I doubt that I'll get a trade for him, so what sleepers are probably out there in the free agency?
― Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 4 November 2005 22:02 (eighteen years ago) link
WRs are the easiest position to fill off the wire. Don't know who's available in your league this week but at least a couple of these guys ought to be...
Antonio Chatman, Bryant Johnson, Courtney Roby- All filling in for injured starters for at least the next couple of weeks. Chatman and Johnson should get the benefit of opposing defenses doubling Donald Driver and Larry Fitzgerald.
Bobby Engram, Isaac Bruce- Both due to return from injuries. Engram is the safer play, since he was having a pretty good season until he went down.
David Givens, Amani Toomer, Marcus Robinson, Doug Gabriel; Shaun McDonald- Toomer's coming on, Robinson may be hot right now, Givens is getting more looks than Branch and Gabriel can be a beast when he gets on the field. Givens probably the safest play, Robinson and Gabriel are risks that could pay off handsomely.
Antonio Bryant and Az Hakim may be available as well and are both decent plays. Antwaan Randle El is probably available too, but I wouldn't jump on him given his occasional stone hands and the Steelers' QB situation.
Charles Rogers will likely be playing the WR1 and may be worth a shot just for that despite Detroit's offensive disarray.

Like rogermexico pointed out in his thread, surely you can find a better WR.
― Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Saturday, 5 November 2005 01:33 (eighteen years ago) link
He can play like Jerry Rice on Scooby Snacks the rest of the way. Last I checked, receivers only put up fantasy points if the QB can get them the ball, and the line still isn't givving Carr time for downfield strikes. (Though to be fair Jabar Gaffney's been consistent pointswise in Johnson's absence. Not helping so much on the field, but not costing anyone fantasy games.)
I'm benching Donovan vs. Washington and playing Eli vs. th' Niners. Lack of faith or right place right time?YOU MAKE THE CALL!
Has Eli shown us anything on the road yet (erm, no. Unless you count the road game against the Saints). That said, if you take TO's word for it McNabb's not getting any healthier, and Denver may have just showed a pretty good, and pretty pissed off defensive unit how to handle him. Though if he plays there is that whole not-running-the-ball thing...
It's a tough call, but I'd go with Manning. He has to grow up sometime, might as well be now. And even if the Niners are healthy on defense now he ought to be able to chuck it to Shockey, rinse and repeat. Plus, y'know, Amani Toomer sightings have been reported.

In the WR department, I'm thinking Wilford (JAX WR2) is a decent pickup. Burleson (MIN WR1) too. My league has a very shallow bench, so I'm not big on one-week plays, otherwise I'd be taking a good look at Bryant Johnson (ARI WR2).
RBs: EBennett, DStaley, SGado, GJones, JWells.

Advice: If Jones cannot go this weekend, rookie Cedric Benson will get the starting nod for Chicago, while Adrian Peterson should get a few touches as well. On the season, Jones has 753 yards on 167 carries and six touchdowns in eight games. He also has 17 receptions for 66 yards.

In one league I have Michael Turner, Frank Gore, Larry Fitzgerald and Greg Jennings. Protecting all those left me without a pick 'til the 5th round. Which then left me with Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Pennington and Matt Cassel for QBs.
Fuck. I was kinda happy about that team until I just looked at that roster.

I don't think I took him until 9. There just weren't any decent (fantasy) QBs left at that point so I said fuck it.
Our leagues are either 17 or 18-man rosters (auction leagues require a TE), so I usually carry 3 QB, 4 RB, 5 WR, 2 K, 2 D
― ice cr?m paint job (milo z), Friday, 11 September 2009 00:32 (fourteen years ago) link
Ok, so I need some advice. My current team:
QB: Donovan McNabb, Kyle OrtonRB: Chris Johnson, Brian Westbrook, Fred Jackson, Tim Hightower, Jonathan Stewart, Cadillac Williams, and Chris BrownWR: Terrel Owens, T.J. Housh, and Devin HesterTE: Chris Cooley
My league is 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 FLEX, PPR.
At the moment, I've got a surplus of talented RB's. Chris Johnson + Brian Westbrook, unless something goes horribly wrong, will presumably always be starting at the RB position, which means I've got 3 producing RB's competing for the flex. I feel like my WR corps are a bit low, especially considering it's a PPR. So I'm thinking it might be worthwhile trading two of my excess RB's (Maybe Hightower on this huge week - 25 points - that he may not reproduce, with Fred Jackson - who also had a great week, 25 points - but won't be producing two weeks from now) for a first-string WR. Any ideas on who I should target?
Any opinions on who of these guys just had fluke weeks and who I should keep around? My bench scored 86 points this week (my starters only scored 122), so I think I'm in a strong position, but I've really got no idea how to put it together from here.

Look at some of the Colts wr's if Gonzalez's injury benches him for a while. That dude they got out of BYU looked alright last weekend. If you're looking to trade out for someone who's already taken, try Vincent Jackson. He's still under the radar with most people and the person in your league might be a gullible owner.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 06:17 (fourteen years ago) link
What's the chance Tim Hightower keeps producing big games? (If he keeps getting receptions, he'll be huge in my PPR league.)

What do you guys think about offering Fred Jackson (and maybe T.O.?) for Steve Smith? Smith had a bad week with Delhomme sucking it up, but he's gotta be due for an up-and-coming, and the guy who owns him got slaughtered. He might look at Fred Jackson's RB numbers and hit confirm immediately.
(Just wanna make sure I'm not screwing myself trading Jackson with some up-value for Smith if Delhomme really does just disintegrate this season.)
― Mordy, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 06:26 (fourteen years ago) link
Panthers are about to take on A.J. Feely at qb, so either Jake will start feeling pressure and step up or he will implode and Feely will come in and throw bombs to Steve Smith. I see some upside, but I wouldn't work too hard for it.

Also, since it's ppr, you might want to think about going for Whitten and put him in your flex spot (if you can put a TE in there). He and Romo are in love.

There is such a dearth of QBs in my 2QBs-per-start, point-per-completion money league that my backups are Jeff Garcia and Mark Bulger. Which one do I start? I had McNabb, but he got hurt.

Tim Hightower will keep putting up those numbers with any QB if Ds continue to focus on not getting burned deep. Same with Fred Jackson for the next couple.

I still have the problem of too many players and not enough slots. T.O., T.J. Housh, Brian Westbrook, Chris Johnson, Devin Hester, Fred Jackson, Tim Hightower, and Cadillac Williams. I hate trying to figure out who to start and sit -- I always end up leaving a ton of points on the bench.

I mean, manning is possibly the most reliable fantasy player of all time and he's already having a great year - deangelo and ryan are young guys who aren't really looking like top 5 rb/qbs. it would be a big risk on his part.
maybe it's just me, but if I had manning right now, someone would have to offer me something absurd to pry him out of my hands
― iatee, Tuesday, 6 October 2009 18:31 (fourteen years ago) link
i don't think he'd go for it because matt ryan strikes me (and probably most other fantasy playas) as a very good real life qb, still an unknown fantasy quantity whose current peak value is closer to a good game manager who will toss 20 TDs rather than an elite guy who will go off for 35-40 TDs. deangelo williams is good but his team sucks and he's not gonna run for 20 TDs again. i say this as a guy who drafted him #1 this year in the ilx league. : /

okay folks, pick two to keep as bench players and this week fill-ins: Kenny Britt, Mohammad Massaquoi and Sidney Rice.
― forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 7 October 2009 16:48 (fourteen years ago) link
I think Minnesota is going to be running the ball a lot against St. Louis, whereas Tennessee is going to be passing a lot against Indy. Buffalo/Cleveland might be a close game and could be a low-scoring grinder.
Kenny Britt is seemingly the #1 guy, and Collins can definitely get the ball to him. Massaquoi is a #1, but maybe he'll start getting covered more now that Braylon is gone. Rice doesn't seem like he's going to be more than a third option, but the Vikings score a lot.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 7 October 2009 17:11 (fourteen years ago) link

I have Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger in my money league. Should I try and get a #2 WR (which I desperately need. I've been going with Torry Holt and Hakeem Nicks all season) for Big Ben? Or is the possibility of injury to my boy Brees too great?
― Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 21:13 (fourteen years ago) link
I'd def trade Ben away for a #2 WR. First of all, the difference between QB's isn't too high, unless you're maybe talking about the top 1-3 (of whom you've already got one). Hell, I'd trade Brees AND Ben for someone like Orton and grab some superplayers. Top ranked QB's are for chumps.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 21:32 (fourteen years ago) link
Trade Big Ben for a #2 receiver + a lesser backup QB
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 21:37 (fourteen years ago) link
no no, do not trade brees. if you've got a dude who could throw for 40 tds, you keep him imo. maybe you trade him away for an underrated mostly-sure thing like schaub + another first round level guy, but otherwise no.
― access flap (omar little), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 21:57 (fourteen years ago) link
The problem with trading Roethlisberger is here's the highest-ranking free agent quarterbacks in my league: Trent Edwards, Kevin Kolb, Seneca Wallace, Matthew Stafford, Byron Leftwich, Josh Johnson. So if I lose Brees for the year I am absolutely fucked.

Battle of the Williams:
Ricky Williams at Jets or DeAngelo Williams at Cards?I'm leaning toward Ricky.
Also, would you take LDT and Mario Manningham for Deangelo? I also have Benson, Slaton and Ricky in a 2RB league, soooo....
― I AM NOT ONE TO PURSUE GAME, MY FRIEND - NO, INDEED. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 28 October 2009 14:40 (fourteen years ago) link
I'd go with Ricky, because the Dolphins burned the Jets on the ground last game, and the Giants had shit for ground yards against the Redbirds on Sunday.
Benson will be steady production all season (barring injury), and you can alternate Slaton and Ricky based on matchups. Is someone trying to trade you LDT and Manningham or are you trying to deal them yourself? If you have Deangelo already, keep him.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 28 October 2009 14:47 (fourteen years ago) link
they're trying to trade for Dangelo. I'm loaded at RB; WR is Vincent Jackson, Johnny Knox, Sidney Rice and Andre Caldwell, which in a 3 WR league is kinda thin... would prefer to deal one top 20 RB for one top 20 WR, but no one is buying. Manningham is meant to answer that but feast or famine Eli has me doubting him.

So...first week of fantasy playoffs. I'm the 8th seed squaring up against the 1st seed. He's 12-1 on the season. I finished 5-9 and somehow made it in. Still, my team is better than my record indicates.
QB BRADY (NE)RB A. PETERSON (MIN)RB L. MARONEY (NE)RB J. JONES (SEA)RB B. WELLS (ARI)RB B. WESTBROOK (PHI)WR R. MOSS (NE)WR C. OCHOCINCO (CIN)WR P. HARVIN (MIN)WR P. GARCON (IND)WR R. MEACHEM (NO)TE J. FINLEY (GB)TE F. DAVIS (WAS)DST BILLSK G. HARTLEY (NO)
We start one QB, two RBs, two WRs, one TE, one K & one flex offensive player (QB/RB/WR/TE).So, here's my question: Who do I start at my flex? And who do I start at RB2? Maroney, Wells or Jones?
I'm leaning towards a lineup of Brady, Peterson, Maroney, Moss, Meachem, Harvin, Finley, Bills D & Hartley. Hate to relegate Garcon to the bench again after so many good fantasy performances in a row. I'm pretty certain about benching Ochocinco, despite his big game (it was against DET, after all). Other than last week, he's been pretty unspectacular. But do I play him or Garcon instead of one of my other WRs? Moss could put up huge numbers any week, but he's been fairly quiet. Meachem, Harvin and Garcon have all been hot for the past month. I seem to always pick the wrong guy in situations like this. Halp!
― MikeJonze, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:50 (fourteen years ago) link
QB: Drew BreesRB: Jerome HarrisonRB: Chris Brown (!!!)WR: Mike Wallace (or Hines Ward, if he plays)WR: Robert MeachemTE: Antonio GatesD/ST: either Titans (v. St. Louis) or Cardinals (v. San Fran). Probably Titans.

xpost - none of your choices for RB2 are v exciting. maroney was scoring well while the other ne backs were banged up but sammy morris took a lot of touches and a rush td of off him against miami. i would still probably go with him because carolina's run d is injured and leaky of late.

mr. snrub, definitely go w/ TEN in that one. SF has a pretty good offense this year. so there's nobody better than mike wallace at wr in your league's free agent pool? i find that surprising.
― MikeJonze, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 16:02 (fourteen years ago) link
Thanks, I'll go with TEN, then. Nope, nobody better than Mike Wallace. I'm in a 12-team league, and the top projected free agent WRs are Louis Murphy, Brian Hartline, Earl Bennett, Davone Bess, James Jones, and Mohammad Massaquoi. Yuck.
― Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 18:34 (fourteen years ago) link
if he didn't have such a great matchup (cleveland), i would be tempted to go with bess instead. he also has a great matchup against jacksonville's soft secondary. however, if ward's out, that'll definitely help wallace get more passes thrown his way.

PPR league, snake draft and I'm drafting second. The guy drafting first already said he's going with Chris Johnson. That means I can either draft AP (super consistent excellent player in every way) or Ray Rice (also excellent plus tons of catches making him especially valuable in a PPR league). What do I do?
― Mordy, Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link
rice had 35 more receptions last year so what like 2 pts/week on catches? check the rest of your scoring and see if rice is really offering an appreciable advantage, because ap is the better player.

So my two really proud drafts this season: I got Arian Foster really deep into the draft and now it looks like he's going to be the #1 RB for the Texans. (I actually grabbed Slaton really late in the draft in his rookie season too -- so maybe I just have good luck with Texan RBs.) I also drafted Favre around the 10th round and now it looks like he's playing -- which actually leads me to my fantasy football advice request.
I've now got Favre + Eli Manning both on my team. Seems like a bit of overkill -- I didn't even want a backup QB, let alone two starters sitting on my roster. I'm thinking about trading Eli to someone but 1) should I wait a week or two into the season and make sure Favre is really back to form (and his ankle isn't really bothering him?) and 2) If I do trade Eli, what do you think I can get for him? I was thinking about trading him and some player with minor upside (like maybe Laurent Robinson or Correll Buckhalter) for a real backup QB (like Vince Young) and a mid-stud RB/WR -- doable? There are some teams with some really shitty starting QBs I think I could target (especially if I wait until week 2 when they start to recognize how shitty their QB situation is).
― Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link
You should wait unless there is someone who you think is in desperate need of a starter and has someone you want.

My first thought was that Eli's less likely to get his face pushed in this week, but that's just me being an NO homer.
― Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Thursday, 9 September 2010 00:20 (thirteen years ago) link
Even with Sharper out for the Saints, they're still likely to pick him off a couple times. Also, who's he got to throw to besides Harvin?
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 9 September 2010 00:25 (thirteen years ago) link
Eli has, like, 20 good receivers in his arsenal.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 9 September 2010 00:26 (thirteen years ago) link
for week one? I'd likely go with UNSTOPPABLE

Gonna end up with over 155 points this week and still losing the week's game because the guy I'm playing against scored the unheard of 184! (Top two scores in the league, just my luck to be playing against the very top score.)

ADVICE TIME
in a league w/ two starting QBs, i'm trying to decide between a concussed matt moore vs tampa (i also have steve smith) or a non-concussed jason campbell vs the saints
(for the record this decision is only being made because my second qb drafted was ol rapelisberger)
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 18 September 2010 02:41 (thirteen years ago) link
er, jason campbell vs THE RAMS
Campbell.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 18 September 2010 03:14 (thirteen years ago) link
I expect mcfadden to destroy rams all day. campbell should get some points in the wake.

I'd go Manning.

Yeah, even though Vikings play the Lions, Favre STILL has no one to throw to besides his tight end.

Johnny Knox or Hakeem Nicks? I like both but I think I favor Knox in the matchups.

Looks like he had an ankle injury to overcome. He's a fast corner, but not a shut-down corner by any means. His return yardage will probably be his greatest asset.

kevin walter is a solid fantasy wr. if the texans offense is clicking he will get points. kc defense has been tight this year but houston are at home and they will get a lot of the ball.

I say Dez --http://images.chron.com/blogs/askacat/hatcat.JPGis clearly trying to get him involved in the passing attack and he's been targeted a number of times in every boys game I've seen.

So, PPR league, the score for this week's game is currently 136-99. I'm winning, and I've played all my players. My opponent still has Chris Johnson left to play. What do you guys think? Am I gonna win this one?
― Mordy, Monday, 18 October 2010 16:21 (thirteen years ago) link
i have 3 fantasy teams and am caretaking 1 for a friend on vacation and 3 of those 4 teams have a decent sized lead but are facing chris johnson. i am hoping that dude slips and breaks his leg getting off the bus.

I have a 7 pt lead, TN's return guy and one of Jax's TEs vs. Johnson. Figure I'll be saying "dammit!" by the end of the night.

the rule is: if you start a guy who is banged-up, he will either not play or barely play. if you bench a guy who is banged-up, he will score 3 TDs.

My team: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/clubhouse?leagueId=525972&teamId=6
So this point in the season I'm second place in the league, and I've got some killer players (only lack of depth is at QB). Briefly for those who don't want to click the link, I've got Arian Foster, AP, LeSean McCoy, Mike Williams (Sea), Miles Austin, Mike Wallace (Pit), Steve Smith (Carolina), and Lee Evans. (I also have Anthony Armstrong + Nate Burleson.) I feel like I can dish out Lee Evans and maybe someone like Mike Williams or even Anthony Armstrong for a strong starting option, but I stink at doing trades. I'm soliciting any advice. Another team offered DeAngelo Williams for Lee Evans + Mike Williams, but I'm iffy on DW being a legit starter this year. What do you guys think? Any trades you can recommend me pursuing or should I sit on what I've got? I always feel like I blow it around this time of the year, either by making a stupid trade that I didn't need to do (I dished out Steve Slaton two years ago which ended up costing me the league championship) or missing a great opportunity to unload excess decent guys for a real starter.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 26 October 2010 16:20 (thirteen years ago) link
I had DW in both of my leagues and I finally just dropped him off in one because he's dead weight. I'd keep Lee Evans, actually, because Ryan Fitzpatrick not only likes to throw, but he's pretty good at it.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 26 October 2010 16:36 (thirteen years ago) link
DW is still a good back but he and Stewart can't do much until they establish a consistent passing game.
