This is the joint account I have with my missus:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pernfors88/
We've had it since March 2005 and, unless you're a "friend" and/or one of a group of SE London parents who've been sent Guest Pass links to some sets, you won't be able to see the vast majority of the 6,000+ (!) images on there. Just tedious pictures of my commute or nice pics of things Pam has made.
Don't admin any groups but I did curate a Gallery a while back for lovely bits of signage culled from my Favourites:

Hmmm. That's got me thinking. Let's have a mini sub-thread in this thread...
Titling PhotosI tend to give my photos either quite flippant or else very dull & descriptive titles. I feel that this is holding me back, and that this image, say, http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2521/4234774484_453ac0d422.jpg, rather than being called "Shadows", ought to be called something wanky and pseudo-poetic like... "There will never be more than one sunset between you and I", or some such bollocks.
But seriously, how do you go about titling photos for upload?
― brain thoughts (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:20 (fifteen years ago) link
I ask my wife. Otherwise everything ends up being "milk child" or "blanket window", like I'm some mentally-challenged contestant on Roy Walker's Catchphrase.
But, yeah, punnish references to popular culture are fine by me.
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:25 (fifteen years ago) link
the stages of my flickr titling:
2005: camera supplied e.g. dsc000782005-2007: short descriptive/punny titles2007: unicode characters to 'represent' the image e.g. /≈/ for
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1429/649771187_51b13caad2.jpg
2007-now: no titles
― CATBEAST 7777 (ledge), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:34 (fifteen years ago) link
See I think "milk child" and "blanket window" are fabulous titles. Better, and more abstract, than, say Upside-down chair or Balloon animal, which I think are my own personal nadir.
― brain thoughts (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:35 (fifteen years ago) link
unicode characters was my fave but it got too difficult to keep up, i was just repeating the same ideas.
― CATBEAST 7777 (ledge), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link
with no titles the image speaks for itself, maaaan.
― CATBEAST 7777 (ledge), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link
I think playing safe with just a regular "this is what it is" title is better than overreaching for some comic effect or my own "say what you see" double-noun blankness. Also, I know my in-laws are now looking at our photostream, so "Fucking Menko" or "Shitstorm in a Piss Cup" are right out.
The Unicode era was great, Ledge.
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link
Ledge, during the Unicode era did you find yourself taking pictures just cos you knew you had characters to represent it?
― brain thoughts (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 14 January 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago) link
haha no way. could be an interesting strategy though!

If you're going through someone's photostream, do you think it is a good idea to "introduce" yourself? I look at a lot of travel and architecture pictures, my idea of showing appreciation is to leave a compliment or star something. I hope that is enough, some people look awfully busy.
It used to drive me nuts when people put lots of sparkly comments and graphics all over good pictures. When an American does this I want to beat them over the head, but I'm more forgiving of Europeans, I think they do this because they don't all write in the same language?

Isn't there just! I don't mind the re-design. An option for a "classic view" would maybe be nice, possibly some minor customisation options for the photostream, but it certainly doesn't deserve the reaction it's had!

Mr Jones, would you recommend 500px?
― not_goodwin, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:07 (eleven years ago) link
Well, I've paid $25/year for 8 years for a Pro account. Now I can either let it lapse and get ads (I can ad-block, but ppl surfing my stream on a Guest Pass won't be) or pay twice as much for ad-free. Or just carry renewing the Pro account for as long as Yahoo decide to keep it going (it's not really part of the new structure). Bit annoying. A cheaper transition to Ad Free for long-term Pro users would've been nice.
xp - it seems quite nice, good blend of the new-style Flickr look with lots of text on the right. Don't fully understand the community aspect of it yet (one of my photos has a "pulse" of 52.6, whatever that means) but everything I've put up has a view or two.
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:17 (eleven years ago) link
i dont mind the layout, but its def making digging through 2000 photos of my photostream to find one specific photo pretty difficult compared to the old way
― gr8080, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 16:33 (eleven years ago) link
I'll complain a little now. for whatever reason no photostreams will load on my work computer (5 year old or so imac). don't know why.
― chinavision!, Thursday, 23 May 2013 12:56 (eleven years ago) link
like if i want to find a specific photo thats 1000 photos deep in my photostream, i used to be able to just skip to like page 20 or something and then click few a few more pages till i found it
with the new layout it seems like it gets really confused and the same photos show up on pages 14, 15, and 16

I find my own stuff by searching mainly so I'm fine there, but otherwise these changes are getting worse and worse for me. My flickr experience involves lots of wordy stuff - descriptions and comments - which are now buried below the fold. Plus all the hierarchical organization things (sets and collections) which have been rendered more or less invisible. Even Facebook gets you to albums more easily. Ughhhhh.

I feel bad that I don't use it. Mostly bad for myself since I still pay for pro, just to keep the archive... but I don't take proper photos any more and my drawings go on instagram.
― ledge, Friday, 16 June 2023 15:30 (one year ago) link
I'm still at it! My thing now is to polish off 'chunks' of uploads (alternating between friends/life and architecture tourism) and then hype those up with little ten-photo 'highlights' posts to Instagram. My Insta is private to friends only, so it's not like this is driving a ton of traffic... it's just to give me that feeling of sharing the pics with people in my circle.
― got it in the blood, the kid's a pelican (Doctor Casino), Friday, 16 June 2023 16:00 (one year ago) link
Still paying for it, still pretty happy there. 27.5k images and counting. I'm always 2-3 weeks behind with uploads, worse if I've just had a proper shoot (like a wedding, last weekend) which isn't going to primarily be shared through Flickr, but it keeps me off the streets. Insta (private) is still mostly Proper Camera, but quickly wifi'd to my phone and generally same day, if not instant. Flickr is usually a superset of the same images, just a lot later.
