Hey, I met you at the Gossip show and talked to you afterward while you were hula hooping. You had on suspenders and white shoes and I tried to convince you to come to the new gay bar afterward, Fun, and you said you would be there. I thought I would be able to talk to you more there, but either you didn't come or I never ran into you. Obviously, I liked you and would like to hang out with you again. You seem like a really rad person and you should contact me, k?

I'm playing with Begushkin in Williamsburg this Saturday, but I don't know where it is.

Begushkin is the solo project of Dan Smith, a dude who played in Will Oldham's band on a couple tours. It's good - it's got some similarities to Oldham but it's also darker and creepier.

No Neck Blues Band are a legendary cooperative improv / psych troupe based out of Harlem whose members remain anonymous but have been playing together with roughly the same lineup since the early 90s. Currently signed to 5 Rue Christine records - NNCK just released a new record "Qvaris" in November.

[ EXCEPTER ]
Four guys who don't really look like they actually hang out together. Records out on 5RC, Load and Fusetron. They describe themselves as "a synthetic protest band engineered to erase cultural distinctions through polarized confusion." Sweet. Lots of synths, electronics, drum boxes, etc. Recently played a great set opening for Animal Collective at Webster Hall and scared the living shît out of a lot of 15 year olds. "Excepter Throne is good for passing out on the beach. It kind of sounds like what a sunset sounds like. It's mostly just moaning into distortion pedals, but it's formlessness is totally gorgeous. They're certainly not the best noise band out there, but their undulating goo is pretty transfixing if you're headed for late-night swims. It's like Margaritaville for people with serious emotional damage." - FoxNews.com (< -- for realz).

looks like i'm gonna go see the sb tuesday, cutty. solly bro, they take precedence (a fave that hasn't played out since forever, and waterhouse is a back-in-the-day bro), tho maybe i can do both. stuck in harlem tonight dogsitting so no watersports. russ, when you guys scheduled to play at superette?

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 11 December 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

Oops, Tuesday is the 13th.

*Jazz Douchebag* Berman (Hurting), Sunday, 11 December 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

you are advertising a competing show on my thread?

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 11 December 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

NITE OWL = MY ROOMMATE JOSH'S BAND.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 11 December 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

No shit. Their bass player Jim is also in Begushkin with me and the guitarist from my "main" band.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Sunday, 11 December 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Cutty! Looks like I'm not the only one though. And it's a shame too, cause I like the Boggs and didn't even know they were still playing. I'd totally go see that otherwise.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Sunday, 11 December 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)

new boggs stuff = rad.

daylight's for the birds = very promising.

holy hail = nice asses.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 11 December 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Ooops.
Sorry.
Bad form.
I barely read the thread before posting on it...thought it was a general "come see my band play" type thread.

Joel - I think we're playing last, after PG Six.
maybe 5pm ?

Russell (Russell), Sunday, 11 December 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

i was kidding.

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 11 December 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

i think your singer was sitting next to me today at kate's joint. but then again i think all white girls look alike.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 12 December 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

hi cutty i think i will be at yr show. psyched!

lauren tell me more about new boggs! i hear they've gone talking heads?

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Monday, 12 December 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, not them too.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Monday, 12 December 2005 06:17 (twenty years ago)

(mp3s?)

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Monday, 12 December 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

jams & a.b. - there are new boggs tracks on their myspace page.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I hate it when bands are described as being in the vein of Talking Heads when they don't have 1/10 the wit and humor.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

so quit music

detoxyDancer (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

I hate it when bands are described as being in the vein of Talking Heads because I hate Talking Heads.

I'll quit music, pretty soon.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

i have no idea where the talking heads thing came from and i would agree that it's totally misleading, but for me that's a plus as out of all of the bands that i used to worship t.h. have probably held up the worst.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

I also find it weird that The Boggs are doing this style now because I always thought their first album cover was a dig at flavor-of-the-month bands (one of them is reading a magazine about The Strokes).

Also, this is terrible copy:

From the debut album We Are The Boggs We Are’s cryptic and bleary-eyed exorcism of early 20th century folk, to the loudly kinetic ferocity of Stitches’ post-apocalyptic urban landscapes, The Boggs have continuously offered a startlingly original picture of the modern world.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

the album cover is a reference to the faces!

i was told the talking heads thing by (namedrop alert) zeke, so i took it as gospel.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

since he said it, it's okay (though misleading).

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

we all know ZEKE!

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

does he not have the most soothing voice ever? if i ever have kids, i want a recording of him to talk me through labor.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

yes but does he have the most juicy butt ever?

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

I DON'T LIKE JUICY BUTTS!

I JUST SAW BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN!

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

flembach, your first statement is a total lie.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

I mean for crissakes, the girl has a juicy butt!

logged 0ut, Wednesday, 14 December 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, let me cancel my show for steely dan party.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:18 (twenty years ago)

I forgot Love Is All is playing. Laurel you have plans on Saturday already.

eatadick.com (Carey), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:19 (twenty years ago)

i did not mean for you to cancel, but will you show after load-out? parties usually go on longer than shows, esp. when we're talking like 8 studio albums.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:19 (twenty years ago)

Not if someone is sick, Carey! Which is the last I heard about it.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:21 (twenty years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Wednesday, 22 March 2006 20:31 (twenty years ago)

I've never been to a bachelorette party before -- I was looking forward to games that involved things being pinned on people's backs. Oh wait, no I wasn't, I just wanted to get fucked up with Ally & Co.

XP: I vote for May!!! Just not the 6th b/c I will be in MI for my sister's wedding shower, which will undoubtedly involve less booze and more agita.

river wolf, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 04:13 (nineteen years ago)

Well, it is lovely around Whitefish, and if you guys come I will put you on the list and get you drunk. But a five hour drive is kinda heavy duty . . . . so I will understand if it's a bridge too far.

Drew Daniel, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 06:49 (nineteen years ago)

At Monkey Town:

Saturday, May 26
Admission: $5, $10 minimum
Doortimes: 7:30 and 10pm
reservations are recommended

Two bands from Locust music:

Begushkin: Big ass psyche rock band playing songs from upcoming LP Nightly Things among others. Takes the time honored American Gothic themes and recasts American, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European folk rock into a witches brew of rock arrangements, resulting in a beautifully disorientating trek through wilderness.

True Primes: the swathes of feedback that scythe through "In the surf" from We have won , the tumbling biscuit tin drums, male and female voices screaming and getting molested by cheap effects pedals, maybe a little Harry Pussy if they slowed the hell down and took the time to really fall apart.

Hurting 2, Friday, 25 May 2007 01:28 (nineteen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

No, we're just opening for Cornelius. I'm stoked to see the "Sensuous" stuff live, I love that album, his stuff is so glassy and *perfect* now that it will be weird to see it done on stage.
