4pm there was some really nice light coming in through the office windows, not long after 5pm it was dark.

A couple of DSLR generations ago that would have been ISO1600 or ISO3200 at a push!

Fireworks aftermath is great.

michaellambert, Monday, 4 November 2013 19:02 (ten years ago) link

v nice

what ISO?

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Thursday, 7 November 2013 20:35 (ten years ago) link

All 1600, I think. I've done some very light processing in Lightroom, but not much.

michaellambert, Thursday, 7 November 2013 20:41 (ten years ago) link

I went down to some pretty short shutter speeds, there's one or two in the Flickr set at 1/3200. Others more around the 1/200 - 1/800 mark.

michaellambert, Thursday, 7 November 2013 20:42 (ten years ago) link

btw mj, that photo's really nice and makes me realize that I tend to take really lazy pictures of my parents. which I ought to change.

chinavision!, Thursday, 14 November 2013 01:15 (ten years ago) link

chinavision, I have a shot of the same sunset, if that date's accurate! Yours is a lot more convincing, though.

Love the colours in that waverley station shot!

sktsh, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 19:51 (ten years ago) link

the date is accurate. I was walking home across the brooklyn bridge and it seemed that everyone suddenly realized that the light was turning extremely beautiful. lots of slowing down and photographing all around. I shot a whole roll on the bridge.

hella good
text, watertower, subway

positive film is magical when you pull out a roll and see all the pictures you took just right there staring at you. unfortunately I cannot scan it for shit.

schlump all of your 'graphs have such good weight

you make me never want to take an evans full-frontal picture ever again

乒乓, Friday, 22 November 2013 13:12 (ten years ago) link

Just another pic of the eldest, but the first time I've put the manual focus Zeiss 135mm on the new camera. ISO 10000 to get the shutter speed indoors...

Crazy how ISO10000 looks better there than I remember 1600 looking a few camera generations ago.
