OK, I gave it a listen... sounded fine to me, but I'm not quite sure I see what's so transcendent about it. Could somebody please extrapolate on what makes this so special? (And that's not me being snotty, that's me being honestly curious)

I'm with Jeff, here (though I haven't heard the new one: going on Godlike Snake and Lucifer Songs). Lots of the right moves and tones, but there's something missing, or something I'm not quite catching. Normally, I'm a sucker for the boiling psychedelic wormhole thing, but Ufomammut come across as more studied than transcendent. Like Yob, but nowhere near as good.

Yeah, I don't really think "transcendence" is so much the game here as just some nice solid brick wall riffing, with some math-y psych-y elements. I shall definitely check out this Yob you speak of.

I also just want to declare that this kind of music should ALWAYS be listened to on cranked speakers and NEVER on headphones. Honestly this didn't start to leave much of any impression until I listened to it on speakers.

Shame the vinyl is so expensive on their label, im sure its worth it for the awesome artwork(i do have a morkobot vinyl), but 50 euros for 1 new lp is a bit much.

The Italian art collective MALLEUS, known worldwide for their striking poster designs and screen printing magic, will be returning to San Francisco this month alongside Alan Forbes, Firehouse (Chuck Sperry and Ron Dnovan) and countless more international artists, under the tour banner Dark Nouveau, a return to the roots of poster creation. Dark Nouveau evokes equally the fin de siècle style of Toulouse-Lautrec and 1960’s San Francisco Psychedelia. It operates as a manifesto of reinvention and revision, aimed at connecting to the poster movement of the Decadent Period to the Belle Epoque and folding it into the Psychedelic Period to the present modern global silkscreen movement. I'm so jealous! I might have to go to Baltimore Death Fest next year just to see them. My favorite current metal band.

And I'll echo Marco's recommendations of Lucifer Songs and Idolum, but if you like those be prepared that you'll want everything else, including their album with Lento, Supernaturals Record One.

Lento are quite good too: more or less from the same "scene", there are also Edible Woman, who play this quirky, organ-led hardcore punk. Heavy but somehow poppy.

Haven't heard of Edible Woman - will check out ASAP.

Their new album, recorded by Lorenzo from Lento, is their best: should be out in a couple of months. Less mathy, more spacey, with better songs, not afraid to sound poppier.

Cool. I'll keep an eye out - the stuff on their MySpace page was interesting.

I've been a fan since the demo. Wish these shows hadn't been announced on such short notice. Gonna try to add them to Fall Into Darkness 10/29-31 in Portland if they're available...

Amen. If they never disappoint, does that mean I should get Godlike Snake and Lucifer Songs? I have MP3s of Snailking, love it. Even though it's OOP on CD (available on double vinyl) and sells for $130 on up, I think I found a copy at HBDirect, which normally specializes in classical. Crossing my fingers that it's not a mistake and they really do have it. If anyone has lossless files of the totally unavailable Godlike Snake, PM me and I'll trade for it!

Godlike Snake is the only one I haven't been able to find a physical copy of - I have some high quality mp3s, but it's not the same thing. If you like the other stuff definitely get Lucifer Songs, as it smokes too. The cd version I have came with a cool copy of of the video backgrounds they used on that tour - super trippy stuff like this:

I found what I was looking for here -- Godlike Snake in lossless, supposedly a 2006 remaster, and other stuff... If any of you partake in the stuff that isn't OOP, at least buy the new one!

Heard it last night, love it. I pre-ordered it so hope to get the CD by mid-next week. Tempted to see them at Hellfest in France. They'll probably come back to the U.S. this summer/fall.

Damn it, they played near me last week and i missed it. How good are they live?

The reactions I read to their performances at Roadburn and Desertfest Germany were so enthusiastic I almost considered dropping $1,600 for flight, ticket and other travel expenses to see them at Hellfest on June 16th with Unsane, YOB, The Devil's Blood and Saint Vitus. Go to Hellfest site, there are buses coming from pretty much everywhere in Europe for a good price.

How do you pronounce this band's name? I've been saying U.F.O.-mammut - which I think is wrong.

Oh shit, they did? Had no idea! Do you know where you can get them? Looks like Aquarius only has Lucifer Songs and they aren't turning up in some of my other usual haunts.

Finally heard the new one. It's great! Sounds really different from Snailking, which is the only other one I have.

You are going to have fun filling in the blanks! All the records between Snailking and the new double ORO are good to great. If you like what they do there's not a dud in the catalog.

Yeah, they've been to the US a couple of times now.

They tour Europe all the time. They came to the States once or twice about a decade ago; at least that's what Ned and Nate tell me when they want me to be jealous. I have hopes that they might tour here again now that they have a stable record deal.

I'm so glad you like them. One of my favorite bands of the past decade.

I'm digging Opus: Alter, but I didn't like Opus: Primum much. Go figure.

It's really one piece and works best that way. Back to back strengthens Primum a lot. I do think Alter is stronger, but some of that comes from completing musical themes began on Primum.

The combination of the two is fantastic and going to reach pretty high on my year-end list. I had a long flight back from California last week which finally gave me the opportunity to play them back to back, loud. It was fantastic.

I did listen to them together in order, but I wasn't grabbed till the Alter songs. Primum for me was just too samey; Alter is more dynamic in contrast, and more interesting to my ears.

They do like the ladies in their art. Not always naked, but others have them licking planets and kissing skeletons. The one art print I have, Vamp, is a tribute to Theda Bara, one of their more tasteful renderings, though when the lights go off she too turns to a skeleton!
