And yes before anyone complains we can change the title, we just needed something for now.

Deadline November 30th, no limitations, originals, covers, whatever. MP3, AIFF, WAV, whatever format is best (I use Apple, FWIW), file size not an issue. E-mail files or links to me at ned at kuci dot org when you're done. We'll need cover art as always. Post if you're in.

ms. c flat (get bent), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:40 (twelve years ago) link

i'll probably do something. i'm apparently committing to every ilx music project these days. i kind of want to try to make the most depressing christmas song i can.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:46 (twelve years ago) link

maybe i should promise to do "cherry tree carol" so i can force myself to do something
i loathe christmas music but i love that song
and it would force me to try
and i know the song

i am going to regret this (and may need help) but can i claim that song til further notice?

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:47 (twelve years ago) link

it's only october after all

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:48 (twelve years ago) link

i think we should get the entire CHILX massive together to do something, "we are the world"-style.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:49 (twelve years ago) link

oh shit we can do "do they know it's christmas" or whatever that bullshit's called

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:50 (twelve years ago) link

One of my college roommates was very talented musically, sang in a barbershop quartet, etc. He was good at transposing songs into other keys, and one afternoon he had us all on the floor laughing/crying by singing carols as minor-key dirges.

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

my fantasy is that we all get together, have a party, get drunk, then each pick a celebrity who sang on "do they know its christmas" and try to do an imitation of that celebrity singing their line.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

i'll do one

sarahel, Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

maybe the 12 whatevers of SuggestBanmas

sarahel, Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:57 (twelve years ago) link

Okay, edited thread title/first message for more specific information, so gear up etc.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:59 (twelve years ago) link

i am going to regret this (and may need help) but can i claim that song til further notice?

Sure, but as noted, no limitations -- if people want to do their own take on that, feel free. I figure people should post what you want to do when you've figured out the song and I'll keep a running list. And remember, do originals too if you want! No reason not to!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

Ok, tbh I'm already regretting posting that, so we'll see if I can manage to get anything at all done by Nov. 15

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

Huh. Seems weird. Oh well, I did say no limitations so hey.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:19 (twelve years ago) link

well if it's too weird/crepey, i will do something else and let the 9 whiney's whining be merely a figment of my imagination.

sarahel, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:20 (twelve years ago) link

I'm in too, I welched on the last one mainly because I was getting hitched and had no real time but I'd love to do an Xmas song of some description.

It did get released, an ILX outage meant it was finished off on the sandbox.

I actually had to clear the comp from my account so I could put up the Centipede Hz one! (Using only a free account, you see.) I'll reupload the whole thing later in the year once we figure out what else is on it.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 19:47 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, the Ze records christmas album got revised the following christmas.

DJP - Coventry Carol Ladies
Tom D - On the Occasion of the Release of John Maclean from Peterhead Prison and His Return to Glasgow on December 3rd, 1918 (O Tannenbaum)
Grannykart - Sinterklass
Mark Grout - Xmas Trees
The Transients - Please Don't Tell My Baby
Snoball - It's Christmas Time
Bernard Snowy - single best christmas
Elf With Wound - Fissions of Sugarplums
Mark Grout and Friend - All I Want For Christmas is LouLou
The Dead Kittendys - Holiday in Catbodia

And what I'd like to do is create the expanded edition if anyone's so inclined. Short notice at this point but have at it!

Deadline December 7th, no limitations, originals, covers, whatever. MP3, AIFF, WAV, whatever format is best (I use Apple, FWIW), file size not an issue. E-mail files or links to me at ned at kuci dot org when you're done. We'll need cover art as always, especially to replace the crappy thing I did last year when nobody volunteered. Post if you're in.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:14 (eleven years ago) link

I'm in, wanted to do this last year. I had some spare time today and made a stupidly jaunty thing with duelling music box and cheap 60's organ, and lot's of sleigh bells, will send when mixed.

As there a list of which ILMers were responsible for each track? Most have band names attached to them. I looked above but didn't find it, but let me know if I just missed it.

Listening Elf With Wound right now. A+

Hey Tom D, gotta say that BOTH of your tracks are great by the way. Song title for the first one is amazing. Fahey reference, correct?

Sad that I did not submit to this, I actually just recorded a Christmas thing for something here in Virginia, but I also think I imagined that this comp was going to be more jokey for some reason. What I recorded may have fit perfectly well.

Hey Ned, I sent you a recording last year that was a little too late. Is it eligible for the re-boot? I do not have a great recording set up right now, so that would be my best contribution. I can resend of course.

grandavis, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 17:24 (ten years ago) link

Alright Ned, will do.

Tom D., I do not even have a personal computer right now, just my work computer, so "not great" could have been substituted for non-existent. I am not happy about it, but perhaps Chrismtmas this year will bring some new toys ....

Do you record other stuff?
