My dad and I didn't see the start of it since there was a fight going on in the row behind us... The best detail was Pedro Borbon ripping into a Mets cap with his teeth.

Also saw one at the Coney Island park two summers ago that went on for about 20 minutes, complete with a visiting player nearly charging a heckler in the stands.

The funniest one I've seen on TV was the Boston guy -- Izzy Alcantara? -- taking out the catcher with a rear kick before charging the mound.

Situation: CR Kernels up early on the Battle Creek Yankees, some dude comes to bat for the Kernels who's already hit a monster home run. He lays into another pitch and hits it a mile down the LF line. From our seats on the 3B line this ball is clearly foul, but the ump rules it a HR, much to the stadium's bewilderment.

Before the HR call is made the batter takes a casual stroll down the 1B line watching the ball. Presumably he thinks it's foul like everyone else, but the Yankees manager thought he was showing up the dugout by admiring his second HR. So they plunk him the next time he comes to bat. The Kernels respond by throwing behind the first batter in the top half of the next inning. It took several seconds for the batter to realize that he was the subject of retaliation, so there were some confused moments as he stood around the batter's box thinking about the next pitch while his teammates gathered outside the dugout waiting for him to charge the mound and make it OK to officially clear the benches. Kernels come out of their dugout, there's some milling around near home plate and the pitcher is ejected. Warnings, etc.

A new pitcher gets warmed up in the pen and comes out to finish this AB. In what I think was a totally unintentional act, he beans the same batter with his first pitch. Tempers really flare, the benches empty again (the crowd is going nuts, myself included, at this point), and it takes a long time to restore order. Surprisingly, no punches were thrown. Pitcher and managers ejected, game resumes and the Yankees are sent home losers.

Fun at the ol' ballpark, to be sure.

i can't remember the specifics of my favorite brawl moment. it was the sox vs. ??? and the sox pitcher (???) hit someone on the other team (at this point i'm thinking it was either the blue jays or tigers). said batter charged the mound. i was watching the game on tv enjoying a smoke and remembered thinking "this guy (the pitcher) is gonna get f'ed up". the batter came straight towards the mound when out of nowhere (well, actually from his position at first base) a young and still fleet-footed mo vaughn comes shooting over and slams into the batter hitting him so hard that both were knocked out of the picture frame. the replays showed mo had perfect form on the tackle, head up, ass down, put his shoulder to the guy's gut then lift, drive and drop. good times.

There's a new book on the '86 Mets called "The Bad Guys Win!" Quite unrelenting on showing the drink/drug/fight stuff. I read a chapter on Doc and Strawberry.

The best recent beating was administered last year to Paul Wilson (hehe) by Kyle (MANSTUD) Farnsworth...

Did anybody see that bit on Conan a while back where he was out talking to a group of guys who did re-enactments of turn-of-the-century baseball games? Conan suited up (complete with a fake handlebar moustache) to take some cuts and was talking trash at the pitcher in that same type of vernacular. The pitcher threw one high and tight and Conan charged the mound, paused to roll his sleeves up, and then took on a bare-knuckles boxer pose. I laughed my ass off.

i also remember claudell washington going into the stands at fenway but that was because he didn't realize how close to the wall in right he was. it resulted in the slowest inside the park home run i've ever seen. bill buckner looked like the tin man rounding the bases. i swear he had no knee cartilege left, you could almost hear the bone on bone grinding as he chugged around third.

Also, I thought the pitch hit Senora A-Rod (oh snap!) on the elbow. Regardless, that was a strange time for "the best player in baseball" to Cowboy Up to the original Marlboro Men. Also, I've never heard of a team headhunting a player for hitting the game-winning SINGLE in the previous contest. Unless Bob Brenley was the manager.

first of all, the best player in baseball tag is 75% agent hype from his free agency period after the 2000 season, a season in which he really WAS the best player in baseball. the tag stuck because in every year since he's been the best player in the american league, and the best all-around player in the game. even if he IS past his prime, you have to a allow a window for that perception to fade (especially now that he's a yankee(?)). and i'd still say he's probably the best all-around player in the game. And it's possible this bullshit was carried over from HBP exchanges of the previous series.

There, Castellanos got punched, by his count, five times, including once from Gary Sanchez, whose sucker-punch game seems to match his power game.
