Starting to think biking life is a series of close calls...? Rode home last night in thunderstorm with glasses rain-slicked so that every light blinded me, couldn't see potholes/dips under all the water, at some point my blinky light fell out and is gone, tried to avoid metal grates for slippage factor but hit a couple, etc. Nuts. Buying helmet this week.

i stopped at my local for 3 afterwork beers. then some chilxors showed up. then my friend jeremy showed up. next thing i know i've been there four and a half hours so i left to go to a show at the hideout. billisa were there and i switched from beer to tanq & tonic. stayed at the show until midnight then we went and got tacos. then i got a txt to meet a friend at a different bar so they dropped me there. it would appear i got home around 2:15. somehow my 3 beers turned into 9 hours of drinking at 3 different establishments.

a couple weeks ago i woke up with a splitting headache one sunday after what amounted to a pretty vicious week-long bender & had one of those epiphanic moments where i realized i was killing myself & didnt even have health insurance & i could actually feel pain in my organs, it was either a liver or a kidney, im not great on physiology, & my hands were shaking & my tongue was numb & at times i would twitch. so i just said fuck this & didnt touch a drink for 2 or 3 days until i felt alright again. then when i did start drinking again, it was only a few. and now im drinking all the time again & i feel great.

So, Tuesday night I was sitting around at home drinking and ended up going out to the bar (more accurately, friends drove me there) for a drink. And apparently a flaming dr pepper with the bartender. Cut to Wednesday morning, where a hangover somehow evolved into a splitting migraine headache.

I called in sick, slept until noon, then watched eight hours of borrowed Battlestar Galactica dvds.

I have no idea. I had them on at the bar but they did not make it home with me. My bag was also stolen that night. being hungover is often pretty great imo, stretching out your limbs feeling the booze coursing through your veins, yawning falling back asleep, i always enjoy music coffee breakfast so, so much, mood might depend more on whether you actually had a good night but physically speaking i think it's a pretty ideal state like if i were at a monastery forever i might consider getting trashed every night and waking up listening to lauryn hill drinking coffee on my couch all day

eight months pass...

had one of those hangovers where you feel every emotion extra intensely, the day i flew back from a trip to cuba

i cried on three separate occasions, in chronological order as well as decreasing order of justification

1) in the morning, seeing a tv news broadcast on the syrian refugee crisis (one of my best friends came to canada as a refugee from afghanistan as a child, and i was at once very happy for the refugees being allowed into our country, and sad for all of those who wouldn't make it)

2) waiting in airport terminal, reflecting on the beauty of the relationship between my mother and her husband. my mother was single and lonely for years after my parent's divorce, and now claims she is the happiest she's ever been, and is married to a 10/10 rock-solid awesome dude

3) the in-flight movie was 'aloha' featuring bradley cooper. there was a technical difficulty and the sound wasn't working so i watched it silently. started crying while reflecting on bradley cooper, how beautiful he is, how many laughs i've shared with him, how happy i am to have let him into my life, how many millions of other people have had similar experiences

i am never ever ever drinking again. never. i mean i felt fucking awful on getting up, and then it just kept on expanding until a i felt like a creature from another planet. i think so. i had a period where i thought i’d kind of nailed it, and was having four days off booze entirely per week and my consumption even then was v restrained and only in the area of pleasurable enjoyment. and it felt *great*.

then i went all GO BIG GO BIG HIT LES last night. this weather hasn’t helped.

flopson - a version of me knows what you mean and had on occasion described a hangover as “strangely productive” - a sort of fluency and focus out of a slight reduction in sensory capacity. but that version of me is dead now, and i know no hangovers other than this.

did i mention constant waves of sensing that i’m about to hurl?
