Found this one from my trip to SF last February. I was on the point of Alcatraz looking back, and thought what I was seeing at a distance was a fog bank rolling in.

Instead it was Noah's flood, soaked me to the bone, destroyed my umbrella - but did nothing to my Nikon thank God.

I love that.

Borrowed an ultra-wide zoom for a trip back to my old hometown recently (ostensibly to document the interior of the house where I grew up - I handed the keys back to the landlord that weekend) but any outdoor shots were hampered by relentless greyness and drizzle... But if Milo Z can cope with a SF storm...

I really like that.

Canada Day yesterday in Trafalgar Square, Richie Hawtin DJ set, mini-hockey, etc - but the real entertainment was provided, pretty much unbidden and surely unpaid, by this woman:

I'm going to try and post something every week to this thread, not necessarily new stuff (or even good stuff) but, y'know, to keep it ticking over and encourage others to contribute.

when I get my life more orderly, I'm going to work on doing a project 365, so, um, fourthed.

a cross between lily allen and fetal alcohol syndrome (milo z), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)

365?

good luck with that, you'll be surprise how many people start that and give up.

not_goodwin, Tuesday, 6 July 2010 20:15 (fifteen years ago)

Would not be surprised at all about the giving up! It will be extra hard for me, because even when I'm shooting I tend to wait a month or more before I start editing (unless I absolutely have to get on it). Will have to get in the habit of shooting RAW+JPEG for the times when I can't put in a lot of editing work.
On the positive side, new iPhone camera is a vast improvement over any camera phone I've had before.

a cross between lily allen and fetal alcohol syndrome (milo z), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)

speak not of telephone on photography thread!

i hope you do it, it takes a lot. are you shooting specific subjects or just capturing something that catches you eye on a daily basis.

not_goodwin, Tuesday, 6 July 2010 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

think I'm gonna settle for weekly

365 too hard and I am waaaaay too lazy

fresno's wet (gbx), Tuesday, 6 July 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)

there's loads of self portrait 365's on flickr, i don't know how they do it. taking a new random picture everyday can be time consuming, but to have to think about it, shoot and edit everyday must be a full time job?

not_goodwin, Tuesday, 6 July 2010 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

been so busy working on my website i have only made it 7 more pics into my set from Egypt.

Still going through old stuff that's just turning up. Alcatraz viewed from Pier 39 IIRC. Not very good small, since The Rock blends into Marin County, works a little bit better printed large.

I should totally pirate CS5 and use their new reality altering feature to make Sausalito disappear.

I've borrowed an 85L and a 17-55/2.8IS this last week and shot a wedding, so I've a huge stockpile of images now...but none I can put here. So here's one from the first day I took the 85L out last week...

This from back in May - tourists in evening light, Leicester Square...also cropped square, perhaps as some kind of joke, I don't remember...

RIP la petite mort (acoleuthic), Monday, 19 July 2010 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

Thnks for the kind words folks! The last one is just a makeover session - not a wedding.

I read some of the other ILP wedding photography threads - useful warnings within - am toying with pitching for offering to shoot a friend of a friends wedding late summer.

Will try and post some new ones later this week.

De que estas hablando? (Tannenbaum Schmidt), Monday, 19 July 2010 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

My solo wedding shoot went OK, I think. I'd give myself 6.5/10.

Stuff I messed up: first dance (was totally in wrong position, using wrong lens - but got other bride'n'groom dance shots later where, with careful cropping, it looks like they're on their own), family groups (it was never part of the brief to do these but, inevitably, other guests started to get groups to form for their shots, which I tagged onto and, not being 6'4" or prepared to elbow people out of the way, my piggybacked efforts are kinda lousy). A lot of casual portraits are quite poorly framed too; mindful of retaining 3x2 aspect for printing, my crops are ending up very contrived.

Stuff I nearly messed up: the kiss; shooting the ceremony with available light with the 17-55/2.8IS, suddenly realised the metering on the last few was messed up by strong wall lights behind the couple, starting fiddling with the Speedlite settings and..."you may now kiss..." Just got it with flash.

Stuff I'm kinda proud of: all the unposed portraits with the 85L, especially those after about 8:30pm, when the light on the patio was magical. But I was only pointing and shooting - f/1.2 does the rest! The later Elvis impersonator/dancing shots - from either up on a chair or low down on the dancefloor itself, 17mm, flash and bounce card. Ceiling was mirrored, so there are crazy patterns on everything which may be ruinous but I kinda like it.

Of course, I can't post any of these here!

31C, wearing a suit, 9-hour day. Loved it.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 20 July 2010 09:26 (fifteen years ago)

well done. i'm doing photos for friends in august as their wedding gift, so any advice is appreciated - bear in mind i don't think i've ever even seen a complete wedding album so i'm not sure what's expected!

I shot this one a couple of weeks ago. The lighting was a bit of a fluke, but don't tell anyone.
