Is Alfonso Soriano gonna have to choke a bitch? Find out! NATIONALS BASEBALL!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

Why is he the one getting sent to the OF and not Vidro, btw? (i'm going to guess the answer is Vidro is better defensively but I don't feel like checking)

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:23 (twenty years ago)

i believe that going by errors or fielding %, soriano is the worst 2nd baseman in the last 50 years. enough of a reason for me.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Hah, have you seen the BP annual's Soriano rip? "watching him go to his left is like watching a wagon train go west in real time ... has the vertical leap of a sumo wrestler"

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Is Jim Bowden gonna be taken back to the woodshed and given the business end of his favorite five tools? Find out! NATIONALS BASEBALL!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:56 (twenty years ago)

i hadn't looked at that, actually...the soriano section, i mean. sorta fish in a barrel, innit?

btw...the latest outrage in our nation's capital is that ryan church was sent to the minors, yet marlon anderson and michael tucker still remain in camp.

man, ha sbowden fucked that team up.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Maybe Soriano should catch.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 20:59 (twenty years ago)

If only he could catch. Or throw. Or take a pitch.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Well, in the battle of the 2Bs, Soriano gets thrown out at the plate, then Vidro (as tying run) gets nailed trying to stretch a single into a double for the FINAL OUT!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 3 April 2006 19:05 (twenty years ago)

although, the duel b/w soriano and reyes ought to be one for the ages.

Cheney to throw out first pitch at Nationals' home opener

April 5, 2006

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals' Major League Baseball home opener next week, the team said Wednesday.

The Nationals' first home game of the season is Tuesday afternoon against the New York Mets.

Since 1910, 12 presidents and four vice presidents have thrown a ceremonial pitch in Washington.

Last year, the capital's first with a baseball team since 1971, President Bush tossed out the first pitch at the home opener. Many fans were late to their seats because security lines at metal detectors -- installed for the president's visit -- were still 20 deep when the game began.

too late

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 19:57 (twenty years ago)

what chu talkin bout, mookie? you got some inside info?

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 20:18 (twenty years ago)

not at all. just that the whole process has taken far too long and too much damage has been done to the ballclub. i don't really care that much about the soriano trade--brad wilkerson sux--but the lack of an owner until now has really set the club back several years.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 20:56 (twenty years ago)

how does brad wilkerson suck?

and i don't think there's been anything done to the club that grown ups can't fix.

frankly, soriano has already far surpassed my expectations. some of the shots he's cranking in rfk are mindblowing. did you see the upper deck shot he hit at shea last night? que barbaridad!

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

If the new owners want to win right away then they're free to throw money into the club. It worked for the Diamondbacks. It might have worked for the Devil Rays if they had spent their late-90's money on something other than washed-up DH-types.

I don't know anything about the Nats minor league system, but that would suffer a lot from the lack of vision of a dedicated GM/owner. But still, smart folx can restock the system in only 3-4 years.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 21:21 (twenty years ago)

BRAD WILKERSON STOP STRIKING OUT YOU DAMNED CHUBBY-CHEEKED KENTUCKIAN. or at least hit more homers or something. actually, i love them getting soriano--but not for one (shitty) year.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 21:26 (twenty years ago)

i can't remember the name of the dude mlb put in charge of development, but he's gotten really good reviews for mitigating the damage done to the system by omar minaya's reign of terror. i mean, sheesh...zimmerman!

re: wilkerson

he seems to be seeing the ball better or his shoulder is getting better, b/c he seems to be driving the ball more and striking out a little less the last week or so.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 21:41 (twenty years ago)

So when do we change this to the 2006 Nationals Commiseration thread?

I spend the money for extra innings, and now i am treated to an 11-2 game?

I go to Shea and think things are turning around. Bah!

I'll still watch the next 140+ games out of stubborness. Also, because Daryle is such a cool name.

burna (burna), Thursday, 4 May 2006 23:57 (twenty years ago)

also the nats have cornered the market on mlb marlons...present tense and historically.
