I'm sorry if we already have this thread, but I didn't find anything searching "swimsuit*" OR "bathing suit*", so...

I'm really into the idea of maillot one-piece suits with side cut-outs that cover the stomach but go really low in the back and sides, but they're never quite right and/or they're made for thin people and don't have enough fabric. The search continues.

I def want to find a plunging neckline suit this year though--I've been thinking that since LAST year but I have 3 vintagey suits already and they weren't quite worn out yet. Now 2 of them are just about rags. Maybe by July, something I like will be on sale.

A few years ago I fell in love with a maillot that had, like, decorative macrame/knotwork hammock between the top and bottom that was kind of hour-glass shaped. I can't remember who made it but it was expensive and I never found a good knock-off but it started me thinking.

Love this one, but again: no more high backs! Also it's over $400.

Stella McCartney, $370

I mean I am not a huge fan of modcloth but it's like, the alternatives are so out of reach and the affordable styles are homogeneously awful/boring.

When I say I'm not a huge fan, I just mean because the styles tend to be so youthful! Sometimes I want to look like a sophisticated almost-40-year-old who has options, is all. Although I just saw this one: well played, modcloth:

swimsuits are the only thing that i don't wear in black! maybe its cause i wear black every day, but when i got to the beach im always in like, a hot pink bikini

I like it! You have to change things up. I can't imagine actually wearing a black swimsuit because you're in the blazing sun, for pete's sake, but I like how they look.

I have a dream of being the kind of woman who drives to the beach (or is driven) and wears a big straw hat and nice sandals and carries a tote bag and/or cool drink, instead of the person who biked there and is sweaty and sticky from sunblock and road dust and has gross sneakers on and might have heatstroke.
