komische musik request: sounds like "zoetrope" by boards of canada

so the tropicaliakraut thing is going pretty smoothly. i haven't had a lot of luck tracking down the tropicalia ($20 a pop for the fucking gilberto gil reissues!!!) but OTOH it's been easy and fun picking up the krautrock (water reissues, so nice, tower records import buyers, so nice, prog/kraut/experimental section at streetlight records in santa cruz, SO SO SO NICE)

now somehow i'm getting sucked into the komische thing ... i dunno why, i guess maybe it was because i was in a record store and they were playing klaus schulze?? also i've been freaking out on the live kraftwerk discs, too ... also finding a trove of used EXCEPTER (SO DOPE) and NNCK discs and also finding old copies of PSF discs and getting into TOHO SARA ...

so i guess my idea of the ultimate komische thing would be something that sounds like "zoetrope" by boards of canada. stately, epic, smoothness above all else. the standard recommendation is always "tangerine dream: alpha centauri / atem / zeit / phaedra" but to me they sound too much like some sort of aphex twin / lustmord / main type serious industrial dude music.

i want something that sounds like steve hillage's "rainbow dome musick", except with synths!!

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 06:33 (nineteen years ago)

or alternately, like this ABSOLUTELY SHITTY pop-trance garbage that ferzarffe made me buy, except w/o the pop trance beats.

>:-(

(actually i really bought it because of the third review ... "it is sublime, perfect control of every track he choose ,be sure not just to hear it , you need to listen to it!! ... if you can imagine yourself in the perfect place, at the perfect time with the perfect people in a world of pure perfection!!!!! If you like inspirational music GET IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!")

Like "Zoetrope": Ashra's Blackouts?

More Tongue Feldman (noodle vague), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:12 (nineteen years ago)

"don't trust the kids" is getting there ... but i want more metronomic, more classical, less blooze/swing thing going on.

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:18 (nineteen years ago)

i want more like e2-e4 i guess, more like "autobahn".

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:19 (nineteen years ago)

but much much much more MASSIVE than "autobahn" or "e2-e4", something w/ the power and glory of early tangerine dream but the awesome bouncy sequences of "hot on the heels of love" or "autobahn".

you know, like "zoetrope".

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:20 (nineteen years ago)

i thinki i want something like an electro-pop version of popul vuh

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:20 (nineteen years ago)

Cluster - Zuckerzeit?

More Tongue Feldman (noodle vague), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:34 (nineteen years ago)

more ... classical, spacious, synthy, 80s sounding. less folky, homemade.

maybe i want something like fc kahuna's "hayling", w/o the beats.

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:46 (nineteen years ago)

seriously i want something that sounds like trance w/o the beats.

tomita? kitaro? mike oldfield?

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:50 (nineteen years ago)

jean michael jarre? 80s schulze?

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:51 (nineteen years ago)

rainer bloss??

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:54 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, probably i want "oxygene" - last time i heard it in full was 10 years ago, when my hippie high school biology teacher (her name was ISLA) made us listen to it at full blast during a lab about oxygen. she wore tie-dye everyday.

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

ok going to sleep now, by the time i wake up fezaffe will have redeemeed hisself by posting 70s electronic moog tracks that sound like the infernal machine remix of "lifeformation" by epsilon 9

the fuckablity of late picasso (vahid), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

have you heard that 'tubular bells' cover off the supreme edits thing?

finest quality internets beef (haitch), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

this ABSOLUTELY SHITTY pop-trance garbage that ferzarffe made me buy

The Field: Action
Galaktlan: Zolushka
• uhh maybe parts of Pete Namlook: Air? or Dr. Atmo and Oliver Lieb: Music To Films? or a Pop Ambient comp or two?

ferzaffe (flezaffe), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

ferzaffe what do you think of the andrea bertolini rmx of david amo & julio navas pres paco maroto's 'electronic electro'?

i heard it out at an afterparty yesterday, but its kind of got mangled up with the new eulberg, in my brain

-- (688), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

vahid, did you download this wolfgang duren record? "904" might fit the bill here?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

gareth, i havent been out in weeks (except for pollerwiesen once) because of work and also because my two favourite clubs are closed for summer. im hopelessly out of touch!

ferzaffe (flezaffe), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

eyeless dreams is great! although i think that those mp3s are a little screwy. 904 is twice as long as it says it is but when i copy it it's a totally different song!

lf (lfam), Monday, 17 July 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

does anybody know a good binary editor for working with mp3 metadata?

lf (lfam), Monday, 17 July 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i noticed that about a few of the tracks, not just 904.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

i will burn it to cd-rw and rip it

lf (lfam), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

that didn't work, whatevs

lf (lfam), Monday, 17 July 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

hey vahid if you need any uh help hunting down tropicalia stuff email me

Internet casino gambling online (eman), Monday, 17 July 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

maybe some of vol. 2 as well

^ too dark!

ferzaffe (flezaffe), Monday, 17 July 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

I listened to Klaus Schule's Are You Sequenced the other day. New Age of Earth is good too

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Monday, 17 July 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

boc = roedelius w/ shitty triphop beats anyway ;O}

Internet casino gambling online (eman), Monday, 17 July 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

>boc = roedelius w/ shitty triphop beats anyway ;O}

otm

roedelius primer: selbstportrait I, selbstportrait II, selbstportrait III (sinewave organ into delay and occasional muted rhythmbox), durch die wuste (full production conny plank kosmische), jardin au fou (peter baumann produced, roedelius saved all his good tunes for this record instead of using them for 'grosses wasser')

as well as all the other albums he did for sky records 1978-1982, some of it's kind of braindead silly but it's the good kind of braindead, the guy is smiling

milton parker (Jon L), Monday, 17 July 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

Mein Freund Farouk = the exact same track as Zoetrope

ferzaffe (flezaffe), Monday, 17 July 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

weird reading this. just bought Jarre's Oxygene off the street yesterday for a buck. also a Nasciamento recording, havent had a chance to listen to either.

have you heard that 'tubular bells' cover off the supreme edits thing?

you have any more info on this?

fongoloid sangfroid (sanskrit), Monday, 17 July 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

you should totally get franco battiato - fetus, which is about as pop as he gets and has gorgeous ringing synths on top of sparkly tunes.

fauxhemian (fauxhemian), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

i was gonna post the wolfgang duren link, but jed beat me to it.

i've been totally into this stuff lately also. jean michel jarre is yr man. get Equinoxe, Oxygène & Les Concerts En Chine. they're all a buck in the new age section. actually, just start buying any things in the new age section that are from 78-83 and have a buncha synths on them.

i really love the Richard Wahnfried (Klaus Schulze & Arthur Brown) record.

the Tyndall record is kinda cool. there's a track of theirs at http://www.lovefingers.org/

MUCHO MACHO (jaxon), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

also Bo Hansson

MUCHO MACHO (jaxon), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

Like "Zoetrope": Ashra's Blackouts?
--noodle vague

shit is CRUCIAL. maybe ... better than e2-e4???

JABBA JABBA!! NIB NIB!! (vahid), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

BTW fezaffe i had a turnaround on the holden mix!! i love about ... half of it, and the other half is really great!!

i feel like maybe they could have linked the 2nd half of disc 1 w/ the 1st half of disc 2 and made a super-killer one disc mix.

JABBA JABBA!! NIB NIB!! (vahid), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 02:15 (nineteen years ago)

i've never heard e2-e4, but blackouts is pretty great

boc beats are too wooden and heavy

ha its true

Lmaoborghini (eman), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 02:20 (nineteen years ago)

nah, this is nowhere near as good as E2-E4. still great, of course.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 27 July 2006 00:04 (nineteen years ago)

http://theunknownfiles.blogspot.com/ half good new age, half bad new age. but some really good cosmic shit from the early 80s and back.

Mike Hooter (jaxon), Thursday, 27 July 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

Richard Dawson's work under this pseudonym is not far from the classic '70s Komische drone groups, there are certainly elements of Tangerine Dream in the glittering pulses of Seal-Skin Satellite.

In 1971, the bands Tangerine Dream and Faust used electronic synthesizers and advanced production techniques to make what they called komische musik.

does everybody here know what "zoetrope" sounds like? because i'm hearing a bunch of suggestions that don't.

here's another suggestion that doesn't ;)

GÖTT DAT SCHING (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 18 May 2009 01:18 (seventeen years ago)

There is an awesome atom heart track called "smoothness above all else" on the machine paisley album

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 18 May 2009 05:37 (seventeen years ago)

four years pass...

this is brilliant for anyone wanting more of that 70s tangerine dream, analogue synth excess.

3rd track in this set is 13 minutes of perfection

https://soundcloud.com/higamoshogamos/sets/spacerocks-more-modulations

i have been given permission to post individual mp3s on my blog, but thought i'd pass on details here so see if this hits the spot for anyone else

note : spacerocks = steve from fort lauderdale/the black neon, bands which saw steve revive his love of glam amongst his love of old analogue sounds, whereas he has dropped the vocals totally for this new stuff.

mark e, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 10:31 (twelve years ago)

oh and i know this may not be the exactly the right thread but steve used this phrase in his communication :

perhaps sate your desire for Kosmische escape some damp Febuaray afternoon.

..
