That floyd clip isn't from the Beat Club. I have the whole thing, it was some BBC show and done in a studio. It follows a hilarious interview where some stodgy music critic says "why does it have to be so loud?" I'm sure the whole thing is up somewhere. I got it on one of those bootlegs you can buy at Kims.

This is the Floyd shit I couldn't believe:

wow that sandy denny clip is mazing

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 23 March 2006 08:37 (twenty years ago)

Sandy Denny clip doesn't actually fit the thread IN THE SLIGHTEST, but is cool enough that I'm not actually complaining. I doubt that the "Jugband Blues" clip is THAT close to the end, 'cause the Floyd are a four-piece in it, right?

Last nit-pick: maybe someone better versed in Japsych than I am can school me, but is that really Fushitsusha, or a different Haino project? I don't know F as a guitar-bass duo, and the piece they're playing strikes me as pretty foursquare and blues-based.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 23 March 2006 12:44 (twenty years ago)

i'm pretty sure it's fushitsusha, who were a gtr-bass-drum power trio up till abt 3-4 years ago - they quite often ended their sets w/ a short, 'punkish' rave-up (check the 'Sable' alb on Victo for example)

but it cld be some other haino group

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 23 March 2006 12:51 (twenty years ago)

Saw Fushitsusha at Le Weekend in Stirling - was it three years ago? Anyway, it was certainly just Haino & bass player at that point.

Soukesian, Thursday, 23 March 2006 13:25 (twenty years ago)

there was at least one bass+drums fushitsusha album. it was pretty dreadful.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 16 April 2006 04:14 (twenty years ago)

No, I haven't heard it. You know what's an awesome early Sundazed release that you never see anyone talk about? Things to Come (CD comp is called I Want Out) - GREAT L.A. R&B group.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 16 April 2006 05:49 (twenty years ago)

I love that Vejtables comp! years ago on the street in philly i bought a copy for a dollar (along with the fapardokly cd) and it has been a fave of mine ever since. i never go too long without playing it. traded the fapardokly in ages ago though. maybe i shouldn't have. i might like some of it more now.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 16 April 2006 10:58 (twenty years ago)

Who is doing the lead vocal on the Vejtables clip? You see people take bits of backing vocal, but it goes all the way through, and nobody seem to be doing it! Thought the big guy who didn't seem to know what to do with his hands had forgotten to mime, but then he pulls out his harmonica and starts in, and the voice just keeps on going!

Great clip, though, perhaps even more so because of this!

Uncle Floyd was shot in my hometown, West Orange, NJ. Note the sponsor record store...Crazy Rhythms (which was in Montclair). R. Stevie Moore worked there.

Glad to see that Pussy Galore clip anyway as it's another piece in the "what are those clips in the video to Teenage Riot" puzzle.

I don't know if any of you folks are gonna find yrselves in Austin this July, but the Alamo Drafthouse will be doing a Peter Whitehead series. For me, the highlight will be "Pop Films", a 2 hour program of promo films taken from his archives, including clips of the Rolling Stones, Nico, Small Faces, PP Arnold & 30 MINUTES OF SYD BARRETT-ERA PINK FLOYD FOOTAGE! A friend properly discribed this program as "Youtube Platinum".

In case anyone was wondering about it, I actually made it up to the Alamo in Austin to see the Peter Whitehead Pop Films show this past weekend. The biggest surprise was that the promised & advertised Barrett/Pink Floyd footage was not shown. My wild guess is it may be in legal limbo thanks to Syd's untimely death. However, in it's place was the unannounced surprise presentation of Whitehead's unreleased Rolling Stones tour doc "Charlie Is My Darling." Since it and the other clips come directly from his archives, they are the best quality out there. Despite some rough patches, the whole presentation is essential viewing for fans of 60s British rock. Hopefully it will tour or be released commercially.

Here are a few clips featured in the show that people have uploaded to Youtube:

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 29 September 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

Those Bryds clips were from '72, right before that line-up broke up. There's some cheapie legit dvd floating around that's got a lot of 70s Beat Club stuff on it, including those Byrds airshots.
