This might be the hardest poll ever for me, I love almost all of this equally (although the Damage Done single isn't very good really, is it).

At the moment I am swayed towards Adrenochrome, but a week is a long time.

URGH

baaderonixx, Friday, 18 April 2008 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link

During those years when I catively listened to this, I would have said 'Alice' straight away, now I'm not so sure. I may have overplayed that song

baaderonixx, Friday, 18 April 2008 14:21 (sixteen years ago) link

'Body Electric' sounds tempting

baaderonixx, Friday, 18 April 2008 14:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Not this version. The other Body Electric is way better.

Lights or Heartland for me. Lights, I think.

StanM, Friday, 18 April 2008 14:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I'd vote for the squealy "WELL ALL RIGHT!" from 1969 if I could, but I had to stick with Alice in the end.

BigLurks, Friday, 18 April 2008 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

There are so many wonderful things here. I don't understand why I never really appreciated "Kiss The Carpet" back in the day. "Lights" should be way up there on the totem pole as well. That rhythm is infectious. "Heartland" is emotional to my ears. And trying to keep quiet about the amazing "1969"/"Gimme Shelter" covers...sigh. How can one really choose the best thing off this edifice of gothdam?

Oh okay I will...and no one will agree but it's still "Watch" because of the delicious Jah Wobbly PIL bass. And because I didn't hear it back in the day so it's newer to me.

Stan M: could you please make it clearer which version of Body Electric you are referring to as the "other one"? Thanks.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 19 April 2008 13:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Stan refers to the 1984 single version, I suppose

baaderonixx, Saturday, 19 April 2008 15:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Floorshow. I really must pick up a copy of this.

Soukesian, Saturday, 19 April 2008 15:53 (sixteen years ago) link

"Adrenochrome". This was not an easy choice to make.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 19 April 2008 15:55 (sixteen years ago) link

yea that's a fantastic song I keep forgetting about

baaderonixx, Saturday, 19 April 2008 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link

where is the "Body And Soul" EP? Doesn't that predate Warners also?

sleeve, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Goddmanit Sleeve you are right. I knew there was another one. Oh my god.

Bimble, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought Body and Soul was after the Warner deal but I can't be arsed digging it out to look.

Swaying towards Adrenochrome or Floorshow. Tough poll.

onimo, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Regardless of the Warner thing, I think the Body and Soul EP deserves to be in the "consistently good" section of any Sisters history.

Afterhours.

Bimble is turning into a vampire.

lights.

the body and soul ep is on warners.

stirmonster, Sunday, 20 April 2008 04:28 (sixteen years ago) link

very very difficult. for me came down to "anaconda" and "floorshow" - surprised not to see more love for "anaconda" here, I had the 7" way back and there was something real raw about it. but "floorshow" - that "go go go go go" - that was my fucking jam.

Body Electric is the last Merciful Release EP if I remember - the blue one.

J0hn D., Sunday, 20 April 2008 04:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I listen to this album quite frequently and the one I keep coming back to is "Phantom." Sublime.

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 20 April 2008 05:12 (sixteen years ago) link

"Valentine" comes to mind for me at the most random times. Something about that ending.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 20 April 2008 05:16 (sixteen years ago) link

HOWEVER - the other day I cranked "Valentine" up for the first time in forever and it took me completely by surprise.

I think my favorite works by Eldritch & co. are the dubbed-out drony things - Marian, Phantom, Valentine, Never Land, Flood I, Colours (esp. the Sisterhood version), etc.

xpost!

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 20 April 2008 05:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Stirmonster saves the day!

Seriously though there's one track on this that I kept thinking was a harbinger of the Sisterhood EP. I'm not sure which one it was, now. I'll figure it out eventually.

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 20 April 2008 05:24 (sixteen years ago) link

Also crutis OTM re: Phantom

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 20 April 2008 05:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Baaderonixx OTM: I did indeed mean the 1984 Body & Soul EP version of Body Electric. And do look for the "Some Boys Wander By Mistake" bootleg compilation, it's the missing twin to this one. (Poison Door! Bury Me Deep!)

"afterhours"?

stirmonster, Sunday, 20 April 2008 07:07 (sixteen years ago) link

I can understand why it would have been Afterhours, but...I don't think that was it.

Anyway...
BURY ME DEEP

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

i made a 80's compilation for my other music board so i dug this out. the song that i ended up picking was "Alice" when i first thought it was going to be "Temple Of Love." so "Alice" is my vote as it worked very well as the third song.

What else was on your comp? (if you don't mind me asking)

onimo, Thursday, 24 April 2008 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

"Heartland" or "Body Electric".

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 24 April 2008 22:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I ended up going with Adrenochrome.

onimo, Thursday, 24 April 2008 22:30 (sixteen years ago) link

What else was on your comp? (if you don't mind me asking)

I still believe in God, but god no longer believes in me:

War- Tones On Tail (from Night Music)
Silent Hedges - Bauhaus (from The Sky's Gone Out)
Alice - The Sisters Of Mercy (from Some Girls Wander By Mistake)
Upstairs - Gene Loves Jezebel (from Promise)
Glass - Joy Division (from Still)
Road To Your Soul - All About Eve (from Scarlet and Other Stories)
Mad World - Tears For Fears (from The Hurting)
Blood Brother - The Mission UK (from Gods Own Medicine)
Rain - The Cult (from Love)
A Day - Clan Of Xymox (from Xymox)
A Mirage - The Essence (not the Cure - (from A Monument Of Trust)
Babble - The Cure (from the Lullaby single-B-side)
Feel So Good - Spacemen 3 (from Taking Drugs To Make Music To Takes Drugs To)
Christine - House Of Love (from The House Of Love)
Emptiness Inside- My Bloody Valentine (from the Feed Me With Your Kiss single-B-side)

it's a Goth comp that turned into shoegaze.

Bee OK, Thursday, 24 April 2008 23:31 (sixteen years ago) link

^ I would listen to all of this comp

onimo, Friday, 25 April 2008 11:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Wish I'd went for Floorshow now to bump it into top 3 and have Alice & Adrenochrome tie.

onimo, Friday, 25 April 2008 11:17 (sixteen years ago) link

i need to listen to "Adrenochrome" again, what single is that song from?

Bee OK, Saturday, 26 April 2008 04:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I voted for "Phantom"!!!!!

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 26 April 2008 07:52 (sixteen years ago) link

damn, it seems I forgot to vote.

baaderonixx, Saturday, 26 April 2008 09:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks for the link Bee OK, I'll grab a copy tonight.

Adrenochrome was the B-side of the original Body Electric 7" single in 1982.

i like the Warner stuff better (challenging opinion!).

I can see why but this is still RONG.

I am not sure if I voted in this but it would have been "Alice" vs "Gimme Shelter" for me.

nine years pass...

I have been going through these eps for the first time this week and lo and behold it's Andrew Eldritch's 60th birthday today.

I turned in my Goth card when I sold all my Sisters albums this year. They hadn't done anything for me in ages. Still like the odd track but the material never really compelled me to listen to it.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 15 May 2019 16:56 (four years ago) link

I would have voted for 'Alice', which is still a stone cold classic IMO.
