I pulled out "Everything Picture" again and I have to say it holds up pretty well in my book (the 40 minute title track is still pretty absurd though). I'm going to guess l0u1s jagg3r was a fan.

Also it's not a 30 or 40 minute closing track, it's a 22-minute closing track with a load of silence then a secret track at the end. And it's ace.

To myself, I call the section from about 5:30 to 7:30 "The Great Gig In The Galaxy".

ULTRASOUND (special one-off re-union show)- When Tim Smith of the Cardiacs suffered (ironically) a heart attack, Ultrasound were asked to reform for a benefit concert to raise money for him, and of course they couldn’t refuse, so at the start of the new decade, the 5 members of Ultrasound met, and with 4 clicks of the sticks, arrived back home. With this a decision was made to reform - currently rehearsing and writing material for a new album. This marks a sneak preview of material classic and new for the cult Rough Trade band - former media darlings, fan faves and legendary characters.

one I saw was pretty good and they closed with an excellent new song, 'sovereign heart'

i gotta say my favourite post-ultrasound thing is the minuteman album. in fact some days i prefer it to everything picture

apparently there's a new ultrasound single 'welfare state' out at the end of next month

Excellent comeback single from these guys. The lyrics are really great and kind of honest.

They never topped Kurt Russel for me, maybe my favourite B-side of all time.

yeah that was their highpoint for sure. i pretty much loved everything they did up to the album, which i still feel would have been vastly improved by chopping off the, uh, long piece

my cd player came with a special button that let you stop listening when the long piece started if u couldn't handle it

Was there a single disc version of the album incidentally?

it's the last track on the 2nd CD of a nouveau prog record released in an era when record companies wd stick a free pair of jesus' testes on a bonus disc if they thought it wd help shift a few copies, i don't think of it as a major flaw tbh

welp anyway i coincidentally have my copy here in front of me and save for 'aire & calder' i don't remember how any of the non-single tracks go. so perhaps i'm being unfair

Okay so "Welfare State" is pretty hilair.

I don't remember there being a single disc version of Everything Picture. I always liked the album but I was expecting so much more. I've no idea why Fame Thing was on there and Kurt Russell wasn't.

A few years later I made my own version of the album which I play a lot more these days.

Yeah the new single is kind of ridiculous but really great. Hope they do more live shows this year, I saw them last November and it was such a blast.

I read the album is out September 24th on Fierce Panda. It's called Play For Today.

Well then call me a liar, you would anyway.

I only know this as I seem to get constant updates from them after liking them on Facebook. Probably will buy this to be honest.

Saw them last night at the Jericho Tavern in Oxford and they were great....the track electricsound links to above was a particular highlight. Check out the album 'Play for Today'.

really, really regretting my failure to nominate Blue Remembered Hills for the 2016 tracks poll, but then I'd be the only voter so

it's completely glorious though, and worth buying the album just to hear it. probably the best pure prog of the year

i might vote for it if i could work up the strength to put a ballot together. i think i might rate the winstons and universal totem orchestra higher as pure prog, though.

oh? i'll have to check 'em. are they individual tracks or albums?
