Grabbed this as we were packing our bags to return from a holiday. Didn't expect it to turn out so well.

I like that a lot Millsner, especially the composition and the detail of the bed. If there were one small thing it's that the top right is a little too bright at the expense of the left, but I love how you can still see the hand on the foot, which - for me- is the punctum. It's lovely.

plax otm, those pics are great. i'm way more invested in trying to capture something that captures one of my friends than i am getting a good landscape or w/e, & the gestures & expressions in the above are really nice.

Wow, that's an extraordinary image.

Thanks. That's the lobby of my apartment building, and that's vomit (99% sure). Public vomit is not as upsetting when its color and setting are interesting.

Looks like someone had too much red wine. Or they have serious stomach issues.

Anyway here's another none sunset shot from the Lake District.

Lovely.

This could be the start of something. Feeling entirely uninspired on Wednesday (I only had the 40D with me cos I was supposed to shoot a portrait at work), I decided to shoot from ground level around Soho. So, #1: walls. Wish I'd shot at f/11 or something as the shallow DoF doesn't do this sort of thing any favours. Collage in Picasa...

Wonderful, evocative shot, Je55e. I love the work that's been posted here in the past week or so.

I haven't really linked to it anywhere, but judging by the view count some people seem to like this one:

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6191/6041363621_0a79c6e482_z.jpg

Pretty happy with this. I'm slowly learning how to get better at scanning my negatives so that I can get the sort of tonal ranges I want. I'm also getting better at guessing a wider range of light conditions, which is very satisfying.

lou reed scott walker monks niagra (chinavision!), Sunday, 14 August 2011 20:33 (fourteen years ago)

yeah there's something very satisfying about developing a roll that you shot w/o using a light meter

dayo, Sunday, 14 August 2011 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

when in doubt, overexpose! after understanding how these films work I think you can overexpose by 2, 3 4 stops, maybe even 5 or 6 and still be okay. unfortunately scanners can't quite punch through overexposure yet but you can get good prints in the darkroom. just look at ralph gibson.

dayo, Sunday, 14 August 2011 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

Oh yeah I overexpose like crazy. And I can compensate for at least 3-4 stops in the scanner. I just had to learn how to turn some auto detection off. That allows me to scan beyond the edge of the frame as well without everything going haywire.

lou reed scott walker monks niagra (chinavision!), Sunday, 14 August 2011 21:53 (fourteen years ago)

I have sworn an oath that for one week, I will take no pictures in color, not a single one from any camera, under any circumstance. I need to take more control over my camera, and getting a better feel for the basics of light metering and reading the histogram seems like a good place to start. So this is my best shot from Day One.

Black and white week came and went so fast. I put in overtime last night, though -- until a cop kicked me out of Lincoln Park, in fact. Which has never happened before. I didn't even know they could do that.

Anyway. There's this.

Took a while ago. Felt bad about it, but everyone else was there with their phones. Guy pulled out of the canal after falling in drunk.

Not that clear but was just trying to catch the moment without being morbid.
