patron saint of unballerly behavior, matt bonner:
Bonner bought his car, a white Pontiac Grand Prix, in New Hampshire to avoid paying sales tax.[8] He chose it because it had good leg room and decent gas mileage.

There is an Italian-made Ferrari in the players’ parking lot, but it does not belong to Jennings. It is guard Michael Redd’s car. Jennings opted for a Ford Edge, with its sticker price of $26,000. “I want to save my money,” he explained.

After signing with Sicilia Messina of the Italian league based in Messina, Sicily, 2003 proved to be a harrowing year for Bonner. Bonner survived a 104.5 degree Fahrenheit fever brought on by a bout of salmonella (treated by the team dentist) most likely caused by a lack of running hot water in his apartment. Sicilia had filed for bankruptcy in the middle of the season and had stopped paying its players. Bonner's heat and electricity were shut off and he was given two eviction notices.

"Stories about former Bulls star Scottie Pippen being a cheapskate are legendary. There's a laundry list of Chicago restaurant servers who can attest to Pippen's notorious low tipping habits. Turns out nothing has changed. The New York Post reports the ex-NBA champ even tried to bargain with a bunch of strippers the other night at the Penthouse Executive Club, a "gentleman's club." But according to the paper's source, the women, "who are not impressed by celebrity, but by financial liquidity -- moved on to the next suite, which was occupied by a very willing group of young stockbrokers with zero negotiating skills." An NBA player might ride a bike at work, hopping on a stationary one if he can't practice. Suns forward and downtown resident Louis Amundson rides a bicycle to work. His silver beach cruiser with the bell is like his team. If he is aboard and pedaling, the vehicle - whether it is a bike or the team - is always moving.

Regarding his own personality, Duncan compares himself to Will Hunting of the movie Good Will Hunting, which centers around the genial and antagonistic character of Will Hunting, portrayed by Matt Damon. He stated: "I'm just a taller, slightly less hyperactive version of the Damon character in the movie.
Duncan also loves Renaissance fairs and the fantasy role playing game Dungeons & Dragons.[95]

Tolliver’s gifts to himself at his career milestones have been nice, but far from over the top. The first gift for his D-League contract was new rims for his car, which at the time was a Chevy Tahoe. Another time he said he gifted himself a new stereo system.
But what about the diamond earrings?
“These were a gift from Claire’s,” he said.
Claire’s? As in the costume jewelry place at the mall?
“I will never in my lifetime buy real earrings, because I lose them so much,” he explained. “I know the hard work it takes to make a dollar. Real earrings this size might cost $2,000, and if I lost $2,000 I would be sick to my stomach.”

I would like to take this moment to address one "beef" I have with Subway: his name is Jared Fogle. Jared has been a spokesman for Subway for the last 10 years after losing 245 pounds by only eating Subway subs. I heard Jared has not stayed true to his "Subway diet" in recent months. Regardless, I think I eat more subs than Jared. I challenge him on this. So Jared… you, me, sub eating contest. Anytime. Anywhere.

* While Duncan took part in a boxing workout after Thursday’s practice, Bonner chose the more leisurely option of working on his already deadly 3-point shot. “No boxing (for me),” he said. “I grew up on the streets of Concord, New Hampshire. I’m…quick with the fists. Quick with the 1-2.”

* A mysterious ‘KM’ could be seen marked on the Spurs’ two practice courts in blue tape on either side of the paint when training camp opened on Tuesday. Strips were later added stretching diagonally from foul line to baseline — forming a trapezoid, not a parallelogram, as Bonner astutely corrected a member of the media.
“I learned that from my daughter’s Sesame Street shape book,” he said.

1. My Shoes - I had the fortune of being sponsored by New Balance for two glorious seasons. Here’s the problem: New Balance stopped sponsoring basketball players almost three years ago. So while the other two or three players in the NBA wearing New Balance switched to Nike or Adidas or British Knights, I was left in the proverbial shoebox. Nobody wanted me.To this day, I am still wearing New Balance basketball sneakers I have left over from the “good old days”. I’m down to my last four or five pairs and have no clue what I’m going to do when they run out. I even called New Balance in the hopes that they would send me some more. They said no. I then scoured the internet and came up emptier than Leonardo Dicaprio at the Oscars. In a last ditch attempt, I found one pair in my size on E-Bay but they were purple. The scrutiny from Coach Pop wouldn’t be worth it... But they are soooooo comfortable! The point is, I am obviously the only person wearing New Balance basketball sneakers in the NBA, possibly the world. Apparently that’s NOT COOL.

IndyStar has been doing a rundown of ALL TIME HOOSIER BALLERS and are at Rick Mount (who, even at like 55 yrs old, was probably the greatest shooter I've ever seen live). His hairdo in the SI cover from '66, which I believe features (tough to really understand the physics of it) HAIR PARTED TO THE MIDDLE AND A MINI RAT-TALE IN FRONT, might be the most witebread look ever documented:

“Part of Rick Mount’s appeal was the way he looked,” Phillip M. Hoose wrote in the book “Hoosiers: The Fabulous Basketball Life of Indiana.” “He had a sense of style. He wore his collars and sleeves up. His blond hair was cut in a burr, except for two carefully-managed rows of longer hair, which converged into a butchwaxed curl dipping down onto his forehead. He called it the ‘Cobra.’”

SAN ANTONIO — Matt Bonner had been hoping to squeeze at least another 60,000 miles out of his 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix.Alas, the Red Mamba’s sweet ride was put out of commission near the end of last season. Bonner declined to reveal details, but an exclusive Express-News investigation has learned that it was totaled in an accident. (Chalk up another one for the shmohawks.)After making do for several months with an El Camino, he finally settled on a full-time replacement: the 2014 Chevy Impala, which beat out a slew of luxury competition to become the Official Car of Matt Bonner.“Love it,” he said. “It’s completely remodeled. It’s American-made. You have to stay true to your roots, right? I tried an Audi. I tried an Infiniti. I looked into a BMW, some of the higher-end stuff. It just didn’t feel like me.“The leg room is far superior, which is basically No. 1. No. 2, it has over 300 horse power, which is plenty for me. And it still gets 29 MPGs, which is pretty good for a mid-size model. It had all the same technology packages. It has ventilated seats. It’s very luxurious.”

What is the crown jewel in your personal collection?I do have a complete run of Teen Titans from their first print to Secret Origins to now, even though I’m not a big fan of the Essential series. I’m kind of just collecting out of the completist sense. Is there a gem out there that you’re hunting for?Showcase No. 4, the first appearance of the Barry Allen Flash. Flash Comics No. 1, which is the first golden-age Flash comic. Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories No. 1—I have it, but it’s in very ratty condition. It’s probably only worth $200. A very fine copy would be like $80,000.You’re an illustrator yourself. Who are your favorite artists? To go from earliest to latest: There’s always, you know, Winsor McCay, Walt Kelly, Al Capp. Will Eisner, Edward Gorey, Marc Davis. For the more typical superhero artists, George Perez, Carl Barks and Don Rosa. Tim Burton. Theodore Geisel.

Can I pick Angela Lansbury in Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Angela Lansbury? She’s not a particularly great wizard, but I just love that movie so much. Maybe it’s the combination of her and David Tomlinson’s character. Those are my three.

Not as many as Brook. He’s pretty much collecting everything DC Comics publishes right now. I have two or three titles I’ve collected and tried to complete those runs.
You’ve said since Brook signed such a huge contract with the Nets, he’s now just blowing it on comics.

B/R: Your player profile at Louisville lists spaghetti with ranch and sugar as one of your favorite foods. That seems like a peculiar combination…how did you stumble on that?
TR: Well, spaghetti is good with ranch, and spaghetti is good with sugar. You put all of that together and make a sandwich out of it and you get greatness. People shouldn’t judge unless they try it. Spaghetti can last a month in our house. You make a big pot, and it can last the whole week.
